Can we please just have a Metroid thread? Leave your autism at the door thanks.

Post your favourite 2d and 3d game. Your favourite area, favourite boss or soundtrack piece.

Where do you think the series should go from here? How do they claw out of the hole they've dug? Should the series be given back to a western developer? Are the rumours of Metroid news at e3 true?

Metroid thread go.

The lesson you just learned is do not start a Metroid thread with Zero Suit Samus because it attracts the worst kind of shitposter.

Except I didn't post the last thread and I was in the middle of a legitimately interesting discussion despite the somewhat baity OP and the thread gets deleted instead of the literal """""sfw""""" fetish thread.

I love Other M, ama.

Just give me a sequel in the style of Super. I don't care where or how it takes place, just give it the same style of world design.

I honestly think a post fusion game could work really well. It could start with samus having the metroid genes removed which would provide the perfect excuse for starting the game with no suit powers or upgrades. I'd love to have a game set on the chozo homeworld or something.

Metroid genes were already removed at the end of Fusion along with any trace X matter.

dude who cares, just drop me off on some backwater shithole and let me chart it out.

If Nintendo released any sort of classic styled Metroid, I'd buy a switch. I don't know why they ignore Metroid when it's one of their most critically acclaimed series. Shits depressing

They just don't know what to do with it, their last two attempts bombed like crazy.

Critically acclaimed but poorly selling. The prime games did alright in the west but low sales in japan. Other M sold really well in Japan but shit on in the west. It's too fractured right now. I think they should just find another western developer like retro they can give it to.

just give me a good game. After the last two, it wouldnt even matter to me what form its in. I just want a good game using the metroid IP

Other M did not sell well in Japan. It sold better than usual for a Metroid game, but not great. The thing was a shit bomb that tanked everywhere.

What I don't understand is why, after other M bombed so hard, they'd release a full length handheld game NOT featuring the very recognizable main character, in the style of prime on a handheld.
The choice to make federation force just baffles me

>in the style of prime
It's a first person shooter but beyond that it doesn't have much in common.

It's getting kind of hard to come up with ways to have more surviving metroids after Corruption, Other M and Fusion.
Why not make a prequel about a Chozo warrior telling the origin of the metroids?
The main plot objective would be to gather cell samples from the strongest predators in the galaxy, and there would be NO human characters except ancient Egyptians!

I was also in that thread, i was arguing with some douche and i wanted to argue more

also captcha still on my ass for posting so much 2 hours ago

Well now that we know the GFed can freely clone them there's no worry about running out of Metroids.

I'm a "Prime baby" and I dislike the 2D games.

Prime executes its atmosphere so much better than Super, Fusion, or Zero Mission. Those games feel like simple platformers with a thin veneer of "spoopy cave" aesthetic. Prime and Prime 2 feel like actual simulators of what it would be like to crash on a planet and have survive and explore.

I'm not baiting, I genuinely feel that the Prime games make 2D Metroid utterly redundant and no longer possible to enjoy. The feel like 8-bit Bayonetta vs the actual game.

>Those games feel like simple platformers
git gud

>2D

Zero Mission

>3D

Echoes

>Area

Sanctuary Fortress

>Boss

Dark Samus

>Soundtrack

...

>Favorite 2d
I'd say either Super or Fusion
>Favorite 3d
Prime 1
>Favorite area
Phendrana Drifts. Super fuckin comfy and I looove the music that plays. Also finding the Metroid research facility when I was younger was cool and spooky as shit. Well spooky when you had to rely on the thermal visor.
>Favorite boss
That's a tough one actually... I think Ridley from Prime 3. I liked the whole fighting while falling thing, it was really fun imo.
>Favorite soundtrack piece
Phendrana just because I feel like it compliments the atmosphere.
>Where do you think the series should go from here?
Good fucking question. Honestly don't know, but at the same time wouldn't mind seeing a spinoff game going in depth with the galactic fed marines, and not while they're in those much things from that shifty 3ds game. A gritty down and dirty squad based (maybe) shooter like Republic Commando, think it would be really fun.
>How do they claw out of the hole they've dug?
Fucking Shrug
>Should the series be given back to a western developer?
Shit maybe
>Are the rumours of Metroid news at e3 true?
Shut. If it is, I hope it isn't trash

Daily reminder that Metroid is a 2D series. The 3D games aren't to be regarded as real Metroid games.

I wonder why Zelda doesn't have this same kind of purism.

Dude I respect your opinion but you have to remember that Super came out on a 16 bit console in 1994.

Listen to this shit.

Not a lot of games felt like that back then. Prime is amazing because they managed to retain this feeling along with the exploration focused gameplay while also utilising the gamecube's powerful hardware. I dunno man, saying "new games makes old games irrelevant" feels a bit like saying "modern writing makes Shakespeare irrelevant". It comes across as a little ignorant.

It does it you go really deep into the autism. Metroid fans are unfortunately thin-skinned so this sort of bait gets more bites than it would in a Zelda thread.

