What could pawsably go wrong?
>Sonic Forces
SONIC FORCES HIS WHAT?
a) Wisps
b) Green Hill
Because Classic Sonic is getting a game, so we don't need him to be shoved into a 3D Sonic game. Classic Sonic gameplay diverts resources that would otherwise have been spent developing something new and good, or expanding and refining modern Sonic's gameplay.
If the rumors are true, the new character is one you make.
Because people want something different but the same
It's not. Sonic constantly went through reinventions and every one hated it, we get a sequel to the formula which was pretty universally enjoyed and some autistic babies are acting like autistic babies.
ITT: Nintendofags mad that people will realize Sonic Colors and Sonic generations were great games even better than Mario despite Sega games having the low budget feel
>I want classic gameplay! I want to go back to a time where games were about about gameplay
2 classic games released
>I want something different! I want memes!
>we get 4 boost games
>we only got 2 adventures
k, thanks Sega
>see 3d sonic, get hype
>fucking 2d sonic pops out of nowhere
Why do they have to keep doing this? I wish they would just try something new and stop rehashing 2d sonic, I don't enjoy it. Sonic generations was ok but not good enough to warrant 2d sonic bleeding into every fucking other game, just keep it to that series. You dont wisps being shoved into our face every game
Because Sega isn't the brightest.
They look at the reception of Generations and Lost World and figure that Generations was better received due to Classic Sonic being in it. Also, Green Hill.
Forces you through another bad sonic game.
But Lost World was full of Green Hills
yeah but it wasn't THE Green Hill
>good
Modern Sonic's gameplay looks fine
The premise of Eggman taking over is interesting
>bad
Classic Sonic looks to be the same gameplay from Generation without much improvement
Classic gameplay will be BTFO'd hard by Mania
Green Hill... again
>ugly
New character will likely have slow gameplay compared to the speedy Sonic's. Could end up with another werehog situation.
Very likely the New character is a create-a-character. Donut steel maker.
>Why do they have to keep doing this? I wish they would just try something new and stop rehashing 2d sonic, I don't enjoy it.
Is this bait or something? You realize they've done it for exactly one game before right?
>even better than Mario
hmm
>Very likely the New character is a create-a-character. Donut steel maker.
That's great though, always wanted to play as my OC Ultimate The Komodo Dragon
How do we feel about Bubsy's comeback?
>Iizuka: i-is not generations 2 we swear
Shiiit this would be a huge hit with the sonic fandom
a 3d sonic game has a 1% chance of being good.
>They'll make the OC: donut steel meme come true
So this is the power of the sonic fanbase autism.
I just hope I can make a chameleon
When actually was the last time we had a 3D sonic game without other shit being shoehorned in? Even Adventure had bullshit mech levels with uninspiring gameplay. Are they afraid to make a game without a gimmick attached?
I still can't believe they fucking put Green Hill in the game again. How the fuck do they keep getting away with this. On a positive note I like the way Classic Sonic uses the animation from CD when he shoots off a bounce pad.
Because sega still don't understand that sonic is about control physics and keep forcing the fast meme.
>good games got more sequels than shit games
Whats the problem?
>You dont wisps being shoved into our face every game
user, I have some bad news for you...
They could have made something new instead.
But that's not Green Hill. It's Emerald Hill.
Bazooka.
Hi! i'm sonic the hedgehog, and if you master the physics and controls, we get to go very fast!
Hi! i'm sonic the hedgehog, and if you get to hold up long enough without clipping thru a wall, i get to kiss a human girl!
I can already see this being an annoying out of place character
He said "2D", not classic, although he did word his post retardedly and didn't clearly define whether he meant Classic specifically or not.
Technically, if you're not interested in 2D gameplay and want a 3D experience, then the last mainline game to offer that is Sonic 2006. Unleashed, Colors, Generations, Sonic 4 (two episodes), the handheld games and Lost World have all had some variation upon 2D gameplay.
Personally I'm inclined to agree. I'd rather Sonic Mania became it's own spin-off branch of the series, like the Advance games were (running alongside the mainline games), while the mainline games went back to being fully 3D.
I wish sega learned with mania how to sonic physics.
I wonder how hard it would be to implement those physics into whatever engine they are using.
I think they use Havok right now.
Well, given how controlled and preprogrammed the physics are in those games, probably just removing the constraints and adjusting the vectors and shit until it matches the classic sonic physics would do the trick rather nicely.
After they put some traces to check when sonic went thru a wall to bounce him off of course.
Because the division of gameplay styles waters down the focus and brand.
We're getting a classic sonic game made from the ground up to play like the originals
Why should we get another 2D / 3D2D split of gameplay again?
