There's no requirement of meeting some kind of quota and reporting on it, but there's a requirement to not discriminate based on such qualities. Some people believe this should obviously result in a perfect spread of percentages across the available options which is why they want numbers as proof of a company's commitment to diversity.

Applications may sometimes ask for certain qualities of the applicant merely for the company to collect data. Of course the company could be using that data to make hiring decisions, but you're not supposed to.
