TECHNICAL INFO >ETA 30APR >Version 1.36 >OFW and CFW consoles will play together >"Console Ban" PS3s require CFW >OFW PS3s require PSN >OFW updates requires reinstall (intended to be unnecessary) >According to the Devs, MGO2R will persist through PS3 Updates >Devs able to add content >Devs restoring cut/beta content (need more beta Game Data)
GAMEPLAY INFO >Cheaters/Griefers actively targeted >Cosmetics 100% unlocked >Skills unlock debated >Can have 2 alts (3 total) >Survival/Tournaments coming
OFW INSTALL >The easiest method wipes your HDD except for MGO2. This is because you're "restoring" someone else's PS3. HOWEVER! >PREVENTING DATA LOSS: >>Download the custom backup to your computer >>Create a backup of your PS3 >>Overwrite the MGS4 Game Data from your PS3's backup with the one from the forum >>Restore your modified backup >>Done, NO DATA LOST (may need to redownload Trophies)
CONNECTION >Only Original/Greatest Hits/Platinum have MGO2 data to enable >>Anniversary/Legacy/PSN (Digital) have no MGO2 data >CFW users can choose "region" to mask as at startup >OFW is region-locked as per usual >Devs working to make region irrelevant
SAFETY >Devs insist that it's undetectable >>Their words, paraphrased; "All that's being done is bypassing the MGS4 game update and redirecting the connection to the SaveMGO servers. We're also confident that this method is undetectable by Sony. The game reads no different from the actual 2.00 version and the other file changes are minimal and within MGS4/MGO2 itself. Even if Sony/Konami were to pursue legal action against SaveMGO, there would be no way for them to detect the players that have modified their MGS4/MGO files."
I bought a ps3 again specifically to play this. Glad to download my old PSN shit too.

Fucking sucks to be p c c u c k. I only have access to the mgo3 and it's fucking garbage and dead as fuck. This game looks so much better
Elijah Reed
HOLY FUCK OP, TELL ME THIS IS REAL? TELL ME I CAN PLAY THIS NOW ON MY PS3 SLIM???? OMG I CANT PLAY THIS AGAIN AFTER ALL THESE YEARS????
Landon Taylor
You can get CFW PS3s for about $150 and OFW PS3s for cheaper. Consider hopping on, my man, PS3 has some good games and this isn't the only one with online play that's still strong.
Dudes literally still play MGSPW online co-op all the time. I played start to finish with a guy that randomly happened to have bought the game that day about 2 months ago.
I think a large part of it is that the PS3 is super popular outside of the US and especially in "developing" areas. They also jury-rig PS3s to do other shit, including military function.
If your Slim is CFW or CFW-capable, you can play it this very minute. CFW install is in the OP.
If its hardware allows for OFW 3.60 or above only, you'll have to wait for OFW release, but it's working and it's coming real soon.
Glad to have helped, haha.
Nathaniel Clark
I have no plans to modify my ps3 slim for CFW but i'll gladly wait for OFW. I'm hyped. Was playing the shit out of MGO2 back then.
Carter Russell
you're pretty good
Connor Lewis
I hope for more threads like this in the future, OP, i'm counting on you so more people can get interested and we might get a decent Sup Forums MGO2 group going or something.
Chase Price
I'm pretty sure he's been making these threads every single day. If not, it's been close to it.
Charles Russell
Oh, yeah? That awesome, man. Looking forward to it, myself. Please consider voting in the Strawpoll to give the Devs information which is as accurate as possible.