I've never seen a Zelda fan sperg out OoT being some sort of stain on the series and 2D Zelda being the only valid style.

Probably because OoT is still the highest rated game of all time and that's a pretty difficult crown to dislodge.

>How do they claw out of the hole they've dug?

Retro makes Prime 4
Gee that wasn't so difficult.

Prime falls 2 points short of OoT's metacritic score and remains the highest rated entry in the series by far.

Might be a timing issue?

You just made me imagine a timeline in which a good Metroid came out on the n64 and was rated as highly as OoT and we got Breath of the Metroid instead of Adventures of Twinkboy on the switch.

Retros staff is so different nowadays I'd be worried for the sequels quality tbqh

I genuinely place Fusion as my favorite Metroid mainly because I've played it for 8 years consecutively.

I do appreciate every other Metroid game, the Prime's are well made and so are the other 2D titles especially Super of course. I like Zero Mission over Metroid 1+2 however.

What are your opinions of Fusion? I wish to know where people stand in terms of it being a good or bad Metroid title.

If dong returns and dong freeze are any indication, Retro still has a fuckload of great talent.

I dislike the story and the linearity, other than that it's quality

I fucking love Fusion.
I might be biased though, it was my first Metroid. I still regard Super as the best by far if that's an consolation for the purists.

>everyone on the internet crying about metroid games
>one day get gba4ios, alright let us start with zero mission
>fuck how good
>skip 2 because gameboy
>start super metroid
>instantly feel like I am 10 years old again, alone in my room, with my old crt tv and this game

Thank god I didnĀ“t played this game as a kid, because if so then I would never found a better one.

Fair enough, but those games are very different from Prime, making a 2D platforms is a lot easier than something like a worthy successor to Prime

Nah im done with Metroid
i've stopped hoping

It's the weakest 2D game by a noticeable margin but still manages to be decent. Best bosses of all the 2D games, hands down.

I feel like the first two games were weaker. Super Metroid is when they really perfected the formula.

fusion was king of atmosphere
Had very fun gameplay too.
I just wish there were more open ended exploration segments.
probably my favorite 2d metroid if not counting am2r

My brother, I'm with you. Fusion was my first even back when I didn't know what it was. When I got into the game myself I was amazed by how well the gameplay went, minus then linearity and story pacing.

I still loved it when you find out that there's Around 10 SA-X aboard the station

I prefer the nonlinear style is better, but at least Fusion made the most of the linearity.
You can't have setpieces like the Sector 3 meltdown, the reactor shutdown, the Sector 5 destruction or the secret lab in a nonlinear game.

Just how hard would she peg you, user?

Fusion was fucking incredible. It was more linear than the other games but it worked. I liked that it actually tried new things with the series. A little too handholdy, but still a great game. If Super is 9.5/10 Fusion is 9 or 8.5/10 at worst.

I preferred Super's floaty physics and acceleration (run button!). Sequence breaking at it's best. Prime's also a favourite of mine to replay specifically because of sequence breaking.

This. It's something all the indie metroidvanias popping up lately forget about.

It really pisses me off when people say "REEEEEEEE WHY IS THERE NO NEW METROID GAME YET". As much as I'd love to see a new Metroid game, I want them to do it properly rather than just making a game for the sake of making one. What made Metroid games so great is that they had so much attention to detail and thought put into them, which is why so many Metroid clones have been released and none of them have dethroned Super Metroid. As far as I can tell, Nintendo have 6 main development teams: The Mario Kart team, the Animal Crossing team, the Zelda team, the NSMB/Pikmin team, the Wii Fit/Star Fox team and the 3D Mario team. I don't particularly think any of them would be suitable for making a new Metroid game so they'd have to look outside their in-house development teams. The only studios I would immediately trust with the Metroid IP is Retro Studios, I'd be content with them either making a 2D or 3D Metroid. Alternatively Nintendo could try a third-party developer, although apparently they tried to approach third-party developers and all of them declined.

My personal pref:

Super=Prime>ZM>Echoes=Fusion>Corruption>Pinball>2>1

I was enjoying the 2 remake, but my PC crapped out and I haven't gotten round to playing it again yet.

Excellent taste my nigger.

Most of the indie Metroids have much worse map design too. The map is easily the most essential part of a Metroid game and if it's not carefully thought out and planned the whole experience can get dragged down.

This, it was one of the issues I had with Axiom Verge.

They don't forget about it, it's just that sequence breaking is pointless and irrelevant to 99% of the people that play the genre, so no one focuses on it.

>The genre's defining feature is irrelevant
Sure kid.

lol

Meltdown in Sector 3 was actually one of my most favorite parts in the game next to the build up of the initial BOX fight

>skip 2

Go play AM2R right now. It's the best 2D Metroid.

>Prime portrays the GFED as a benevolent force. If somewhat spread thin and overstretched
>Other M portrays them as Weyland Yutani light.

I want to see the middle ground in a Fusion sequel.

