General Switch Thread

>Played with a Switch for the first time yesterday
>The console felt like shit to me despite being excited for it
Once again my expectations were too high and Nintendo left me disappointed. It's been 8 years since I bought my last Nintendo console, and I was hoping this year I would break that streak, but it seems like this wasn't it.

Still, how are the Switch owners on Sup Forums feeling with their purchase? What games are you waiting for? What are your hopes for the future of the console?

Geez, I actually like the way the switch feels, or atleast compared to everything Nintendo has put out before.I'm happy with my purchase, just wish they wouldn't wait until late April for MK8D when it's obviously done.
Right now i'm looking forward to MK8 and Disgaea, maybe WonderBoy based on other's perceptions.

>It's been 8 years

Why don't you just speak in terms of console generations...? is it autism in order to make the amount of time seem longer...?

I played it a ton for like the first week, but I've slowed down a lot taking my time on Zelda, holding off completion till MK8D releases.

Looks like its going to be pretty dry till E3. I was going to buy it anyway so I don't regret my purchase unless price drops.

Seem longer? I think everyone knows how long a year is. If anything, saying console generations confuses people because they dont know how long a console generation is. Using a measurement which people know makes what he said much clearer.

The build quality is incredibly cheap, everything about it feels flimsy. Joy-cons are difficult to slide in and out, cheap plastic screen, shoulder buttons feel like they'll just rip off. Mine isn't bending yet but I'm legitimately worried

I have 7 days to return it and I probably will now that I'm done with Zelda. It's just not worth it right now. I'm hoping they work some of this shit out with a revision. The idea is there but the execution is garbage

Because technically speaking the last Nintendo console I bought was the Wii on summer 2007 iirc. The last product I bought was a DSi, which is the one I referred to on the OP.

I had been playing it pretty much daily for a month but now I've finished the 5 games I bought for it and just waiting for the upcoming games. I wish there were other things on here like an internet browser or Youtube, something to entertain myself between plays. I would be carrying it around more if it did have those features but for now, it's on my nightstand. I don't regret my choice to purchase it as I do enjoy being able to take my games anywhere, especially since I travel somewhat frequently.

You sound like the one with autism tbqh

Hot opinions you got there, retard.
I hope you don't expect to give a fuck.

>SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP NO ONE CAN CRITICIZE MY FAVORITE CORPORATION

wow this wojak really made me reconsider

>The build quality is incredibly cheap
This is what I feared. Neither 3DS nor Wii U and its Pad/Pro controller feels very high quality compared to PS4 Pro, DS4 and the xbone controller. GCN and GBASP were at lesat really durable.
I think I'll have to test it in store before anything, even if I'm almost 100% sure I'll get the inevitable revised version.

I really like how versatile it is.

>play on TV
>feel like moving to another room, put it into handheld mode
>gotta use the restroom to go #2, take it in and put it in table top mode for abit (will wash hands before and after toilet use of course)
>take it back and pop it in TV mode
>have continuous fun times

Also I'm having a really good time with Single player and local multiplayer of Zelda, Bomberman, Voez and the Neo Geo games.

Anyone here have Graceful Explosion Machine? I've heard the HD Rumble is pretty good in it.

Also thinking about getting Mr. Shifty as it's got a fast-paced Hotline Miami look to it.

I dunno what he's talking about user, Switch can take quite a beating and still function with scratches and scuffs.

You're welcome, slut.

Literally not a single thing you say is true. Nice.

I guess this is Sup Forums so what do I expect.
Seriously though, kill yourself. I mean it.

I wouldn't mind if the joysticks and buttons were a bit farther away from each other. Shit's so claustrophobic, especially in single joycon mode.
Also those tiny ass sticks really could've used grooves to help with precise inputs.

Well, then it's got something for it I guess.
I'm not about to drop something like that though, so I prefer if it feels good. Does it? Are buttons spongey like the Wii U pro controller? Is there a gap between the screen and the plastic? Does the Joycons give slightly if you slide them out without the button?

