Protip: the actual gameplay of Mass Effect games is bland and generic third person cover shooting that already wore out its welcome a decade ago. People play Mass Effect for the story, characters, etc. So when your writing is this terrible and the characters all look like shit and don't even animate properly, you're stuck between a rock and a hard place. It wouldn't matter if this were a game where the characters and role-playing were incidental, and you only cared about the gameplay. But that's not how Mass Effect is. If the characters aren't likeable, the dialogue isn't passable, and the character animations are cringe-inducing, it doesn't work whatsoever.

Shit, I thought ME3 was abhorrent. But this takes the cake.

IGN will give it a high score guaranteed, they had that entire "IGN first" deal with EA. I don't think Gamespot, Giant Bomb and Rock Paper Shotgun will be as nice to the game. From their previews it looks like they think the game is mediocre, so expect a 7 or 8/10.

The best thing is that when this gets smashed by critics, it will completely legitimize the BOTW reviews and cement it as GOAT. Very excited for that.

I don't think it will get smashed, I think it will get the same exact reception that Destiny got, an alright but quite mediocre game that doesn't live up to it's predecessors. Just like Destiny it might sell really fucking well, or it might become another Dragon Age 2, which didn't sell well at all. I don't think it will win any GOTY awards.

i didn't really like the more action oriented combat, but it wasn't that bad.

me3 just took all of this to a different level though and ruined most of it.

No, DA2 was interesting, every single big publication praised it when it came out and gave it 9s and 10s. Then they completley forgot about it and never mentioned it again. The game had lackluster sales and a year later when EA wanted to release a GOTY edition retailers said no because of a lack of consumer interests. I remember that just a month or two after the game came out they sold it for half the original price in most retail stores. The game didn't win any GOTY awards from what I can remember and was quickly forgotten by the media.

7 sounds about right the MP is still good, and gameplay is fun tho cover system is not good.

ME2 is an interesting case. It's basically the inflection point that marks bioware jumping the shark. Things before it were good. Things after it were absolutely shit-tier. But ME2 itself is somewhere between the two. There are arguments to be made from either side. It's dumbed-down and casualized, but it still manages to be exciting and captivating for some reason. I personally like the game, even though I recognize that it's dumbed-down and the main plot is complete bullshit.
