The Switch is now the fastest selling Nintendo system in history and it did so in March, not a holiday release like the Wii or Wii U. This is also despite the supply being heavily limited. You can stop shitposting about the Switch failing now, thank you.

Also, another detail that's worth noting. The Switch has sold more in MARCH than the Wii U sold in both November and December, combined.

The Nintendo Switch was released on March 3, meaning it sold nearly 1 million units in its first 29 days of availability. For context, Microsoft moved more than 2 million Xbox One units in its first 18 days of availability while Sony moved 2.1 million PlayStation 4 units in that console’s first 14 days, according to CNBC.

The Xbox One and PS4 both launched in the holidays which is a massive boost to sales. Why the Switch's numbers are so impressive is that it did them in March. This thing is going to move 5-6 million in the holidays with Odyssey and Christmas sales/black Friday bundles.

You know why Nintendo decided to launch in March? So that they won't have to compete directly against Sony and Microsoft.

I bought a Wii U fairly early on (although in all honesty, buying a Wii U at all is a huge sign of being a rabid Nintendo fan) and I camped for over 6 hours for a Switch. I love Nintendo a lot, but Nintendo has yet to prove whether it can compete with other platforms

They launched in March because they want to have two big spikes year one with Zelda and then later Mario.

Yeah, that's good and all but no games

As Nintenbro as this sounds , this is actually accurate. Mario holiday is gonna be big numbers.

Another interesting statistic is that Zelda actually sold more than the console. Some people bought Zelda without a Switch. It has a literal more than 100% attach rate.

Didn't i hear something like this before?

Only in the US sadly. In Japan the game has a "pitiful" attach rate of 79%.

I believe this is part of why they launched in March.
Switch will be in the public view again when Mario releases. Launching the Switch in Nov with BotW and Mario might've made a huge wave in sales but this seems to be working well so far.

Mario Kart 8's trailer on youtube has 3 million views. Mario Odyssey's trailer is gonna be at 20 million in a few days, and over 25 million by the time it launches. There's a pretty big difference in interest here.

Sure thing my dude

More importantly, you should see the PS4 vs Xbone comparison. Both sold comparatively well in the first holiday season, but Xbone got fucking trounced by the PS4 later on. Initial sales literally doesn't fucking matter.

FAKE NEWS

reported

>"the switch is the fastest selling Nintendo system in history and is more than twice as unpopular as a playstation or xbox"

>"THE SWITCH IS THE FASTEST SELLING NINTENDO SYSTEM IN HISTORY"

also the fastest a console got shitposted to hell and proven to be not worth the money. Nintendo survives on legacy alone, and they're slowly destroying even that attachment.

Aren't those global numbers vs US numbers?

Has Nintendo announced ANY indication of interest in implementing a save backup feature?

Sure but it still doesn't change the fact it's exactly what's going on here. Their two biggest IPs (mainline games mind you) coming out within the same year of each other , they're gonna make bank. I don't know what the numbers will be ...really who the fuck knows but there's no way they're not gonna benefit from this in some form.

More info. Switch basically sold the same as Xbone and the Xbone launched in a holiday lmao.

They're US numbers, PS4 Europe launched later and Japan didn't get it until Feb.

>also the fastest a console got shitposted to hell and proven to be not worth the money
Doesn't change the fact that it's still selling well. The majority of people buying the switch aren't factoring Sup Forums shitposts on their purchase.

>Wii that low
I know they were faggots about supply but I find that hard to believe.
>GC did better than Wii first month
Bullshit

>all dat sonybro crying

It's worth remembering the Wii sold very well in Europe and these are US numbers

the majority of people buying the switch are americans, because scalpers are american. It's unpopular in the EU and even Japan.

also confusing sales to consumers with shipped units, which the latter counts as a sale for Nintendo.

It's definitely popular in Japan. Virtually all shipped are sold.