Gonna keep on shillin' about once every day in the hopes of the same. Keep on, keepin' on, and thanks for posting ITT. Perfect counter for the one or two people that wait for this thread so that they can shittalk it. XOF Division of Konami
Ethan Gomez
Yeah, roughly once a day. Most of the time I let it die if that's the way it goes, though. I've had a thread that I posted about 2100 have 0 replies and just tank straight to 10 and bleed the fuck out.
I try to avoid spamming or something, but at the same time intend to get the information out and keep it relevant. I've seen people bringing it up in other threads and then chimed in, linking to specific information or archived threads I've posted. I'd like to think these threads are helpful.
Camden Lee
It was like the only online game i played on my ps3 and actually the only reason I touched my ps3 back then. Played it so much I actually gotten good at it. The only rank I remember having at the time was Big Boss, level 17 or 18, forgot what my Grade score was tho. I miss my pink beret...
Holy shit, you can equip Vamp's dickknife? That's seriously surprising.
If that's the rank you had, you might like this.
Aww man, I forgot all about those. Those were fantastic. I should try to cram them into the OP, thanks for the links bud.
Ayden Sullivan
nice, and yeah it took me awhile because MGO2 had requirements for the different ranks and I believe Big Boss rank was that you had to have a good score in multiple gamemodes, a good survival score and win a tournament to get the rank. Completely forgot the specifics but that's the basic of it.
David Gray
That's pretty cool. I really like the codename system a lot. MGO2 in general just seems amazing.
Jordan Jones
I remember seeing people with Sloth rank, u get it fi u die a lot so it was hilarious to see, there's chicken rank, u get it if u don't kill a lot of people. Shark rank is when u knife a lot of people, the list goes on and on. Pretty great.
Brandon Cox
It's going to be so fucking great to relive those maps again. H.H was comfy. M.M was the Dust1/2 of MGO but more fun and doesn't become tedious. G.G was great fun too. A lot of people didn't like I.I but I loved it and the weather effect.
Matthew Brooks
Why not just play MGO3 tho How is 2 better?
Parker Taylor
so ETA on the ability to play on OFW?
Tyler Gutierrez
MGO1 is MGS3 gameplay with multiple people. Really good apparently. MGO2 is MGS4 gameplay with squads and map control. Buying MGS4 gets you this for free. MGO3 is MGSV CoD audience mode.
Charles Martinez
I remember back when I played MGO3, I had Hawk, Shark, and Crocodile. My playstyle always involved getting lots of intel to people which resulted in Hawk, Shark I think was from Walker Gears (I killed those as priority 1, hate those fucking things), and Crocodile was some minimum K/D ratio. I wanna say it was about 2:1. I usually ended matches 10:3 give or take one or two deaths and two or three kills. I used to get people accusing me of only being able to make kills because of the RPG, but in reality that Panzerfaust was just so much fun that I toted it everywhere. I used it mostly to take out snipers, destroy weapon emplacements, and destroy Walker Gears.
End of April. They're working as fast as they can, but there's always "one last thing" to improve. They want OFW players to not have to reinstall it to update it.
Controls and graphics are the only thing that MGSV has over MGS4 (MGO3 and MGO2 by extension). The games' communities also are vastly different. MGO3 for the most part is CoD bullshit nowadays. Stuff like in those videos I posted in this post are long gone, replaced by C&D matches where defenders sprint straight to the Attacker spawn. Compare the C&D video above to this one. This is what C&D was like in the early days of MGO3. That kind of gameplay just never left MGO2
Cool and what do u mean by reinstall it? You mean the MGS4 update? Or the PS3 update itself?
Eli Edwards
The edited MGS4 Game Data. I'll rewrite it to be more clear. Everything for OFW revolves around getting the edited Game Data onto your PS3.
Alexander Sanchez
...
Ian Cox
Sounds pretty straight forward, i'd hate to have to format my ps3 and reinstall all my shit.
Nathaniel Rogers
Typing it out at length in case someone comes here looking for answers after archival.
The big issue is that if you just take their backup and restore it to your ps3, it'll delete a ton of your shit.
It's some sort of countermeasure to something or other by Sony or some stupid shit.
If you restore a backup OF your ps3 TO your ps3, you won't lose anything except maybe needing to reinstall your trophies.
The way to get the best of both worlds is to put the edited MGS4 Game Data from the forum into a backup of your PS3, then restore THAT instead. That is accomplished by the meme arrows in the OP.
The already-custom version is just there for people that don't care.
Benjamin Stewart
but then the problem is not MGO3, but the community. Konami, or any gaming company really, are not responsible for the community their games attract, they cannot prevent the obvious CoD noob that just want a quick win or anything of the sorts really.
Either ways, MGO3 looks amazing honestly, i really love it, wished it had more content like Maps/Character/Cosmetic customization to be honest. A dedicated MGO games mixing the good elements from MGO1/2/3 would be great.
I'm going to need to see MGO2 gameplay video to see the difference with MGO3. Looks like the controls, and the graphic, are better as you said but honestly if the only problems of MGO3 is the community.. there's nothing to blame.
Xavier Robinson
It seems that you're being genuine, so I'm going to give a genuine response. This will come from someone who is a massive MGS fanboy and who was extraordinarily excited for MGSV, one that played much of MGO3.
Joshua Lee
what's this smile app? I see it everywhere
Owen Taylor
>Not MGO3, but the community The community of an online-only mode heavily reliant upon multiplayer connection is literally the most important aspect. This is why MGO2 never really died and is being revived again after much effort. The community makes the game.
>Not responsible for the community and so it is a non-issue I don't care whose fault it is. If we're talking community-only, all that matters is what the situation is, not how it arose or to whom we may point for blame. Cold, hard facts: The community of MGO3 was great at first and became much less. Additionally, this was due partially to Konami's poor handling of MGO3. They pandered to the worst mindsets. They don't go after griefers/cheaters. I could go on all day about why it's their fault, to be honest, but it boils down to this: MGO3 is fucking boring to play and every match, people play the same meta-meme bullshit ways. It's no longer played like Metal Gear.
>Needs more customization MGO2 is FUCKING DROWNING in customization, Meanwhile MGO3 you've got 3 full outfits you can color however you like and a bunch of fucking Halloween masks. NEATO. You're not making cool and unique operators. Everyone and everything looks generally the same unless you wear those stupid fucking masks. If I was gonna play TF2, I'd just play TF2.
>If the only problem is the community, there's nothing to blame I blame the game for appealing to shitbirds. I blame the shitbirds for continuing to play it. I blame Konami for taking a shitbird approach and then pandering to shitbirds. MGO3 felt like Metal gear for a couple of months. Then it went straight to hell and never recovered. If you enjoy that, have fun, do whatever you want, but people like myself aren't interested. You yourself acknowledge that MGO2 is a different type of game. That's what appeals to us, and we intend to leave you to MGO3 which appeals to you. Please enjoy.
FaceApp, only works with iOS and Android. Shockingly effective.

