I tried to like the Gears series. Halo was decent but too short. Ratchet and Clank is the only western game I truly enjoy as an entire series.

There might be frustrating aspects to Japanese games, but you can tell there's something meaningful and fun in the gameplay.
Western games usually try to be as user friendly and as least frustrating as possible, but it leads to most games turning out generic and similar to every other game in the genre. I think even saying "polished" is being generous now though after the whole Andromeda thing.

Big budget japanese games tend to be better than big budget western games, but there's a lot of smaller budget western games that are great.

Also there's a few big budget western games that I enjoy as a guilty pleasure, like Rockstar's games. I realize they're inferior to japanese games though.

I love that game, but I wouldn't call it good.

I like good stories, settings, characters and gameplay in my games. If it has all of those I'll play it regardless of what kind it is, but I'm much more forgiving of the latter if the first ones are good than the other way around. Pure gameplay games don't attract me, which is also why I don't play multiplayer games.

Biggest issue for me with Japanese games is that they are far too often designed to waste as much of the players time as possible, which is something I just can't abide by.

I don't have that much time for playing so if a game becomes a grind or doesn't even have the goddamn common courtesy to put a continue point just before the boss, instead making me go through 5 minutes of the same trash mobs every time, I'll very likely drop it.

Not only was alice madness returns extremely repetitive and boring it was also chinese, not western.

I don't care about games on the left nor games on the right, except for Zelda and Pyre. The first one is not yet playable on PC, so I will wait for proper emulation. The second one is not even out.
