Did anyone honestly beat this game completely blind? I just beat Orn and Smough, cleared New Londo only to keep dying trying to jump into the Abyss. Was finally forced to look up a guide just to know how to proceed. Turns out you have to beat Sif first. On top of that, based on what I'm reading, I'm somehow severely under leveled (lvl 50) compared to most people at this point in the game. Do most people grind? And how do you know where to go without guides? Everytime I talk to an NPC they send me in the wrong direction. What am I doing wrong?

Levels don't matter if you git gud.
Where are you getting lost?

I'm wondering how I was supposed to know to go to Sif before New Londo. I want to know what I did wrong.

I'll give that it is confusing at times. I don't remember who or if anyone tells you about the ring to walk the abyss

95% of Sup Forums used a guide to beat this game atleast once or twice and if they say they didnt they are just lying faggots trying to save face. The game is very obscure sometimes and gives very minimalist directions.

I used a guy to know which area to tackle next because I stumbled around in the catacombs for like 4-6 hours for no fucking reason. Great game but also fucking obtuse.

I bet you think zelda 1 and 2 are impossible without a guide too faggot. I don't get how people think you need guides to beat so many games now.

yep i beat all games blind and solo also i don't think your underleveld you should be around lvl 70 when you beat the game

I think I fought Sif because I went to explore the forest before going to new londo, not because I knew I had to.
I farmed and leveled up to defeat the gargoyles

If we're being honest here I didn't even play Dark Souls until I had memorized the guide. My friend bought the game and the guide, and while he was playing I poured over the guide over and over, I was enamored by it. He hated the game and passed it on to me and I've been a rabid fan ever since. Sure, it's the most casual entrance into Souls I'm sure but I went in blind on every other game including DeS.

I beat Zelda 1 without a guide when i was a little kid. The games aren't even comparable. You can beat zelda in an hour.

How did you know where to go? Did you just keep checking every area?

Have fun with the invisible path ways

>you hear about artorias from the cat
>go to his grave
>kill dog
>drops ring that says you can now traverse abyss
I guess the only tricky thing is knowing that the hole in new londo is the way to the abyss, but besides that you're told everything if you pay attention.

Where the fuck is the cat?

yea man these games are all about exploring i mean that's what i do search every nook of the area, i remember finding the hydra and thought i wonder whats behind it that's how i found the back of the forest

DS1 ng+ is some real shit. I'm not sure on how the numbers look, but later entries take 3 or 4 ngs to provide noticeable differences in challenge.

the one that lets you join the forest covenant. you're almost funneled there if you use the crest of artorias you get from andre.

I did the first time, then i read about the npc "quests" that i completely missed and wondered how the fuck would you even figure out the chain of events blind.

ingward tells you to seek out artorias when he gives you the key to the seal

Op here. Ahh ok I do remember that but the way he phrased it I thought I would meet him at the abyss.

50 isn't underleveled. there's no such thing, once you've reached the basic requirements for the equipment you want to use you don't need to level anymore. weapon scaling is nice but blacksmiths will make them much more effective than they ever need to be. also ingward tells you about the abyss when he gives you the key to the seal, you weren't paying close enough attention, that's your fault not the game's.

Yeah, the way NPCs are handled is cool but they stick them in places you would never look on your first or even second play through. They should have just been kept by bonfires and bosses.

The sieg and maiden quests are pretty easy to complete without knowing them. The solaire line is some bizarre shit

Not him but if you get stuck at an area the obvious thing to do is go somewhere else. Leave the area, eventually fight sif and get the ring that says "traverse the abyss" which should remind you to go back there.

Im fine with this type of thing. Metroid games for instance are filled with this type of thing. Personally i wish more games did it but i understand a lot of people find it frustrating.

Im expecting someone to reply to every post in this thread saying "hurr soul drones defending bs"

the game doesn't explain what the abyss is or that it's a place you will go to or that there is a boss there or anything at all.

