I'm new to monster hunter , should I play this game first?

sure

Start with 4U, its the most beginner friendly, while also being the best in the series (IMO).

It depends. How much do you value fully functional hands?

n-nani

Only way to play this game is using the claw

If you're playing it because you want to get into the series, sure.
If you're playing it so you can about Monster Hunter with Sup Forums, no, because there are maybe eight people left on this entire website who've played it and you will never find them.

People will recommend freedom unite because of nostalgia. I have fond memories of it but it really is fucking awful in comparison to recent iterations.

If you're playing it on a psp

Monster Hunter is one of the few series where you can just skip right to the latest entry and there's no value lost.

I suffer from crippling arthritis thanks to this game, my left hand is permanently gnarled

Eh, right now I'd highly recommend to start with 4u over generations. Generations is really more for long time fans.

...

There's literally no reason to play anything prior to 3U at this point.
FU was fine at the time because we didn't know any better but it's horrible broken trash compared to modern MH games.

Second gen monsters are still ruining MH to this day they're so bad

t. gigginox

play until tigrex maybe? It's nice to see how the series aged. After a major "boss" just move on to a new gen game tbqh

Start with Tri. It rebooted the game for the better. Or just go with 4U so you won't have to suffer from how the series went to shit after 3U after they refused to remove all the older, shittier monsters.

He's right though, Gigginox is superior in every way to that monster you poster that is so inferior. I forgot its name.

Also no music.

The PSP version on emulator is great
Playing it on an actual PSP will make your left index finger hurt after 8 hours of playing straight.

Just play MHFU on a Vita or emulator and map the d-pad to the second stick.

MHFU is a fine one to play first. It will at the very least make you appreciate the changes going forward. MHGen changes may be a bit more divisive, but everything up to 4U have been good changes.
