Why were the 4 years between 2008-2012 so awkward for vidya?
GoW, Uncharted, and Halo years? Idk, awkward as fuck... such a lul

Don't forget 2007
It was the age of "dude we're HD but oh wait these consoles and our games can barely hit 720p lmao". Games got more expensive, meaning they try to appeal to more people, and it was just a spiral
Stop reminding me of Turok '08.
God of War and Uncharted were good games. I don't know about Halo.
every second of existence is awkward
>spend years slaving over developing a next gen title for ps2/xbox
>360 and ps3 on the horizon release
>half developers rush their game, just submit all their assets un-optimized cuz "muh hd console" to 360
>half of the other devs decide to do the same but with the ps3, but waste 1.5 years of dev hell in the process
>slightly better results, although still shit. just rushed ps2/un optimized assets

Economic recession
Only there were also masterpieces like Bayonetta, Batman Arkham City, Pandora's Tower, and Xenoblade Chronicles coming out.
This.
Industry was in some massive growing pains. Games like GTAIV, CoD4 and Halo 3 was changing things; massive amounts of people were playing video games suddenly. There was just an identity crisis, last gen was more niche and smaller scale, but suddenly games needed to have huge audiences to make up for the increased HD gaming costs.
I actually think gaming is improving because of mobile and social media. Mobile gaming is acting as a casual filter and social media allows for good word of mouth when it comes to smaller games.