The difference being that Mario 3D World released a whole year after the Wii U's launch while Mario Kart 8 released two years after the console's fate was sealed.

>Even Japan

This is wrong and you know it.

>It's unpopular in the EU
Source? Fucking liar.
>Japan
Bullshit, its selling great there

It's sold out everywhere with money. Of course there are shitholes like Poland where the console is 1/3 of a monthly wage, it's not doing too well there.

Better games than the ps4 had at one month into its launch.

I just want to contextualize how amazing this is. People always talk about how the Wii u "had a great launch but then fell off hard." The Switch sold twice as much as the Wii U in the first month in March instead of the holiday season. This could honestly be Nintendo's best selling console ever. It's gonna be a tough fight with the DS, but the potential is there.

How much do you think the Superb Owl commercial helped raise awareness?

i laugh out loud when i read posts like this that even aim to imply the switch is anything but garbage

Nintendo NEEDS to pull a Sony and announce games not due out for 2 years or more, they just need to secure deals with fat stacks of moolah for 3rd party exclusives and ports and ANNOUNCE THEM AT E3

The switch will follow wiiu playbook

>Step 1: sell consoles
>Step 2: sell Mario re-re-re-re-re-remake
>Step 3: sell accessories
>Step 4: discontinue online
Goto step1

Nintendoe doesn't make games and nobody makes games for Nintendo's shit specs so nintendo has no game.

Good for Ninty, hope they can keep momentum.

I'm not all that surprised though, it's a really nice system (and very 'not-Nintendo'-like, if that makes sense).

It's amazing how many sonybros there are in this thread who just outright lie or question readily verifiable numbers to try and pretend the Switch isn't doing well. Are you guys seriously out of real reasons to mock it already?

ladies and gentleman ! stupidity at its finest .

This actually happened with the 3DS too. There was constant shitposting about how it would fail for X reason. It didn't start to die down for 2 years. It's even stupider here though because this is selling better than the 3DS, and has a much brighter holiday season coming than the 3DS did.

I really want a Switch for Zelda, but I'm gonna wait a year or two when there are some good bundles and they iron the kinks out, also would love a no dock SKU, I'll probably never hook it up to my TV.

I was feeling the same way but Zelda and Splatoon 2 got me too hyped so I'm gonna have to buy it. I'm really fucking salty Nintendo is charging for online now but I think Splatoon2 is worth it. The siege mode pushed me over the edge.

Switch isn't worth it. Just get a new smartphone.

Or get a smartphone from 2015 for essentially the same specs with way more functionality than a Switch, and a quarter of the price.

Or get a PS4. or a new videocard for a PC. or save it for the Xbox scorpio.

or get an Nvidia Shield and save $100.

There is basically no reason to buy a switch, especially at the price they're asking.

I am buying a Switch because I want to play Zelda and Splatoon, and then later Mario, Pokemon, Monster Hunter and Animal Crossing. A smart phone and a PS4 don't have any of that shit. I might buy a PS4 in the future when it gets cheaper though. It's finally starting to get good games this year.

There are no smartphones that can compete with the Switch's specs. You are lying to yourself or just retarded if you actually believe this.

At the "price they're asking" Nintendo is making a maximum of $37 profit and that's if they don't include shipping fees etc. per Switch. It's been officially confirmed that a single Switch costs $257 to manufacture.

Not the person you're replying to, but Splatoon 2 and the promise of playing Mario Odyssey during the holidays makes the $300 investment seem worthwhile, shit specs be damned

>There is basically no reason to buy a switch, especially at the price they're asking.
The Swtich cost 250 to manufacture.

You're comparing US numbers for the Switch to global numbers for the other consoles.

Once again, there are no mobile phones or consoles with better specs than the Switch that are even close to its price point. There is no such thing as an "X2" and no, Pascal is not in mass production at an affordable rate for any mobile device. The Switch has the best hardware you can possibly get at its price point.

