What the fuck is with gaming journos giving this game shit for not having gay options? Do they not get that this is a Japanese game influenced by Japan's cultural values?

They don't know how persona works.

So I've played this game on and off over the years and finally finished it on the weekend. It's actually a fantastic game that I loved, but it kept taking me out of it with really weird and creepy stuff.

First off there's a lot of perversion/harassment in many situations especially regarding male advances on the female characters that is just outright creepy. Sneaking into their rooms at night? Trying to grope them at every opportunity? The fuck. There's no consequences and it's always just laughed off. Add in the fact they're all high schoolers and the way the game sexualizes a lot of them is just really awkward.

To be clear I'm not overly sensitive or in any way against exploring sexual content or themes in games...I understand it's a big part of adolescent life too. It's the way it's handled here that just kinda made me feel uneasy in parts.

Was this ever a controversy? Or am I just totally out to lunch here?

Tbqh senpai I wanted to fuck yusuke

leftists don't really believe in "cultural marxism" OP, it's more of a cultural imperialism. They don't give a shit about japan

I thought the meme of thinking developers are going to cater to your every shitty selfish "need" was dead?

It's not a complaint they use on a franchise that's too big to step on.

Yes we know neogaf is full of morons now fuck off.

>cultural imperialism.

my favorite kind

Shame that they were more willing to cross that line during the PS1 era to be quite honest. Nearly did it with Yosuke in 4, and Akechi had some overtones, but I guess success has made them reticent to take risks.

Probably more like the creators see no reason to, or don't think they have the ability to properly tackle the subject. I've heard they put a different director in charge for P3P's FeMC route for the same reason, though I could be wrong about that.

As much as I'd like to romance Mishima and Ryuji, the fact that I can't doesn't subtract my love for this game.

It has nothing to do with "cultual values" they are just appealing to the largest demographic who buy these games.

If it would have sold significantly more they would have added gay stuff without any moral reservations. They just probabably didn't think it would.

I'd romance him if I could. Best boy.
Mishima was quite cute as well.
But Makoto would still the best.

Welp so why isn't there a femc and why aren't there lesbian social links?

Because more options is fun, and including romancable males isn't too much of stretch given previous gay characters and fujoshi pandering in P3P.

would everyone wanting all these extra options not mind the game being in development for another two years

i think only gamedev people can truly understand how long a FEMC addition would take. it would change literally everything about how the game played out, considering the game is designed around the MC being a male.

not to mention then the nuance then required of having your characters being able to be gay and straight.

Japan is racist and sexist and their society is so shit they all want to kill themselves.

FEMC would take a really long time do make and too expensive for it to be worth.
A gay option wouldn't be that hard. You could have people react to your sexuality, and it would take some dev time, but just having a a male slink that end in dating would be just as simple as any other slinks.

>One dialog option
>Turned into a creepy Yandere as a joke
>People constantly drag Jun up like he was the pinnacle of LGBT

If that's what they wanted from ATLUS they would have been suprised.

>Do they not get that this is a Japanese game influenced by Japan's cultural values?
>not knowing there are gay rights being fought in Japan

>Not knowing that they are entirely ignored
>Not knowing that as long as you shut the fuck up, you can do whatever you want to whatever hole behind the privacy of your own homes walls.

I thought that one thing that Ann said was a bit homophobic

>(something about Yusuke's interest is not in the opposite sex)
>Ann: What?!?
>Yusuke: Is something wrong?
>Ann: Not really...

Thought it was a bit weird. But he becomes a party member so I don't think the developers meant bad intentions.

diversity except when it's not 'our' social norms
aka fucken backwards xenophobe japs get with the program

because sjw trash talk won't affect japanese games or their future, that's why they only use that strategy on western games.

This is what happens when normalfags get their grips on anything.

Literally, and I mean LITERALLY,everything becomes shit when it gets popular. It's not contrarianism it's just the law of the universe. This happens with every single form of entertainment.

It's weird but they're exactly like the Americans people make fun of in movies and shit. The ones who think that America = The World. That all of their problems, cultural fights and whatever are universal. Failing to realise Japan's biggest problem is it's own rigid class system, and they have more to worry about and try to teach their kids then what a demi fluid gender is or whatever.

they just need to add FeMC and then reach the largest fanbases;
like a girl? pick the dude
like a dude? pick the girl

>inb4 i need to identify with my gender/fluid/shit so lets change the MC to other so...
finite resources

>you will never hatefuck ryuuji

>tfw no female MC.
>tfw no lesbian Kawakami route.

Maybe in half a decade when the redux comes out.

They're just idiots who've been trained by Bioware games to regard every RPG protagonist as a generic lump of clay with no defined characteristics, including sexuality. I don't have any issues with Bioware letting you romance whoever, but it doesn't make a protagonist being canonically straight a bad thing

SJWs basically have the exact same mindset as their christian fundamentalist parents in terms of hatred of sex and sexuality, violent media, and thinking that the entire world should be just like America. They dress it up in different motivations but the reality is if you brought them back to the Jack Thompson/Hillary Clinton banning GTA days, they'd completely side with them

I've got almost a pavlovian response to the words 'creepy' and 'gross' by now because every time I see it it's some fucking idiot complaining about a piece of media offending them rather then ever devoting any energy to solving any kind of problem in the real world

Yusuke is essentially built up to be asexual.
Priortising the beauty of art over sexualisation.

It's a game about critiquing Japan's 'cultural values' you fucking idiot. By not providing a gay romance option and including multiple homophobic "jokes", they failed at what they set out to do. The writing is pretty awful too.

> hatefucking cutest boyo

user you only hatefuck Goro

You're probably baiting, but do you not realize it's possible for someone to dislike corruption in those with authority, people abusing their positions of power like teachers and politicians and such, without being gay or having gay friends or whatever? The two aren't inherently connected in any way, and the only real reason you'd think that is buying into bullshit intersectionalism