Only time I 'cheated' was to find out that you could run past the dragon bridge near sun bro. After that it was relatively easy though, because I realised I could run past pretty much every enemy I encountered.

I knew that, but still might be a bit confusing. you would just need to assume that the fog gate is probably the point to use the ring since there's nothing else there.

Why does dark souls 2 looks so ugly?

caught be the reverse mimic. A classic.

They forgot to turn Fullbright off.

They had a high end lighting engine and then dropped for a much simpler one at the very last minute.
Why do you think there are so many unlit torches in very bright zones.

I think the line of thought they were expecting was
>Artorias, where have I seen that name before
>Crest of Artorias and/or Wolf Ring, both related to Darkroot Garden
>I should investigate that area further before proceeding here
Obviously not everyone thinks the same way, but it's not exactly rocket science either. Ingward tells you pretty plainly that you won't be able to challenge the Four Kings unless you find a way to traverse the abyss.

How would you beat this game blind? Can blind people even play video games?

What's bullshit is trying to get into the DLC without knowing you need some sort of doll thing from the dukes library. fuck that

itt: Sup Forumsirgins defending playing dark souls games with walkthroughs and guides
pathetic

the guy who gives you the key to the new londo seal LITERALLY tells you that you need the covenant of artorias in order to enter the abyss. Andre sells an item that has artorias in it, the description of which says it opens the door in darkroot garden. Theres a giant glowing door in darkroot garden.
what more do you want?

because its piss ugly

Once i learned some npc could die or live i spoiled myself a lot of questchaind to try to save the most i could.
i read about the artorias ring but i cant remember how because im sure as fuck i wasnt searching how to enter the abyss

>imlpying you beat it without using a guide or asking any questions
You know this is anonymous right? You dont have to pretend to be le hardcore GAMUR.

I beat it blind OP. Avoided dying for the most part and if something stopped me from going one direction I'd just turn around and explore somewhere else. Grinding isn't necessary as most bosses can be beaten without taking damage. Just dump points into your main attack stat until ~50 and you're good.

>Everytime I talk to an NPC they send me in the wrong direction
What? Every NPC that tells you to do something usually knows what they're talking about. Hell, the first dude you talk to tells you to go ring the fucking bells, once you do that they even give you a cutscene telling you to go to the fortress. Then one of the world snakes tells you what to do to beat the game. The only time NPC's "lie" to you is that big illusion bitch in Anor Londo and her brother, oh and Kingseeker. Fuck that guy though.

yes ingward does tell you about the abyss, and he mentions that you should learn from artorias, who you've already heard of if you've spoken to andre of astora, or even perused his inventory.

i didnt
it took me 300 hours and multiple game cycles
that's how you're supposed to play the game, you shitstain

The fact that the entire world of DaS1 is interconnected is a really nice touch and it's impressive how they pulled it off. But there were times where I honestly wasn't sure where I was supposed to go next. If you go somewhere and you are under leveled you just think "well this game's hard" and think nothing of it. I eventually broke down and started referencing a guide for the sake of having an in order list of locations.

People bash DaS3 for being linear, and it is, but linear isn't bad. The game has a natural sense of progression and doesn't feel horribly linear because of the amount of exploring you can do.

>inb4 git gud

>i didnt
Say that enough times and maybe you will start believing yourself.

Only reason its difficult is because people probably didnt expect to have to actually pay attention to shit and read character dialogue. Its not just useless fluff like in most other modern games.

NPCs don't tell you where to go, they tell you where to continue their storyline.

Ds3 is pretty bad. Happy that its the last in the series, because From really doesnt know what to do with the series anymore.

feel free to not believe me, you cuckstain
i gain nothing from your belief, you're the one who played the game while being handheld by a guide, and probably also summoning and pulling the plug with invaders

>you cuckstain
Daww is it past your bed time user? You should get some sleep, its a school night and you sound a little cranky that no one is buying into your LE HARDCORE GAMUR facade. Better luck next time

>ekss deee past you bed time :^))))
you surely can do better
come on, one more try
maybe it will work now

>Did anyone honestly beat this game completely blind?
I'll admit it, I did have to look up how weapon upgrading works because the game never really explained it very well.