The Switch feels absolutely premium in every way. The only thing that sucks is the dock, but whatever. The Switch itself, the joycons and the switch pro controller feel incredibly nice to hold in all aspects. The screen is beautiful, you wouldn't know it's plastic if you didn't look it up - that's because it's not the same kind of shitty plastic the 3DS had, it's some modern advanced shit.

I had a near opposite experience desu

Felt quite nice in my hands especially given the size, no manlet hands either.

While it feels solid, build quality is somewhat worse compared to other nintendo consoles, but still decent and likely no real defects will happen to your particular console in overall percentage. Inb4 crowbcuck anecdotes
The plastic stratches way too easily however if you dont put it in an actual case. The screen much less so, but just having it in your backpack isnt a good idea unless at the very least the entire pocket is empty and clean.

You can't slide the joycons once they're locked into place.

Buttons on the Joycons feel like 3DS buttons while buttons on the Switch Pro feel like a more traditional controller, except with bigger buttons and more space.

Holding it in handheld mode feels much comfier than one would expect.

It definitely feels less bulky than the Wii U gamepad.

I'd argue that Switch Pro feels much better than Wii U Pro and the only thing that they missed that could've made it the GOAT controller was lack of a headphone jack on the controller.

I'm not sure about other people, but holding the Switch on handheld mode felt really awkward. It was smaller than I thought and felt heavier than I expected for its size, and having to hold it by something that is only attached to it made it feel even more suspect. The Joy Con grip also felt really cheap with both of them attached, and the baby buttons didn't help at all. Holding them sideways is also a complete joke.
Now that I think about it my main problem with the console is the hardware, since the couple of games I played with my friends were fun.

I'm talking about very small movements. I played Mario Kart 7 on the regular 3DS and from holding the A button so much, the button is now pressed in probably ~1/2 millimeter, but still very noticable when playing.
Can you twist the system with joycons attached? Does it give at all or can you do it hard enough that it would sooner shatter?
Does any part of it creak?

Thanks a lot for answering these stupid questions.

>>The console felt like shit to me
the fuck is this supposed to mean?

Wow is this opposite day?

see

>Can you twist the system with joycons attached?

You mean bend it down the middle?

Sure, but why would you want to? To prove that it's sturdy?

The only way I could see damage to the Switch would be dropping it enough times while the joycons are attached, causing the rails on the Switch unit to bend and potentially get removed or break the lock mechanism.

Also, I've heard no creeking out of my controllers or Switch unit so far after a month of 60% handheld mode usage, 35% console mode usage and 5% tabletop mode usage.

Ah I see.
I felt the exact opposite. I was sure the Switch would feel too big and/or heavy and that the Joycons would feel small and uncomfortable, but I actually had zero problems with either.

I found it kinda funny considering I have small hands, so I thought it would be a perfect fit for me. The buttons killed me though, they had quite some room to work with but they stuck it all so close together it's not even funny.

I wanted one but as time goes on I think I'm gonna skip it until they release a better one. The plastic screen and poorly designed dock put me off of wanting the console itself, and this last nintendo direct made me feel... uhg.

same, ive learned that nintendo constantly releases new iterations of mobile platforms, and the first seems to have its issues. I'll wait for a good library and solid construction.

>Sure, but why would you want to?
Feels better if you can't. I was very disappointed with several "features" of the original 3DS, so I'm cautious now.

I want to play Mr. Shifty, but I've read It has framerate issues that cause slowdown in crowded areas even on PC. On the other hand, the devs have admitted to this and say they want to further optimize all versions of the game.

Also, I got an important part of the game spoiled by a review I read. Why the fuck would someone put spoilers in a professional review?

What I mean to say is that it won't snap if you apply pressure.

It's not made to be bent like that but doing so won't damage the unit.

Plastic screen is so it can't shatter. Just put on a $5 glass screen protector and you'll have the best of both worlds.
