I am still mad about #4
We all are user, also the fact that there is no one on this board that knows this game anymore is pretty sad.
I'm going to the Bear pits tomorrow
ohh it is sad thread, why is Sup Forums like this now?
>#4
I did not even hate the contextual movement and what not. I just wish they stuck with the open level design with nothing but your tools and a shitty map. But they decided to fuck everything up and make everything linear. Like the hub world was the best part.
Also hate me for saying this but 3 was my favorite out of the series. I will never forget the spooky asylum level.
And I'm telling you the only stench haughtier than your rotting burrick of a master is the liquor in his fetid breath. If he comes near Lady Van Vernon again, we'll boil his knickers!
I discovered the Thief series too late to experience the launch of Deadly Shadows. I'm really curious whether the fanbase back then was just as mad about it as the new fanbase was about Thi4f.
Deadly Shadows wasn't bad, just not as enticing as the first 2. It had it's moments.
No jump button.
In a Thief game.
They were pretty mad. Nowhere near as mad though, since the designers really did try to make a proper Thief sequel, whereas every piece of evidence suggests that Eidos Montréal tried to make the worst game in the universe. That's the only way you can make a game where everything is wrong.
People were pretty fucking mad, but it was hyped up, we knew thief 4 was gonna be shit.
>Eidos Forums
>I make a joke about pre-animated interactions
>"next they're going to tell us there's scripted jumping only"
>Week later they announce there is only scripted jumping
OH HO! Might fine word coming from a knock kneed, inbred, page boys such as yourself!
this is a Paint concept of a mission I came up with 5 years before the announcement of that game that doesn't exist
I love Thief. Even more than Thief 2
We both know taking out the freedom of jumping at will is not what makes the thief game good. The goofy guards and level design, is what really makes it. Four did fuck up the movement but that alone did not kill the game.
...Our master Willey wouldn't be caught near that frumpy... little trollop... unless he was holding her back at the end of a halberd!
What makes Thief good is EVERYTHING: the sound system, the level design, the intuitive freedom of movement, the story, the setting and atmosphere, and much more. It all combines to make for two of the greatest games ever made.
H-how dare you defile the name of someone so good and virtuous than the lady Lady Van Vernon. Our lady is a saint among mortal women, an angle so pure the heavens couldn't hold her!
>We both know taking out the freedom of jumping at will is not what makes the thief game good.
Except that it's definitely a glaring contender. It's one of MANY problems. Fucking everything being contextual, from movement, jumping to using motherfucking rope arrows. Of fucking course level design is going to be crippled. Not even getting into the garbage-ass sound design.
present thy credentials novice
Contextual jumping/rope arrows are incompatible with the free-form level design of the old games.
BWAHHAHHA! Your lady? An angel? You're lucky the dock-side whore keeps aren't bashing down her door for stealing their clientel! Why just last night, I saw her out back... warming up the stable boy!
I agree with you. But you have to admit #4 was not THAT BAD outside of the linear level and sound design. They did at least allow you to turn off the bullshit quest markers and what not. I mean considering how the trend of games these day just holding your hand while streamlining everything. It did ok for its time. I remember being disappointed quite a bit but still had fun with the game, or at least was able to beat it. It could have been FAR worse.
>But you have to admit #4 was not THAT BAD
stopped reading there. I knew I smelled a Teef apologist.
>Fucking everything being contextual

SUCH SLANDER WILL NOT BE TOLERATED WHILE WE'RE ON WATCH. YOU BEST RUN AND HELP YOUR HELPLESS LIMP LORD BEFORE HE FLOUNDERS IN HIS OWN VOMIT, OR WAKES UP NAKED IN A HAND COUPE. SCURRY OFF! OR YOU WILL ACQUIRE SOME UNNECESSARY VENTILATION.