I could've made an even bigger screencap of people saying the Switch was gonna fail and sell less than the Wii U.

So much delusion in so few words

With no games and no future. Weird.
Not doing as good as the PS4 though, so I imagine it won't get much worthwhile games.

They are dogmatic, antiquated corporation that does the minimal amount of work in order to generate the maximum profit. Just look at Wii U. A few gems with mainly rehashes again and again. They didn't fully finish the system (Because they were ditching it) didn't price drop, nothing. They just shoved it under the rug and started on an optimised version of it whilst trying to milk as much as they could from it. The refined version itself is limited, broken, unfinished and if you have been playing games the last 20 years, almost devoid of games. It has, in 2017, 32 GB of storage that you almost certainly need to augment at retail cost. The online is through a fucking phone app it seems , let alone not even being there at launch.

>Recommending people to get a smartphone
But they want to play video games, user.

The PS4 may do better overall, but that will be because of Europe. It's gonna sell a lot more than the PS4 in Japan, so it should get Japanese games. It's already got Senran Kagura and Fate garbage announced for it.

>Objective facts
>Delusions

Pick one

PS4 still hasn't gotten any worthwhile games after 4 years, so I guess they'll be pretty equal if that's the case.

BotW is a shit non-game and also available on the Wii U, Splatoon 2 is just Splatoon with a 2 after it on a different console with no crossplay, Mario doesn't come out til december, and no Pokemon or MH or AC games have been announced for it - 2018 earliest, 2019 probably.

Switch will never be a decent console, and a good game will never save it. Even if you're in boat that BotW isn't tripe garbage, it sure as shit didn't save the Wii U - and that's despite being a panned masterpiece 10/10 game.

It's destined for the dumpster. Save your money, friend. I remember wanted to get a dreamcast when I was younger and got my hand on my first $200, but was talked out of it. I'm glad i was, because the game I wanted it for eventually came to the Xbox except upgraded and expanded, and much later got a dreamcast for $20 off Amazon to play the other gems it had.

Not true user, the PS4 has like 4 games now. Nier, Nioh, Bloodborne and Persona.

a-alternative facts! delete this!!

It is for now

Splatoon 2 has an entirely new way to play with the siege mode, an entirely new single player campaign, new weapons, stages, cosmetic options, etc. and the graphics are better even though it isn't a huge leap.

Why do people keep using the Holidays as a big standout?
Most consoles release with competition. Nintendo had none.
Most consoles have competing audiences, the Switch only appeals to Nintendo fans

It literally released in a dead zone with a game that was advertised for years and still didn't do that well.

What happens when it hardly does better in the winter? 5 to 6 million lmao

D-Delete this!!

Is this all you have left? Pretending the massively successful games are bad? Genuinely pitiful

Just cause Nintendo doesn't know how to build a product doesn't mean it's worth it.

The Nvidia Shield is a better spec device in every way except 2 fewer gigs of ram, and $100 cheaper.

The Switch's processor only runs at 1.02GHz max, docked. It's not fast enough for GC or Wii emulation, and it's not fast enough for ports of PS3 games - nevermind PS4, nevermind that the gen of PS4 and Xbone is almost over and we're going to get even better consoles soon.

It's a handheld first a foremost, and as a handheld is pales in utility to any smartphone released in the past 5 years, and only rivals specs of smartphones released 2 years ago which can now be owned for a one time $30 price when bought with a major carrier service plan.

Switch is fucking garbage.

You could say all the same things about the 3DS and the Switch sold twice as much as the 3DS did at launch.

>why do people think things sell more when consumers go on a massive buying binge?

Are you actually retarded? Are you seriously going to try and argue that it wouldn't have sold more in its initial launch if they'd done it in December? This is a level of stupid way beyond normal

>massively successful
>sold 300k in japan
>maybe over 1m in america+eu

The 3DS is Nintendo's worst selling portable and received a $70 price cut in its first year. Judging by its shit library, i'd say this is all deserved.