Why is sonic so unfocused on developing his 3D gameplay styles?
as funny as the bubsy meme is, its tails.
hopefuly not the darker, edgier, nolan tails we deserve.
As much as I want it to be tail.
There is no way it can be him...He has literally no tails on this picture.
Tails is an NPC
3d sonic was never good and sega should stop trying to make it happen again
its a new game so im not judging it yet but sonic doesnt have a very good track record.
We shall see how it goes, i hope its good, sonic hasnt had a good title in a VERY long time
It isn't...if you were a fan of Sonic Generations 1. I was not.
Go fast doesn't work in 3D unless you develop the games in a completely different direction and turn it into Wipeout or F-Zero GX.
But those are racing games, not platformers.
So in my opinion they should forget that GOTTA GO FAST meme because in Sonic 1 you would never GO FAST in later levels, you were actually platforming, especially in levels like Marble Zone, which means they should focus on creating good 3D platforming gameplay.
Oh and drop the 2D levels bullshit, we have Sonic Mania for that.
Hold X to go forward on incredibly linear maps.
NO CHAO GARDEN
So is this more 2D or ist that more like Sonic Heroes?
I thought it will be like Sonic Heroes and lost worlds? (Didn´t play any other game than heroes)
Also the Logo really looks like 14year old punk anarchist shit.
Star Light Zone
It's a mix of on-rails and 2D sections.
oh that sounds cool. So Switch is kinda getting too many games.
It's on every other console too.
What ?
2 adventure games
>adventure
>adventure 2
>heroes
>shadow
>06
We already have mania
Well Disgea 5, SMO, this new 2d rpg thing that got announced, zelda goty edition, maybe mk8, Hollow Knight, Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces.
These are the ones I want to buy, and everyone except Hollow Knight maybe, releases this year.
Not saying "haha other console players get this", just saying I don´t know If I get the money and time for playing all these games.
God damn it Sega I want to play as TAILS AND KNUCKLES. It's been 11 years since either has been playable in a 3D game, and 17 years since either has had their own levels in a game
>Master the physics and controls
The controls are a D-pad and one button, don't be a moron. All you need to know to go fast in Genesis Sonic is that roll = good, slopes = ideal roll location, momentum can't be changed if you jump out of a roll, and to have reaction times faster than a marble statue.
Unlike, say, the Dimps titles, there are remarkably few cheaply placed spikes in the Genesis classics, very scarce bottomless pits (I think Sonic 2 has the most and Sonic CD has literally 1 pit in the final zone), and the screen resolution is actually more spacious than people give it credit for (although if you're shit, Taxman's got you covered with widescreen). You don't even have to git gud at Genesis Sonic to go at a decent speed, you only have to git gud if you want to speedrun.
I do think it's amazing how, in the 2 years since that bumblefuck Youtube channel (Previously Recorded?) made a video dicking on classic Sonic, these complaints have become commonplace, whereas if you went on a Sonic thread on Sup Forums in 2014 it was the exact opposite complaints (too easy, hold right to win, no substance in the gameplay etc). Probably one of the best examples of how nu-Sup Forums doesn't even play games and just gets their criticisms from the internet.
Being directed by the same guy as Colors/Lost World. The level design is gonna suck.
You can't really cal that " a lot of games" for a Year.
Not even talking about exclusive, unless you are a heavy mobile player ( who takes the train/plane on a regular basis ) theyre is no reasons why you'd want a switch since it'll be a lesser experience than anywhere else.
FUCKING THIS
Because the only good part of generations is the modern levels
>Nintendo continues the Bing Bing Wahoo Mario and polishes it
>65, Sunshine, Galaxy, 3d World, Odyssey
Praise
>Sega continues the Boost Boost Feelin' Good Sonic and polishes it
>Unleashed, Colors, Generations, Lost World, Forces
>Sup Forums hates it.
I much prefer classic sonic's design because he isn't made to appeal to autists with a warped idea of what's cool. That being said I don't think Sonic Forces should fall back on classic sonic for appeal. Generations happened and worked as an anniversary game. Let classic have Mania, let modern have Forces.
To be fair, boost will only be 1/3 of the game. The rest is classic Sonic and original the character's gameplay
Also, classic sonic straight up didn't play well in generations and there's no reason to believe it'll be better here. On top of that, they're also making a proper 2D sonic so there's a very clear comparison point so its flaws are far more noticeable this time around.
My dream is that the 3rd unrevealed gameplay will be Sonic with Adventure 2 physics.
Boostshit feels so unresponsive and slipplery to control, your turns feel like u are ice skating.
I love how in adventure/heroes, you are going fast and take a sharp turn = get rammed into the wall, but at least YOU did it. YOU control sonic, unlike autopilot boostshit.