I was about to say at least we got another thief game. But maybe it was better to just stop after 3. To be honest I would not be totally against remakes
You sound incredibly underaged to be in this thread my man, was T4 your introduction to the series. A remake would be the exact same case as 4(Reboot).
No, I played them all. I just dont hate videogames, and got some fun out of it.
IS THAT A THREAT, YOU SHRIVELED OLD MAID? YOU'RE GONNA PRICK US WITH YOUR SEWING NEEDLES? ON THIS SIDE OF THE STREET WE SHOOT LIKE SOLDIERS! SO DON'T MAKE PROMISES YOUR ARROWS CAN'T KEEP!
We don't need remakes. If there has to be another Thief game, the devs and publisher need to sit down and really think about what Thief 1 and 2 did so well and push the stealth genre forward where Thief 2 left off. I love both T1 and T2, but the fact that after almost 20 years, these two games are still unmatched in stealth is borderline insulting.
We can talk about what they SHOULD do but we all know they wont and will only fuck it up harder. The most if any we would get from the series is probly going to be remakes and lets just hope they stay true to the originals.
And?
Outside of Tomb Raider Anniversary, has SE made a remake of a Western IP? They rebooted everything they had, and at least with Hitman, they went back to being good after Absoluteshition. Maybe Thief will be given the same chance.
Back then people were actually optimistic and thinking of interesting ideas for a fourth Thief game. Why not use some of that mechanist tech and have an underwater sneaking level where your enemies are watery things. You know, like the Kurshok Citadel was originally supposed to be until Ion Storm realized they'd need to make swimming animations.
Thief series is dead and done, 3 wrapped the story up nicely anyway. Stop fagging the thread up with wishful thinking. All these new AAA games and reboots are fucking garbage. None of those reboots even have anything in common with the originals besides the title being slapped on the cover and a few familiar names.
Thief
DmC
Tomb Raider
All shit.
...
Why? There are enough good fan missions out to not even need a 4. Then there is the Dark Mod as well.
Plenty of people on Sup Forums know about Thief mate.
...
How the hell did they come straight from Human Revolution to Taff 4 and fuck it up so badly?
Thank you for the nostalgia boner.
...
>You know, like the Kurshok Citadel was originally supposed to be until Ion Storm realized they'd need to make swimming animations.
Damn. I knew that level felt a but empty and disappointing. Imagine a remake of Kurshock Citadel in Thief 1 or 2's engine.
I still liked that mission and the little war going on under there. But it definitely needed more verticality and underwater parts.
Kinda dissapointed we didn't get more Old Quarter. The first part of the Haunted Cathedral level was my favorite, running around a ruined city full of zombies and creatures. Levels like that, and the tomb raidan are why T1 is dear to my heart.
Would like to find some FMs that are similar, I just have a hard time committing to a single FM, such an overload of what to play.
Not all of the FM's are really that great. Very difficult tech demo's and fanfics. I only like what Gabor Lux and R Soul put out. Thief 2x has a undead segment. The new FM Breathing Corpses looks like old school Down in the Bonehoard.
FM's vary. Some aren't that great but are passable, and others are just god tier and are easily better than any of the official levels.
Is the eye on the wrong side?
The original Dark Engine graphics mapped NPCs with symmetrical mirrored textures. That was fixed with Thief 2, but it probably caused problems with texture mapping. Maybe when modeling Garrett they had to choose between flipping the UV maps or flipping the texture, and they chose to flip the texture.
jtr7 knew everything about the lore and got permabanned from Eidos forums for criticizing Thi4f too much
Rescuing Cutty from the Hammers right now. I really wish there was a way to sneak through the entire game, but man, it's near fucking impossible.
It's possible but it requires a certain level of dedication

Thanks. I got through most of Bafford's manor without using the blackjack, but man, it got near impossible trying to get the scepter. That guards is impossible to sneak by.
There are two factors. Firstly, the guard only turns to face 3 of the 4 directions. Secondly, you can walk without making sound by taking steps that are so short that they fail to produce a footstep sound. You need to walk and crouch at the same time and move about 4 inches at a time.
