Dawn of War 3 Open beta thread

Any anons playing the beta?

I didn't even know it was happening until something like two hours before it started. So far only played three matches, lost the two initial ones and won the 3rd by actually getting a good unit composition and not floating resources like a jew.

The game is fairly solid at this stage. Wish there were more factions, but what is there is balanced well with proper counters to pretty much everything.

The elite units are very -cool-, but I'm not sure how to feel about their role in the game as a whole. The strongest ones (Imperial Knight, Wraithknight etc) can wreck your whole army by themselves if you're not careful, but get countered heavily by just spreading out your army since they are incredibly slow.
The smaller elites are strong, but need to be micromanaged a lot. In general, the whole game is very micro heavy in my experience and if you're not constantly managing your units they will get their shit kicked in.

The UI is pretty bad though, very hard to see what is going on and I find myself losing units constantly without even knowing that they are being killed.

Macha pls be my gf

Really disliking it so far

It's pretty good so far. Lots of players just blob basic units so right now it's pretty easy to just use elites and nades to stomp games.

Game's fun.

Going to play, watch out for classic baits folks

I'm getting a hang of the game.

Fun. I'm abysmal at playing the orcs but it's funny how reminiscent of DoW 1 it is.

Why are there so many salty cyka blyadts on the forums?

It's like the Russians really hate this game and I can't figure out why.

> Dat feel when you cap Mid as well as 2 of your opponents points within the first 5 minutes of a match
> They then rush Knight+Wraithknight
> But you use Jonah's ability to Stunlock them to death while your teammate burns them with Annihilators from the side

Jonah is seriously underappreciated as a hero. People seem to underestimate his power to fuck up things by stunlocking and either casting Chain Lightning from within said stunlock, or PRAISING THE SUN.

That's a lot of avengers.

I wish the game had cover

You can just stun it with flamers if you have right doctrine.

I do not like it.
I am glad that they released an open beta so I could test it out and confirm my suspicions of it.

The elite mechanic is fucking retarded as the heroes are too fucking game defining, matches are slow as fuck because you can't punish your opponent for making mistakes until like 30 minutes in to the match due to the fucking turrets, and due to all of the bs abilities going on, half of the time you don't even fucking know what is going on.
Also, units die in microseconds which I absolutely fucking hate in RTS games. The resource production is too slow that you could spam units like in Starcraft, but the units still die as fast as fucking Terran marines so you are faced with a retarded choice of trying to preserve units that die in microseconds because replacing them is too fucking costly on the long run.

DoW 2 is better than this, as is DoW 1. If you want tactical combat with smaller scale, go for the former, if you want big matches with tons of units, go for the later.
This abortion of the game mixes up the two in the worst possible ways.

Let's find cover for 250 orks: the game

>you can't punish your opponent for making mistakes
But you can. And you should.

I've just played 2 games, so cant really say. Im kinda disliking it, but thats mostly because everything is cnfusing and I cant tell what the fuck is goingo n. And leaving your units (which feel like paper) standing in the open feel very wrong on fundamental level to me.

Am I the only that feels the Beta is very unresponsive? Or am I just connecting to people at other side of Urals or something.

It's fine on my side of Urals.

The real question is why you wouldn't wait until they release the 23 expansions and buy a "Gold Edition".

The only reason this franchise isn't dead is because they can release a new faction with each expansion and you idiots still buy it.

Reminder that skirmishing is ONLY useful if they result in you obtaining + holding another capture point.

On the other hand, early-game Harassment to stop them from gaining capture points is a godly strategy to work with.
> Dat feel when someone puts their infantry in some cover in the vain assumption that it'll stop you from harassing
> So you ignore them and perform a Left One-two by instead attacking a capture point
> He falls for the bait by trying to defend his point
> You respond by having your other squad take the cover, which you then kite him to for sandwiching his squad between the two units.

Easy shit, I fucking love gaining an early resource advantage on people with a simple bait & switch. The real punishment is denying your opponent resources in early-midgame.

Not really.
Sure, you can cap points, but your opponent can just retreat behind his turret until you hit tier 3 and actually get access to units that can deal with that bs.