Fucking this

>I'm going to need to see MGO2 gameplay video to see the difference with MGO3 I can't think of a good match video off-hand right now, but there's a ton for MGO2. Have these instead, in the meantime. youtube.com/watch?v=XYgseOxwf9o youtube.com/watch?v=h_659oqbmuM
I'm sure someone will come around that can post a great match if the thread stays alive long enough.
Brandon Williams
I should put these in my OP. Thanks for taking the trouble, bud.
Wyatt Gonzalez
I guess it would actually make more sense to just look up a random match than a "great" one, since that's more likely to give you an idea of general play.
To throw off people that might be targeting them and to suddenly crouch without having to stop, even for a split second. In MGS4, attempting to crouch while running will cause you to roll.
Jaxon Richardson
It's adorable that at the end, "she" pats the guy awake and apologizes, then does a little giggle.
Christopher Howard
neato
Nathaniel Green
That's called box popping, works well against ppl trying to autoaim(the autoaim in MGO2 works differently, you have to be real close for it to target), ppl trying to CQC, or even ppl trying to shoot you.
Kevin Bailey
I also dislike it. I dislike that and the little crouch-spin you'll see a lot of MLGPRO guys doing.
Andrew Clark
Who cares?
Mgs is dead.
Dominic Cox
Prove it.

>Kage Shitpost no Jutsu!
1,550 self reports for US and EU a month after announcement and a month before ETA with the only advertisement being word-of-mouth flies directly in the face of your assertion no matter how many threads you post this in.
Jonathan Hernandez
>tfw never played originaro mgo2. did i miss out?
Played one match of mgv online and the gameplay felt weird
Levi Jones
Never too late, bud. A lot of people missed out, but soon we'll be able to make up for lost time with none of the shit that was always complained about (the bullshit grinds and griefers) and all of the best aspects, in this case a community guaranteed to be dedicated enough to go through personal effort to play. All this and the dedication shown so far by the Dev staff to take down griefers and cheaters makes for a very promising release.
The video posted in the top of is why MGO2 was so loved and why it's coming back despite dedicated shitposters such as being in every thread I make.
Jaxson Kelly
You're delusional and autistic for posting this thread repeatedly. Almost as much as me.
Ian Sullivan
Autistic, maybe, but these threads do okay and the strawpoll speaks for itself (as do the many videos that have been posted on YouTube over the years and up to this very day).
Nolan Clark
Compared to what usual shitty threads get posted here, this one is a breath of fresh air, moreso if u are a MGO fan.