>and it's not fast enough for ports of PS3 games
Are you retarded? Even the Wii U got PS3 ports and the Wii U was weaker than the Switch.

fuck nintendo.

Is this all you have left? Pretending that terrible games are massively successful? Genuinely pitiful

>playing games on a phone with no buttons
Is this bait or are you legitimately retarded?

>It's not fast enough for GC or Wii emulation
lol what the fuck are you talking about. My previous laptop that had a fucking pentium was able to emulate gamecube at a good frame rate. I swear I read the dumbest shit here.

>im buying a console for games that arent even announced
Spot the autistic fanboy

A 102% attach rate is objectively a success. By every objective measure the Switch is succeeding. I'm sorry that hurts your feelings

The Wii U is not weaker than the switch.

lol.

Breath of the Wild sold 1.3 million in the US alone.

You think? Then why no Japanese games that aren't just old ports?

Stay delusional kiddo.

Honestly surprised. I'd like to see more graphs though. For Japan, Europe, WW, and how it does over time compared to Wii/DS.

Well shit son you better explain to me how they magically got Mario Kart 8 and Fast Racing NEO to run twice the resolution as their Wii U counterparts.

>You think? Then why no Japanese games that aren't just old ports?
There are a few others. Disagaea and Dragon Quest and also that Tetris thing. I doubt companies expected this level of success though. I would expect more announcements at E3 just as Fate garbage and Senran were announced at the last direct.

>hurts my feelings
Stop projecting. I want it to succeed and have good games.
Just read about it.

I dont recall the 3DS getting this heavy handed advertising at the superbowl etc.

There are better things to buy though. No average consumer will waste money on a shitty tablet that has no games.

that's 1 million more than Japan, probably than europe too.

MHXX sold 1.3 million in japan and was released two and a half weeks after BotW.

and monster hunter games aren't even good.

Holy shit I can't believe Sonyfags are actually this mentally disabled

2017 phones can't even process MK8DX at 720p much less 1080p 60fps and you think that the Switch is weaker than 2015 phones? Your dumbass is delusional as fuck

The Nvidia Shield is running a fucking K1 and can't even play a 2013 game, it has to literally stream PS3 games like a Vita. Christ, this is mindblowing how fucking retarded you people are.

What success? Its doing worse than the Xbox One.

reducing the graphical quality. Same way they got BotW to run on the Switch, or rather - same way they made the Switch version look decent when even the Wii U version has shit graphics and loading times compared to other Wii U games.

Obviously Nintendo deliberately held back games on the WiiU to make the Switch look good. Come on guy this is SO OBVIOUS!

It's doing roughly the same and the Xbone released in the holidays.

Didn't you hear? There's no reason to believe the holidays affect sales?

Who decided this? You, I'm guessing?

So what happens when this fails, like it most likely will.
What's next? Nintendo is such a minor and insignificant player in videogames, I wonder if they will just stick to toys and mediocre portables.

This is only the Switch version. Wii U is selling about 1/3 the rate of the Switch, so I'd say that Wii U sales are at about ~400k right now in the US. Attach rates for Japan are 79% so they've sold about 500k copies of BotW Switch edition, meaning they've probably sold ~170k copies of the Wii U version.

USA + Japan for Wii U and Switch sales combined would probably be around 2.4 million sales at minimum. Most of the Switch sales are only constrained by actual hardware supply right now too, since US Zelda sales were 1.2 million for Switch on launch day.

>Nvidia Shield can stream PS3 games
>Switch can't even run downgraded ports of PS3 games at 60fps

seriously, there are games you can look at /right now/ that show that the Switch is already maxed out. It's barely better than a PSVita.

It's Nintendo being Nintendo once again, releasing last gen hardware pretending they're doing anything good for the industry.

>reducing the graphical quality.

I can't believe the shit that's spouted from people who don't even do a modicum of research.
