Will there ever be an arena shooter again that's as good as halos 1-3, or quake/UT?

everyone starts with same weapons, there are weapons to pick up on map, most maps are symmetrical, what part of that isn't arena? Is it the vehicles?

The only qualities it shares with Quake/Unreal are weapon pickups and powerups.

There's no advanced movement, you can only carry 2 guns, grenades and melee are their own dedicated buttons, and there are no health/armor pickups because it just recharges.

there's health in ce, but it kind of feels tedious in a halo game. I like quake and UT but I do prefer regenerating shields over having health packs

also by advanced movement I assume you mean rocket jumping, but you can crouch jump, nade jump and use brute shot to jump, as well as equipment jump in halo 3

Halo pulls from too many sources to be defined by existing genres. It doesn't share enough from other AFPS aside from equal starts and pickups.

Also if you don't like console play the tons of old school or new PC shooters. I got old school Half life (so old it still asks about WON servers). And it's fun.

i've played halo 5, like I said, it's going in the right direction I just preferred 1-3, the customs browser is cool and I always liked seeing crazy shit people do to extend the game, but they're not always fun despite how creative/cool they may look

Which isn't something you'd ever do except for very specific scenarios because you take so much damage from your own grenades. The self-knockback has also been nerfed hard over the series' lifespan.

It's not because the money carries over from round to round (not equal ground for everyone at the start of the match), the weapons are not accessible at all times on the map itself and IIRC, there are some minor differences in the equipment allowed for the CT and T.

It isn't a requirement for Arena shooters for players to rocket jump around like space ballerinas on cocaine.

An Arena shooter is where players are put into an arena with weapon pickups strategically placed around.

Mention you have 7 or 8.1 and play games
most of the time you get told to get 10 since it has DX12 and games run better on it

there is no game like original quake so its not surprising to think some people would still play it. neither unreal or team fortress (whether on id tech 2 qwtf/megatf or goldsource tfc doesn't matter) does not satisfy quake 1 players, they do not play the same at all.

Nope speed and precision are part of arena shooters and the some of the best halos have aim assists of some form as for XIM can easily demonstrate.The same can be said for how many weapons it limits you to. Quake and UT which easily define aspects of the genre give you huge amounts.

Halo may borrow from these games like lots of others but it's more culmination of things than any one thing.

i'm going into game dev once I graduate this semester, so while it'll likely take me at least 5 years to gain industry experience that would put me in a postiton like that, i'd love to oblige

sniper is on the side, a very meaningful weapon, there are holes that you can throw nades into on both sides to kill a camper in sword room, there are 5 ways to cross to the enemy side, i've played on the pit hundreds of times and not once thought "damn i can't get to the other side to fight them cause they're nading these choke points too hard!"

Besides the aesthetic map design, Halo 5 has the best MP in the series.

And there's still 0 point to go to the enemy side when you have the lead. The enemy team has to come towards you while either totally out in the open, or while being susceptible to grenade spam.

It's going to be fucking hilarious when Halo 6 comes out for PC with the exact same mp mechanics of 5 (only exception maybe being smart scope) and Sup Forums does a total 180

if you only care about winning and play like a pussy sure, idk about you but I play arena shooters to kill the enemy players, winning is just a side effect of that. Being in the lead doesn't magically make me not want to get kills, and it certainly isn't gonna make me wait for them to come to me

Same with when you're not in the lead yourself. The enemy has no reason to leave their side of the map and you have to pile through a bunch of chokepoints.

so I grab snipe that spawns on my side and have a safe open path to a kill, also in halo you can school kids when you're better than them and 99% of the time on mcc the teammates you gat are shit so you're almost never in the lead. It changes nothing

Halo IS an arena shooter. Just a slower and tankier one, but it is in all sense an arena shooter with its own damage rules. That's why it was so fun. Map controling, weapon use, strafing and shooting, tanking damage and executing an enemy swiftly, it was just fun.

Bungie made the Halo games slower as they went on

as someone who's played all 3 bungie made games within the last year I don't really see it, unless you're talking kill time, cause that definitely slowed down a bit from 1 to 3

Arena shooter concept is not all about the speed and reaction times

Halo's design is really smart since it was thought as an arena game with consoles in mind. In consoles you can't and will not aim as fast as Quake, so they made the MC a bullet sponge but weapons have properties that help dispatch a player quickly. This also plays with the two weapon limit as a combo, and grenades as a backup to bust the shield. So it is slower, but makes up with its own distinctive playstyle and rules that just werk with the vehicles and shit.

Playing Murder Miners made me realize that would be so cool to have a proper Halo MP on PC.

But after Halo 3, you can clearly see how 343 missed the fucking point because they're millenials and didn't get what we're talking about and what and why Bungie did it that way.

Bungie even became complete fucking idiot by making Reach

for sure, but I feel like microsoft made them do it when they didn't want to and you could tell their heart wasn't in it like it was with the original trilogy
