Best 2D games ever

Does anyone know what is similar to this game, but more modern?

I really like the atmosphere and soundtrack, but I feel like a lot changed after this game, it was also too easy.

2D love thread.

The end of an era.

>I really like the atmosphere and soundtrack, but I feel like a lot changed after this game, it was also too easy
Not only is atmosphere and soundtrack better in DoS and OoE, but they are also more difficult.
SoTN is objectively the easiest Castlevania of them all.

I know, I even looked at ways to do speedruns with handicaps.

Sega saturn version is the best.

I just wish this game were remade with better graphics. And with a more challenging quest.

It's such a nostalgic classic that I find it hard to top. It was released right at the end of the 2D era.

It has issues, being easy is the biggest, but I want to find a game that has the same vibe.

The music is above average. It;s also kind of dated but in a cool way.

can someone help?

I am seriously looking for a 2d game that compares.

It sucks that this game was so rushed, and I want to continue with a game that is similar, or better.

3D is not the same.

There was an Alien game for a Gameboy

There's Guacamelee, Hollow Knight, Salt and Sanctuary

Nice

>Everybody hypes this game up as being the hardest Castlevania, only Castlevania on handhelds I haven't played, played it for a few days
>Literally the most linear Metroidvania of all time and everything besides the bosses are piss easy, with a few bosses just being shitty gimmicks
>Only ever use the lance and hammer glyphs except for the bosses that basically force you to switch to magic
>Shitty hearts mechanic pulled out of earlier games that was used for exactly one boss

Almost gave up after going to the third fucking area that is literally just a fucking hallway before getting to Dracula's Castle, with quite possibly the WORST goddamn Cock Tower I've ever had the displeasure to play through. I really wasn't missing much with this game.

Play the GBA and DS Castlevanias.
Also the 2D Metroids.
And La-Mulana.

It is the hardest of the SotN clones, and on the hardest difficulty it might very well be the hardest game in the series, but that doesn't mean it's good.
Large Cavern on Level 1 Hard Mode is not fun.

At least half of all the indie games ever made.

Seconding this. Took 22hrs for a 100% completion. Very non-linear too.

I don't know why Symphony was made was so easy.

Even if you avoid the "god mode" sword from the library shit was effortless.

If the game had "real" difficulty it would be a legend. It was a serious flaw.

tl;dr enemies were slow, had patterns basic shit

Not a Metroidvania you moron.

He said more modern. 2D Shitroid is not modern.

OP here.

It looks nice, I may give it a go. This is the kind of reply I am looking for.

Is there anything else that is dark and 2D? And fucking good?

Fusion and ZM are both more recent than SotN and AM2R came out very recently.
>Shitroid
Real fucking classy, we're all very impressed.

try Axiom Verge and Rogue Legacy

Yeah to be honest I am not looking for "low resolution" sorry.

- OP

You're a faggot.

- Everyone

Valdis Story may be up your alley.

Mad level: overheated

*car stops*

Welcome to reality, up there goes gravity.

Kill yourself

La-Mulana is the only answer that matters.

How about you eat a 2D rendered dick.

OHHHHHHH BURNNNN!!!!!

Fuck off Tanaka

Could anyone out of all castlevania stand a chance against magician mode Nathan Graves?

I never played a Castlevania, which one should I start with? Are the 3ds versions any good?

I honestly have avoided this game because the main character looks so lame and I've played most decent metroidvanias.

>reddit spacing
>implying Saturn is the best version of the game
Is that you NESfag?

here's the link to the /vr/ thread >