>Lost World
inb4 no replies, i recognize this autist
But he is right
You are likely getting Boom-esque gameplay with the new create a furry.
>i-it's about the PHYSICS guise, not the speed!
Underage. The entire series was advertised and marketed on its speed-based gameplay since the first fucking game.
Good physics are certainly desired but they're not the core element at all.
>Nintendo continues Bing Bing Wahoo 3D series and polishes it
>Sega has absolutely no confidence in their 3D Boost formula so it's never the only gameplay style in the game and the one time it was, the game was barely 3D at all so it hardly counts. Also Lost World isn't even boost and Forces is only 1/3 boost
Wow yeah I wonder what the problem is.
There's a difference between what is marketed and what's done.
You have to remember sega is an arcade designer, and as such, messing with kids heads its their specialty.
The whole point is that speed on sonic is the reward for going well, it's like with the matrix or something, you're "the fast one".
So they market sonic as "going fast", and the kids will want to go fast, and they will need to git gud to finally be the sonic they saw on tv.
Now the boost games just give you the speed for free, and reward you with interspecies kisses.
holy shit that would make the game sell like hotcakes
although maybe it's like 5-10 years too late for it to really hit that autistic deviantart demographic
Reminder that in Japan, Sonic is "The Most Famous Hedgehog", not "The world's fastest hedgehog". Also in Europe we had to play Sonic 1 with 50hz slowdown, yet Europe nonetheless ended up being an incredibly lucrative market for Sega.
In most markets, Sonic was praised for its charming world, brilliant music, level design and physics. Gotta Go Fast is more of a burger thing.
You are delusional. It's obvious just from the mechanics and assets of the first game that the series was designed to be a speed-based platformer. The creators spell it out on several occasions and it's even reflected in Sonic's character design.
Quit forcing this tired meme that Sonic shouldn't be about speed. If it's purely a platformer then there are other franchises that will outperform it any day of the week, it will NOT succeed financially, and the franchise at a conceptual level would be rendered utterly pointless.
I really didn't get the hate on lost world.
Gameplay was ok.
Both Hirokazu Yasuhara and Yuji Naka have said on multiple occasions that Sonic was designed around speed. Your mental gymnastics aren't helping your case at all.
Not the user you were responding to, and I do agree with you to an extent, but I feel there should be some kind of middle ground between what you and the other user are saying.
To start with, Sonic Adventure and Adventure 2 were already plenty faster than the majority of 3D platformers out there (in the speed levels at least), so this constant push for even faster speeds to the point of the boost formula seems superfluous, and more importantly it damages the games development because it's fucking DIFFICULT to make loads of stages which are 10+ in-game miles long. The sensation of speed is arguably more important than the raw numbers of how much terrain you're moving past per second, and there are many ways to simulate the sensation of speed without having to make economically unviable giant stretches of stage. Besides which, yes, the speed WAS important to the Genesis games and these anons saying otherwise are idiots. It was the intention of the original games, and it was both a major selling point and a major source of fun, but it WASN'T the only factor in their success.
Like I said, middle ground. The boost formula and a constant push to be as fast as possible forces unhealthy development practices and is the source of many of the problems with 3D Sonic like the Werehog. Sonic became a worldwide sensation through a number of factors: charming characters, high speeds, physics, music, and so on. To place all of his success on speed is as stupid as those who think Sonic "was always about the physics". It was both, from the very beginning, combined with other things. Even the original developers knew this, because the original engine was capable of going much faster, but they put speed caps on certain forms of movement and locked the fastest speeds behind speed-up shoes.
>sega has no confidence
Umm. you know that boost has been polished and made better each game right?
>springs launch you in a pre-calculated direction instead of carrying over momentum
>speed booster right before a loop
>Green Hill AGAIN FUCK
>graphics look like a giant downgrade from Generations HD
Yep, Classic Sonic is still fucking garbage, Sonic Team learned absolutely nothing. Thank God that Mania still exists.
If it's worth anyhing, Force's boost seems quite slower than Unleashed/Generations
youtube.com
>you know that boost has been polished and made better each game right?
Well that's debatable for a start if we're actually talking about the boost formula itself and not any side content (so Unleashed vs. Colors is a fair fight between Sonic levels, no Werehog)
But also, if they have any confidence in this gameplay style, then they should make a fucking game that's all Sonic gameplay. Shoehorning classic in again screams of "we don't think this is good enough to sell without nostalgia and alternate gameplay styles". That's not confidence to me.
well the games for this year for only switch + buying the console comes to:
-300
-40
-60
-60
-price of the new kickstarter rpg thing
- Prices of the Sonic game
Which adds up to more than 500€. Also these are not games that I will play through in some weeks.
