64bit only made it run better on low end machines. Fuck I just want to play with more than 40fps in cities so clearing buildings is fun on full servers. won't happen tho

primary reason servers have shit performance is either they retardedly run linux (which is proven to give worse performance for arma 3), have an AMD processor (cheapskates), not fast enough memory (arma 3 biggest FPS contributor is system memory), and not having properly set up a headless client.


most of times just having 3/4 of the system designated to do server, and 1/4 to do the headless client should boost performance significally.
but hardware situations for arma 3 servers is by far the most common reason performance is shit for everyone on server, because the server has to calculate every players graphical situation in addition to i.e. AI.

I really wanted to love Arma, but it is just too unapproachable.

That's what I meant by "too much to be redone" - mechanics of VR are different enough that you pretty much have to make a fresh game specifically for it. Generally those are solved problems though - gun handling is perfected by H3VR, there's a number of functional inventory and locomotion setups to choose from etc

Lets be real here. 90% of what Arma is used for is a modding platform. No one actually plays it for the milsim, (not usually anyways) and the dev's need to realize that.

They need to make it so mods can be better optimised and that the game actually uses more than one goddamn core while my other 3 jerk each other off. The game isn't visually demanding either, all the slowdowns are on the backend of the engine. As expensive as making a engine is they just need to start fresh.

As far as just playing as a regular Infantrydude McShootsmans, you really just need the basic movement/shooting controls and how to access stuff like map/compass and inventory. Pretty much everything else you'll need can be done from the context menu. The controls have always been fucking clunky but it's not hard to get used to them.

Fucking fix the framerate issue on servers. It's absurd how you can have amazing performance in singleplayer and multiplayer it drops to 25% that level because of their ooptimization.

Squad has retardedly high levels of recoil. I have an AK74 and it kicks nothing like the AK74 ingame. It doesn't kick much at all, but squad has a level of recoil far beyond Insurgency, Arma2 or 3 or any other shooter. I just don't understand why they've given it such an extreme level of recoil. We're talking five shots and it flies up almost 90 degrees.

Also go back to current times instead of near future. Make it early 2020s maybe but no caseless fictional 6.5 plastic fantastic gun, no bug-eyed space kebab.

They really need to bring down the fucking power level of a lot of weapons and vehicles. Hitting a 1000m shot on the first try with a tank that you have to manually aim is a lot more satisfying than "aim directly at target, zero with laser, shoot"

Better vaulting that isn't ass, and climbing small walls. Maybe a buddy system like Splinter Cell to boost up someone.

There is no fixing ArmA3... The Real Virtuality has 90% of its cpu workload on one single thread, while a second thread does the path finding.

Muh 64bits... As expected it doesn't do shit other than reduce stutter on people running the game on hard drive rather than SSD. Maybe a slight stability boost for people running a lot of mods, but that's it.

As fucking expected, it's fucking nothing.

Well on devbranch it seems they are working hard on making the FCS, HUD and HMD finally working semi realistically which is about fucking time.

There are like three or four DLCs planned for this year, and maybe more who knows.

Arma IV won't be announced until their Enfusion engine is finally in a stable workable condition.

For Arma 4 I hope for "in no particular order",

I would like for more variety of weapons, better optimization, and maps with more variety. I would like arma 4 on a new engine to fix old problems. Also add in more complexity like a better medical system (like advanced ace medical) and a better radio system (like tfar or acre). But that probably wont happen.

They really did a good fucking job with it in arma 2 too. I visited the Czech republic last year and it literally looks exactly how it looks in the game.

The new 64 bit update helped the game stutter less and made tanoa playable but it still runs like raw ass.

GTX1050ti and PentiumG4560 performs similarly to I57600k and GTX1070.

And by similarly I mean 40fps on most basic solo mission with two dozen AIs and two scripts...

Every new update brings new glitches and instabilities.

Servers are all wasteland kids running around with thermals and litteral bastards hovering three kilometers above with attack chopper rapping everyone using thermal and guided missiles. Somehow half of the other servers are Altis Life. KoTH pretty popular, but is absolute shit litteraly encouraging base raping and griding.

Few pve domination servers are ruled by wannabe corporals who yell at you for not waiting in line for the air taxi.


I really miss the Arma2 days, when it was all good fun, everyone running ACE2/Blastcore/JTD Fire&Smoke and JSRS for maximum fun and just having a blast every weekend.

And then DayZ came.

I don't really think much can be done gameplay wise in my opinion, it just needs be more refined and polished.

Mostly because of the AI and because the game doesn't lower your weapon automatically when you get close to walls. The later shouldn't be that hard of a fix, but the AI always was the best features but also the worst feature of Arma games.

There is a real niche for people eager to play gamemodes related to Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, Hidden&Dangerous or SWAT.

I wish BiS would try something in that direction.

Bohemia was really in a bad spot before DayZ mod btw. Disappointing sales for Arma and Arma2 before DayZ, Arma3 development wasn't going smoothly at all with lead dev litteraly jumping ship in the middle of everything, then two of their main devs arrested in Greece...

Arma3 is only so popular because of it's meme mods and Squad barely has a player base anyway.

Lot of the controls you'll never use, some of them are redundant and left overs from previous games.

The gruesome action menu takes care of most things.

I have been playing this series since the original back in 2001. Terrible performance has ALWAYS been the white Elephant in the room and yet they never adress it well. More than anything else, Arma 4 needs vastly improved performance. The graphics are good enough. My second wish for Arma 4 is to actually put effort into the sound effects department. Without mods the vanilla small arms sounds are absolutely abysmal.