W-was this what was happening every time I die?

They should get rid of the Zero Suit and bring back the two piece outfit.

Nintendo should invest more in western devs. Especially for stuff like Metroid and Star Fox.

I hated the ZS the moment I laid eyes on it. High cut Super undies are the best to this day and I challenge anyone to a fight who disagrees.

Super Metroid, Lower Norfair, Ridley, Brinstar

>Where do you think the series should go from here?
Make a 2.5D sequel to Fusion for the 3DS.

>How do they claw out of the hole they've dug?
See above, while also releasing GBA Virtual Console for the New 3DS and adding Metroid Fusion as one of the first games on the list. This will give players all 4 mainline Metroid games to gear them up for Metroid 5 and for the first time put all main numbered 2D games on the same system.

> Should the series be given back to a western developer?
No, series needs to go back to Nintendo's eastern devs. I want Nintendo's own EPD7 to make Metroid 5 as they did Fusion and Zero Mission.

>Are the rumours of Metroid news at e3 true?
Could be, I'm crossing my fingers, it's too bad that the rumor is for the 3DS now I'm putting off getting a Switch until the handheld only version releases.

Metroid games don't have 'puzzles' as such, they're all about rewarding exploration. What are the best Metroidvanias at the moment? I enjoyed Xeodrifter and Guacamelee.

>2.5D
What does this mean?

What Nintendo really needs to do is dramatically restructure how they approach their franchises. Instead of a character being at the mercy of whether or not a director wants to make a game for them, each franchise should have dev teams that rotate after every development cycle. Nintendo has a shitload of great young talent that is just getting pissed away on crap because an old-guard higher up doesn't care to invest his time into a franchise.

This

3D but the camera is fixed as a side scroller. It will play like a 2D game but characters, enemies, and environments will be in 3D.

I'd like to see you make that play as tightly as a real 2D game.

If it's EPD7, they can do it.

Please don't let a thread with decent discussion and little to no shit/waifu posting die.

What's your favourite Metroid game and why?

My first console was a gamecube with the prime bundle box in 02, I went to school and when I got home some toddler had snapped my disc in half before I even got a chance to try it

I was 7, I'm 21 now and bought a gamecube and prime last year, just beat the flower boss flygrha or something, having fun, but sad I didn't get to experience this in 02, its like I can see it was great for 2002, but its just not the same

just got the power suit and turned it off, was a little burned out, the controls add to the atmosphere but are very frustrating desu, is every game like this?

Play the Trilogy version instead.

what

Instead of playing the Gamecube version, play the Wii version. It's got much smoother controls. One of the few Wii games where the controls are improved.

I want to replay Metroid Prime in VR. I haven't replayed Prime 1 or 2 in a few years, and I almost want to wait until it's absolutely perfect in Dolphin VR to play them again.

And I want at least 16:9 aspects ratio, although 21:9 would be fucking amazing.

Anybody know a game that best simulates 2D Metroid? I know there are a shit ton of indie "Metroidvania" games out there, but only Cave Story has really appealed to me and even then it's a much more vertical and fast paced game.
I'm looking for something like Super where Samus's body felt like a larger, heavier character, but she didn't have restricted movement of Alucard.

Momodora, sort of. It's a challenging game but there aren't all that many secrets.

oh nice, that actually looks really cool

Aquaria
Axiom Verge
Iji
Holdover

Most indie Metroidvania's are much closer to Castlevania than to Metroid.

I always thought Metroid did Metroidvania much better than Castlevania

considering her suit got butchered in fusion, i think it would make sense for her to go on a trip trying to find at least a chozo outpost or something trying to either repair her suit or get a new power suit.

from that they can add space pirates trying to steal chozo tech, native lifeforms and whatnot

Prime. There's just something about the whole grassland - desert - lava - ice - tech trope that I'll always love. Music was perfect as well, phendrana drifts being a particular high point.

Why do people like us have the most based taste?

there's no 'se' in "bad"

At the end of Fusion when Samus returned her DNA back to normal, her suit gained the defenses and strength it had before. In other words, Samus no longer needs her original Power Suit because the Fusion Suit acts like one. Plus the new Metroid team made the suit because they wanted Samus to have a new look for Metroid games that took place after Fusion.

new metroid game when? and if you mention fed force, I'm gonna REE

I thought she still had the metroid DNA, she just overcame the incompatibility with the ICE beam?

Metroid is dead. Accept it.

The Fusion suit was a shitty GFed copy of the Varia, it was always inferior to the Chozo original. Just because Samus is back to full power doesn't magically make the Fusion suit better. She'd need a new Chozo suit if she wants to interface with Chozo artifacts again.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NEIN NEIN NEIN HET HET HET

The pain of how good it is with some more modern conventions shows how badly Nindie is fucking up with not putting a little effort into the franchise. One rag tag team of amateurs made AM2R. A team of professional devs could surely turn out something similar or better.

It's fucking frustrating when you think about it, user.