Better than the original.
Fuck off, nostalgiafags.

Not even trying to be subtle
Reverse your position now
After all these years I think that I actually prefer 1 over 2. The spooky levels are a nice change of pace if you can expect them and The Sword is probably still the most surreal level I've played in a first person game. I love how the sudden turn to weirdness is never really explained and how it pulls all this off with only level design. GOAT environmental storytelling, great "show, don't tell" approach.
There's no sequel yet, though. The fuck are you talking about?
my waifu is made of wood. Your argument is invalid
THIEF came out in 2014. I don't get it. Are you talking about Deus Ex?
i would sure love to see this in action.
also it reminds me of TFTD night missions vibe
Try harder. In the Eidos forums there used to be a user called contrarian who managed to get many of us banned multiple times because technically based on the rules of the forum, you can't be banned for trolling, because trolls are indistinguishable from retards. You can however be banned for accusing someone of trolling. It's an ad hominem attack because the accused might actually just be retarded.
>spits circular saws at you
>says nothing
YOU'VE GON- YOU'VE GONE TOO FAR THIS TIME YOU CAMEL MANNERED TUNIC WEARING MOLLY CODDLE! AN ARROW IN THE THROAT OUGHTA SHUT YOU UP!
WWAAA!! HAVE AT THEE!
This is so fucking moronic holy shit, go fire a fucking noise arrow to draw the guy out then grab the peice of loot.
Some people are so autistic about not using any of the tools they have available.
>use the tools the developers gave me to distract guards
>or wait 8 hours for a glitch to happen in guard programming
>leaving evidence
Thi4f is literally just an action movie pretending to be a stealth game.
Also the audio issues are unforgivable
don't worry, everyone laughs at that guy's ultra-autistic "real ghosting"
The pick up up literally 2 minutes later once the guards walk back to their positions, holy shit user. Waiting around for 8 hours is LITERALLY crippling autism.
Besides using all Garrets gadgets is actually fun and the best way to play. Trying to ghost is just very boring and unfun.
DONT FORGET TO CHECK THE BODIES FOR COCK RINGS BOYS
>not playing a game for a few hours is crippling autism
And no shit it's more fun to use gadgets, you don't think he's done that a million times before?
Sitting in one spot for 8 hours is not playing a game user. He probably just idled it anyways.
Before I get some sleep, I'll leave you guys this Looking Glass interview series youtu.be
Part of what makes the trilogy so good is how each is telling the story of one faction going way out of balance
Play any great FMs lately?
The Sun Within and The Sun Without for me. Probably has some of the best secrets/easter eggs I've ever found, on top of just being a kick ass mission. Highly recommended
Hence why I said
>not playing a game
I played through the L'Arsene quadrilogy lately and had fun.
3 > 4 > 2 > 1
Going to be trying The Black Frog soon since it's by the same creator and is apparently a sequel to part 2 (Emile Victor). Sup Forums's Thief fan mission image has part 4 (The Den) in it but not 3 (The Korrigans) which I thought was the better FM.
How much do you think Constantine pays his guards in order to have them walk around a 50x scale replica of a room?
They're just apemen with some magic sprinkled on them. He doesn't need to pay them anything.
He pays them in bananas.
RECEIVE THY POUNDING
Nah, Nah. You couldn't pinch my nipples hard enough.
Garrett was actually modeled in Thief 2?
I would have thought they used the same DromED brown box
I just found the secret lair of the Keepers in the "Haunted Cathedral" level, do I really have to go back through the city with that fucking map getting talismans?
You never threw the scout orb into a corner to get a good look at yourself?
Gotta have something when you look at yourself with a scouting orb
What was his endgame?
I always forget about scouting orbs.
Pleasing the master builder.
Each talisman will be its own level
Ruling a world of robots
Basically Hitler but more autistic