>its a school night
nigga it's friday

the most important thing in Dark Souls.
explore, well that and dodging

Oh shit you're right it is friday. Shit i totally have work tommorow. No wonder the emo kid could stay up so late to shitpost

Dawwwww look how upset he is, trying so hard to seem like hes ok to. Its ok user, your secret is safe with us

>shitposting this hard pretending to be in charge
do you feel in charge?

I dont think iv ever met someone so autistic that they unironically used the term "in charge" when referring to a thread on a mongolian chop squad knitting forum. Jesus christ whats wrong with you?

oh wow, you called me autistic
does this give you power over me?

Did anyone else fail to notice the stairs leading up to the undead settlement when they first got to firelink shrine?
I went to the graveyard and would just end up getting overpower by the skeletons for an hour then I just told myself I was done with this broken game
It wasen't until my brother started to play the game that the path was behind me the entire time

Saturday shifts suck, hope your day goes by quick

I ended up ringing the bell in Blighttown first and then somehow ended up in Tomb of Giants on my first playthrough. I just assumed the game was supposed to be tits hard from the start. Firelink was a great starting area desu, love how many directions you could choose to go in.

i saw the staircase when i was looking around at the bonfire but i didn't see how to get to it, and i decided to go to the cemetery first. i spent about 40 minutes getting my ass plugged there before turning around and exploring some more.

I only sort of used a guide.
I figured out where to go and what to do on my own. When I looked stuff up, it was to see weapon stats as you upgrade them. Even then it didn't really change what I was using, I beat my first run with a halberd and a black knight sword that I got lucky enough to drop.
I know a lot of people get annoyed at missing the painted world, and some finish without knowing you can go back to the asylum, but I figured that out on my own, so it's definitely possible.
I think the idea that you were "supposed" to go in completely blind and figure everything out by yourself is dumb though, considering the game gives you an in game way of communicating with other players. I never would have found at least two bonfires without soapstone messages.

...

Shut the fuck up both of you are retarded children shitting up the thread with your slap fight

It is not a doll, it's an amulet. I think it's supposed to keep newbs from getting stuck inside a zone where they are severely underleveled and without resources

you tried hard but you ultimately failed
another internet argument won, i guess
you're welcome :^)

...

I finished that game without knowing where the fuck i was supposed to go and what the fuck am is supposed to do. You did nothing wrong except not read item descriptions and not talk to NPC's enough

keep fucking memeing me, you memelord
taste your defeat as i taste my victory

True, but necessary items are never purchased so a lot of people don't buy it. The alternative route is a bit hidden

...

>approach Four Kings' tower
>long staircase covered in messages

>Ring ahead
>Ring required
>Try ring
>Death ahead therefore ring

>hmm what does this mean
>must be nothing la la la
>die
>WTF

i'm here all night, baby
what about you?

are you guys proud of this?

Sorry my mommy and daddy dont pay for my stuff i got work in the morning.

It's weird that there's this stigma about using a guide for a game that built in a mechanic to help players cope with getting stuck or not knowing what to do

Yeah but nothing tells you were the grave is, and even when you arrive it doesn't even show that its artorias's grave, we just have to assume it is

you're right, go work for me and make me earn 4 times the amount of money i give to you as a token of true serfdom
again, do you feel in charge?

>When I looked stuff up, it was to see weapon stats as you upgrade them. Even then it didn't really change what I was using, I beat my first run with a halberd and a black knight sword that I got lucky enough to drop.
damn same right down to the weapons used, but I had a pirated version so no steam and no messages so I think it's more warranted

also now that I know more about the community, people were crunching the game down together from the beginning. that's just from watching a bit of epicnamebro's initial play through of it.

andre tells you where the grave is, and he sells the crest of artorias, a round insignia. and when you go into the darkroot garden you will see a giant glowing door with a round insignia in the middle. when you arrive at the grave, the boss fight begins, and you get the covenant when you win. so what's the problem? you cant muster up 20,000 souls for the crest?

