Best rts for 20$
reply with which one : ^ )
Yes, wish I could zoom out more though
They are selling an RTS for 1 dollar with its dlc today on steam
should i buy company of heros or syrian warfare?
More like the best strategy game, period. Playing 2v2 bridge maps with a friend is like the ultimate comp stomp experience
>barbed wire, medic bunkers and tank traps
>MG's and mortars
>anti tank guns, artillery and panzerschrecks
THOSE SHERMANS WILL OPEN LIKE TIN CANS NOW
I don't think that counts as an RTS
>played with best friend against harest AI
>always tried to go against the odds by inserting 3 or 4 of them
>all those custom maps
>those eastern front and blitzkrieg mods
Good fucking times, I miss them.
I would agree except Men of War assquad is just way, WAY better for single player and shitting around against AI.
Best RTS at any price.
Also it was 1 dollar for like a year straight when THQ was going bankrupt.
Sega jacked the price back up again.
l have that but nigga that AINT C&C GENERALS ZERO HOUR
AOE2
i have aoe2, right now it's either syrian warfare, hearts of iron iii or company of heroes
>install Europe at War mod
>literally infinite fun
Still play that shit at least once a week.
>RTS
>turn based
EA sells the entire C&C series for $20
I really want to try Syrian warfare, looks more like MoW than CoH and that's really good
I enjoyed CoH1 but i'm a MoW fan myself
>Real time turn based strategy
How would that work?
>MOAB got used
>chemical weapons being used on civilians
What a time to be a Generalsfag.
played MoW2 pretty fun, but i can't decide whether i want another one or just get COH
That's not WC3
I felt CoH was more about counter unit than strategy, you can't do the crazy shit like blowing up a tank with a single squad survivor or win over better units because of terrain or flanking (I believe there is a bonus but it's not that noticeable)
The only strategy i remember was supressive fire
CoH has a much faster pace and it's much more simple, I prefer MoW because i'm an autist who likes to control the slightest detail of everything but CoH is cool
how do you feel about HoI3?
I've been wanting to get into Grand strategy for a while but it kinda scares me, is that a good entry tier game?
You can get CoH 1 with expansions for a lot cheaper than $20 on sales.
>Germans build fixed defenses
>Shell them into the stone age
God save the Queen.
>is that a good entry tier game?
HoI3? Uhh, it's generally considered to be the most complex and autistic GSG, so I wouldn't suggest you start with that one, but that's not to say that it's impossible. HoI2 is definitely a better entry level game
What you're describing is more tactics, really.
Strategy:
>'We need to take this bridge to secure a river crossing for our tanks'
Tactics:
>'Using smoke to cover our approach, we will split into two elements and advance on the bridge using bounding overwatch etc etc etc'
supcom, you can get the expansion pack for 4€ (base game not required) and theres an active community in FAF
I guess you're right, english is not my native language
I'll try Hol2 then
>camouflages behind your simcity
Heh... nothing personnel... kinder.
>Strategy:
>>'We need to take this bridge to secure a river crossing for our tanks'
>Tactics:
>>'Using smoke to cover our approach, we will split into two elements and advance on the bridge using bounding overwatch etc etc etc'
Not really.
Startegy is the highest level of planning abstraction. "I will play it low, build up an economy and become a world superpower."
Who they'll befriend, what they'll invest in and all that other shit is below startegy but above tactics.
Tactics is one of the lower levels of planning. For insatnce, it would be a method of securing good shares in a business.
Your example of strategy is not really either of those and your example of tactics is lower level than actual tactics which are still a higher order abstraction than field operations.
Planning is a complicated subject and its study is far more nuanced than a binary distinction between thinking selfishly and selflessly.
What about Sudden Strike 4?
Syrian Warfare
Starcraft/Brood War are free. Just got a remake too.
Online is still active apparently.
Dig in!
I thought HoI3 was easier than HoI2, or at least Darkest Hour. I could farm out a lot of stuff to the AI on HoI3 while I was learning what to do.
MOW:AS2 is better in every way though
We used to play Men of War with out regular lan group a lot but it evolved into being house rules as "everyone buys a single vehicle and had to direct control pilot it personally" which actually was very much fun, but I can't see Men of War competing as an actual strategy game. MoW is much more realistic to a fault, your squad can get mowed down by a tank's machine gun is seconds before you really have a chance to react, and they literally have no AI of their own so unless you personally micro them into cover, they just stand in the open like assholes and get shot in the face. Company is much more arcadey with even the worst soldiers having sizeable hp bars and everyone has shit accuracy, but it makes it so much more enjoyable when you dont have to micro every single thing and react to attacks in less than 3 seconds or get half a squad instantly killed.
>KRAUT MOWER, STANDING BY!
Weird then that the most popular COH mods, by far, make it so infantry and shit dies instantly.
I feel CoH has that weird balance where it's all very slow paced for the first 5-8 minutes, then Riflemen get the grenade upgrade and/or Wehr gets their first Grenadier squad/grenades doctrine and only after that you really have to keep a close eye on every battle since a single unattended grenade can fuck an entire squad up and throw the game off balance. In Men of War that same thing applies from the instant anyone on the field has an automatic weapon and it's made ten times worse with the fact that infantry really doesn't seek any kind of cover automatically, you'd really need to personally micro them into cover or they just stand there taking potshots like morons. Even in vanilla CoH though, infantry really loses their staying power after any kind of vehicles get introduced. Shit, even a Brit player building a Bren Carrier as his first unit and microing it really well can truly make Volksgrenadiers a dead unit, they cant dent the fucking thing while it just keeps chipping their HP.
how is the campaign in coh ?
I have the game since the thq bundle they sold when it went bankrupt but never played it
Most of CoH mods are made by shitters that are into compstomps and sitzkrieg.
