What video game has the best chance of being adapted into a movie that won't be total shit?
What video game has the best chance of being adapted into a movie that won't be total shit?
Idk
Persona
Walking sims
Movie games
Lord of the rings.
I hate ho whenever people try to adapt a videogame into a movie, they either get it 100% wrong, or straight up attempt to adapt the game, instead of making something that takes place inside the game's universe, but is a side story of sorts, or something that gives us more context on characters outside the main cast.
Metal Gear Solid 4
HE
Bioshock. Fallout.
>Sleeping Dogs
Essentially it'll just be another John Woo movie
tales of berseria
Everytime this question comes up I think of Resident Evil, Silent Hill then Doom in that order. Then I get sad and think about rewatching Doom.
Mafia
Deus Ex HR
That's not a bad thing, though. It's been a while since the market was oversaturated with highly stylized action movies. I'd welcome their return
If LAIKA made a stop motion Psychonauts game it'd most likely be perfect.
A Donkey Kong 64 trilogy.
I don't think it'd be bad either, I'm tired of every movie trying to be motivational/deep/pseudo-plot heavy.
A dramatized made for TV movie about the Mass Effect:Andromeda creation process and subsequent terror threats from Gamer Gaters and Moot would be a good Lifetime movie
Hotline Miami could work pretty well if it followed in a similar vein to Richter's storyline in HM2 by featuring the story of some other member of 50 Blessings who got caught up in something bigger and worse than they expected.
DOOM remake incoming.
LEGO Batman
>Moot
Who?
Some game which is basically a movie like Last of Us or Uncharted. What am I saying, Hollywood would fuck it up on their end.
Alright lets figure this out
First: Scratch off anything that was produced by Nintendo. By definition a Nintendo Game will be a terrible movie. Possibly a "so bad it's good" but thats not what we are shooting for
Second, no AAA titles. The problem is with expectations, the more popular the game, the more hype will be generated by the movie before release, which means even a good movie will be seen as failing to meet expectation and hivemind will turn a good movie into a mediocre movie.
Third, stay away from sci-fi. These movies are over done as it is and there are already good enough movies as it is in the genre.
Best bet is to pick a game with some type of a cool premise that they HAVENT already made a movie about already. See Tomb Raider vs Indiana Jones. One was a great movie, the other you probably forgot until just now.
My best bet would be something like Her Story. Obviously the game premise cannot translate perfectly to a movie as the whole point was investigating yourself, but something along the lines of the viewer following a detective piecing together bits and pieces of a story based solely on recordings of interviews, but not knowing the relevancy or the order. It could have some kind of a Memento feel, which would be great. I dunno just my thoughts
I always thought the Ultima series would make some good movies
Will never happen though
MGS (exclusively the first one)
Wolfenstein New Order
Saints Row
Xcom
That's about it
Warcra- oh wait
InFamous could be a good one.
The Witcher Series
I think it'd be cool if someone picked up Red Dead Revolver and did a good job of keeping the original style of that game while translating it to a movie.
OP here, post your dream vidya movie with plot/actors etc.
I want a Chrono Trigger movie that ends in a different way depending on the theater, similar to the Clue movies.
Yakuza or Metro
to be honest my 8 year old self is gonna take over hear, I just want a Halo movie that's 90% action and 10% plot.
the live action teaser isn't bad
That Yakuza movie adaptation isn't exactly full scale but it's a fun ride if you haven't seen it.
I would watch a Grand Theft Auto movie.
The pacing would be awkward. One scene the protagonist is shooting up some bad guys, the next minute he's bowling with his cousin.
I wanted Matthew Fox to play Commander Shepard, back when there were talks of a movie.
I noticed you picked IV there but of all of them which would you want adapted if not IV?
A documentary on /HWNDU/.
Super Mario Bros.
Like it will ever happen though.
I'll check it out, thanks user
Surprised to see that map here, no one talks about Ultima Online anymore. Basically if runescape was your childhood you were fucking robbed of a real experience.
Also I nominate Nier Automata, it practically should have been a movie.
I have a hard time seeing people outside of those familiar with the premise easily digesting this.
At first glance I thought that was DSP's o-face
>Scratch off anything that was produced by Nintendo
I think a Punch-Out movie could be great desu
It could've been good if they didn't start with the worst part of the lore. Also if they didn't butcher the worst part of the lore into even worse lore.
The infernal wasn't even ablaze what the fuck.
None of them. Hollywood doesn't have a leg to stand on when it comes to movie adaptations of damn near anything.
Legacy of Kain series
Dark Souls
Warcraft movie was very watchable. Not a masterpiece, but definitely watchable.
Honestly, a Devil May Cry movie in the same vein as Blade would be sweet.
Grim Fandango
>Metro
The book itself was a clusterfuck, things come and go and it's more like 'lore'book to take inspiration from for whatever Stalker shit you're planning. And yes, I'm aware the book came first, but anyway, how would you fit that into a movie? Given Hollywood they'd make the Fascists as the big bads and the movie turns out to be about stopping them instead of what the adventure was originally about.
Gone Home
Uncharted
What are you talking about OP? It already is... Kind of.
I'm with here.
A Punch-Out film with the style and tone of some of the MCU movies (even though I'm pretty fucking sick of them at the moment) could actually turn out pretty good.
Basically, a family underdog film about a young boxer going up against colorful foes and beating them through his sheer determination and will. Keep it light-hearted and kind of goofy, and cast some manlet with some amount of charisma to play Mac.
Some of the boxers would probably have to be changed to not be "offensive" by today's standards (before someone goes off at me about that, note that I put it in quotes).
Mike Jones
>MGS
>Xcom
These two take inspiration from too many existing films to be made into their own features. It would kind of defeat the purpose of them existing in the first place.
An XCOM film would gain nothing from being part of the franchise, it could just as easily be another film. XCOM only exists because of the premise of "what if you were in charge of Earth's defenses in an alien invasion". Removing the video game aspect would just make it into an Independence Day/Whatever rehash.
You made me miss that fucking game
>all those hours shitposting on goon, hippie and baystation
i'd see it
Viewtiful Joe, in tokusatsu format.
I'd actually love to see that. Their character designs would fit the style perfectly.
What went wrong?
The real difficulty would be capturing the real chaos that unfolds from a standard traitor match.