I mean there isn´t that many games for this year I am interested in. Hellblade looks nice, but much other than that? Not much. 7 Games for a year fullprice is in my eyes expensive. Not to forget all the vc games I want.
>shoehorining in good extra gameplay
Are people actually mad about that?
This "good" extra gameplay ain't even worth my nipple compared to the much, much better 2D variant that will be coming a few months earlier, there is nothing to sell by putting Classic into Forces
Sonic Generations was shit that's why.
Hey Lovelies,
My name is Arin, and I hate every single one of you. All of you are fat, autistic, no-lifes who spend every second of their day playing stupid ass Sonic games. You are everything bad in the world. Honestly, have any of you ever sold out? I mean, I guess it’s fun making fun of Chris-chan because of your own insecurities, but you all take to a whole new level. This is even worse than jerking off to Anita Sarkeesian on twitter.
Don’t be a stranger. Just hit me with your best shot. I’m pretty much perfect. I was founder of Game Grumps, and animator of my own rap group. What hobbies do you have, other than “jack off to naked drawn furries”? I also get straight shill money, and have a banging hot wife (She just blew me; Shit was SO grump). You are all faggots who should just kill yourselves. Thanks for listening.
Pic Related: It’s me and my alien
>good extra gameplay
I'll admit that it's better than many of the alternate gameplay styles we've had in the past, but yes, it is somewhat frustrating, because it's leagues below actual classic gameplay (which Sonic Mania is delivering) and more time spent splitting their resources is less time polishing the boost gameplay. I'd rather a game of boost formula done well than a game of boost and classic both done "okay". The phrase "Jack of all trades master of none" comes to mind when I think of games like Generations.
And it's not like they couldn't bulk out the game to be only boost formula gameplay. Provide a mode like Game Land from Colors, which lets them make more modern Sonic stages with very scarce resources. Give us proper time trial features and even online/staff ghosts. Give us old-school style alternate characters that function similarly to Sonic but with one or two different abilities, like the old days. Or hell, provide a 2 player race option! There are plenty of ways to stretch out the admittedly resource-intensive boost gameplay without resorting to just throwing in another gameplay style altogether. It almost seemed like they were learning this with Colors (although it had some problems of its own) but then they went right back to splitting their resources for Generations onwards.
>me and my alien
I actually find Suzy hot in a kind of "I'd bang her but not tell my friends about it" kind of way.
Yeah, it's all obviously make-up and she's got a pig-face underneath, but isn't that all women? All people for that matter? Beggars can't be choosers.
Because Generation was bad.
>shitendo
Already fucked.
So does that mean Sonic will be adventuring with two quiet autists?
She has FAS so no. I would never fuck a retard.
What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you grumpy bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Sonic Fighting Academy, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Eggmanland, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in hedgehog warfare and I’m the spindasher in the entire South Island armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another badnick. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Mobius, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of furries across the zones and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my spin attack. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to all the emeralds on Hidden Palace and I will use them to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit furry all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.
You're bullshit.
For one, Classic Sonic in Generations gameplay is NOT good. I mean that seriously. I just bought Gens for my Steam account less than a week ago, and just sat down to play it 2-3 days prior after getting my controller to work for it. Needless to say, I can't believe I thought the Classic stages for C.Sonic in this game was okay when I played this game like ~5 years ago, it plays so awkwardly and stiff and just makes me get pissed I'm not just playing Genesis Sonic again. Spindash is BEYOND fucked, you "tap" the button to charge and if you didn't held the button down for more than 1 sec, you barely move forward. But hold (not even mash like in the classic era) the button for just 1 sec, ONE, boost level speeds in a instance. My God the controls for Sonic is just half assed, and I honestly rather play Modern Sonic's 2D sections instead, it's well less shit. Which is embarrassing when his 3D sections are just as shit as C.Sonic's 2D sections, I can tell why people actually liked Colors so much now, it's a fucking Rush game in HD, that's it. The engine is CLEARLY a 2D based one and the only reason people defend this shit over other game styles was because 06 was dogshit and Unleashed was a superior alternative.
I honestly don't even hate Gens from my experiences so far after playing it in the past, I think I was more adaptive to the boost formula back when I was younger, when Unleashed and Colors was still relevant. But to say Boost gameplay isn't flawed and BOY is it REALLY off compared to Sonic Adventure's Sonic gameplay, it just makes me wish they just go back to that, It just seems like I'd enjoy this game much better if I can ACTUALLY move around in 3D right without feeling like I'm moving a tank, and had Taxman-tier physics for Classic Sonic again.
why is this pinned on a sonic generation thread ?