>that's how you're supposed to play the game, you shitstain
Yes thank you for giving me the exact way the game should be played, I hadn't thought to play it like that until you so bluntly informed me, how humbled I feel in knowing I've been playing it wrong the entire time

>do you feel in charge?
The fact that you think anyone but gook moot is "in charge" of anything on Sup Forums shows just how emotionally and intellectually immature you are. Its pretty sad desu.

The cat says something along the lines of "You came here to look for the grave of Artorias? Well uh, it's totally not even real, get lost."
If that doesn't trigger your exploration desire, you're playing the wrong game. And also, if you find the grave, no one's going to look at it and think "that's probably not where I'm supposed to be" and turn around.
They're going to go in, get killed by Sif, and then fell compelled to beat the boss. And that's all you need to beat Dark Souls, the desire to prove you can beat the bosses and the desire to explore.

what's cringier, you not recognizing baneposting or me trying to stiffle up your spirits with expired stale memes?

i'm not done with my blind playthrough yet but aside from spending like an hour trying to get to the catacombs before discovering the "intended first path", i haven't had much trouble

would never have found the dlc without a friend prompting me about it though

the orange soapstone notes from other players help a lot
except when they goad you into jumping into an instant death pit, that's just mean

I wish i had

I try to drop "liar ahead" for that sort of shit but damn do people tell you to jump off cliffs a lot

>you not recognizing baneposting
You think anyone wouldn't realize the exact moment of an overrated movie you were referencing the first time you posted it? Jesus christ you must truly be autistic.

youtube.com/watch?v=3C_BubeBU8E

Baneposting stopped being funny about... 3 years ago?

Oh God, the DLC entrance is obtuse as fuck. First, save this NPC that doesn't really do much. Second, progress through the game normally until you get the Lordvessel. Then, kill an enemy that now drops an item.
Now, you take that item BACK to where you rescued the NPC, despite the NPC now being in a different location. Does anyone know if Dusk even has dialogue about the broken pendant? I'm pretty sure she doesn't.

>Did anyone honestly beat this game completely blind?
No, nobody did this.

>i a-actually knew what you were talking a-about!
>c-counter t-trolled!11 h-heehee1!1
the crrriiingggeee

there's so many notes about it that it feels like i use prism stones more than estus
...but only "feels like", obviously

and prism stones mislead you like 50% of the time too

Having put up with you and for the near entirety of the thread, I can safely say that your posts () come off as far more desperate than the shithead you're arguing with. Just fucking go to bed or get your jollies off of some other poor sap that isn't actually right about how fucking sad your life it

No whats truly cringy is the fact you dont realize everyone and their mother saw TDR when it came out 5 years ago. People ignore your autistic references because once again baneposting stopped being funny about 3 years ago and the only people who still do it are children coming from 9gag or knowyourmeme or some other cancerous board.

For the last time, stop posting. Its gotten so past embarassing for you that im physically cringing at your posts

No, on my first play through i went through the door, then when i saw where i ended up i just assumed it was a shortcut, not the rest of the game ahead, and it wasn't until wayyy later that i actually found out the boss was deeper in the fpeest

But I didn't fucking find the cat until I thought to go deeper into the woods, I thought the area through the door just wrapped around to the rest of darkroot

But you found it eventually, no?

Arrows are a good fallback for prism stones in a pinch and seem to be more reliable in my experience. They stick around for a little bit so you can see if there's a hidden path or ledge pretty easily.

>stop posting old memes!1!!
>you triggered me but you dont, ha checkmate :DDD
>muh 9gag knowyourmeme sekrit club
>stop p-posting!111 y-you're p-pissing me o-off!!111
make me, faggot :^)

Did you find the hydra etc?