>why you wouldn't wait until they release the 23 expansions
So I can play it now? What kind of question is that?

I'll probably buy it when it's on sale. When the inevitable chaos expansion is on sale actually.

I don't know much about Warhammer 40K. I played Dawn of War and DOW2. The only thing I know is that DOW3 seems to have better graphics.

I played the three tutorials so far but waiting on my friend to get home so we can get into multiplayer.

Did previous Dawn of War games do this? I thought their expansions (like Retribution, etc.) were standalone. I know that for some strategy games (like Civ) you're better of waiting for the complete package, but is that true of Dawn of War?

So they retreat behind the turret - leaving you total control of all the resources on the map, including the elite points.

>retreat behind his turret
So destroy it. People really affraid that turrent without any reason. Just don't stay under heavy attack and you'll be fine.

Nigga a handful of trash squads and a 4 point hero can destroy a fucking turret.

Well damn, something must be going at the urals then

The turret is an absolute joke, and anyone who is afraid of it is just a gunshy dumbass. Newfags to RTS pls go.

Reminder that the true patrician way to play this game is to be a hyper aggressive motherfucker that constantly harasses and attacks without resting.

Yes. Yes they did.

>Don't know much about Warhammer 40k

Get battlefleet gothic and Space Marine.

The only way you are going to know more is to participate in media.

It's the horde still salty about CoH2.

Jonah is the fucking shit.

Between him and droppod stunlocks and jetpack marine knockback and Termi stun.

Its like I'm fucking Invincible, don't even get me started on when I have Dreads available.

POST ELITES LINE UP HERE:
Best Space marine elites reporting in.

Nigga I've killed the power core 12 mins into the game with tact squads, Jonah and assault marines.

I fucked up a turret with 2 dark reaper squads a banshee and Macha... and I still find Macha completely useless.

Based assault marines.

They've turned everything I've put them up against to paste. Still need to try them against the Knight-Tier Elites, but they will fuck up Angelo's day for sure.

Russians love RTS games a lot.

I wish I could play vs passive AI so I can get used to the units. Right now I'm almost constantly dumbfounded when playing MP and as such getting destroyed everytime.

Gameplay can be fun but seems to be really confusing during larger fights and the maps are bland as fuck - that's my takeaway from 5 MP battles.

relic nazi game stuka 72 motherland isu nazi game okw NERF aaaaaaa

They actually work really well against knight elites.

2 squads of assault marines will surround a knight elite and prevent it from escaping. Plus dropping them in with drop pods will stun them.

Also scout blind grenades stun them as well, I keep at least 2 scout squads near end game just for that

Shit's funny too when you have one token scout squad on 'hold fire' following your dudes around, so that whenever something problematic shows up you can just throw a stun grenade into it and laugh. Jonah even passively buffs the damn things simply by existing.

Assault Marines with Power Swords and at least T1-Attack+ fuck up the base buildings hard. I once completely turned around a 3v3 by sneaking scouts into the enemy base and drop podding 3 assault marines directly onto the PC. The PC was down to 50% before they could finally get back to their own base, and that was just enough position fuckery to turn the battle around.

Also, last night I was 1v2 after my teammate quit at the 30 minute mark, defending with 11 Ork tanks and infinite mines when the game suddenly crashed at 1 hour 20 minutes

>mfw

Ah shit, I meant assault Terminators.

That said Assault Marines (especially after the power sword upgrade) are pretty good too.

Ive only done the tutorial so far
Is it safe to say its more like Warcraft 3 with moba elements this time around?
I can probably get used to this but lanes/turret/generator seems a tad more repetitive than 1 and 2

eldar man here. wraith knight is so fucking sweet to use. that surf-jump eraticates niggas like crazy. just fun to use really. its speed sucks dick. just used macha otherwise looking at the wraithlord if i get a chance, just feels like i might as well wait for the full knight summon

Are there elites that are considered absolute trash at this point?

Ork Big Mek has been useless in all my battles so far.

Big Mek and Eldar sniper are pretty bad.

Why does it look like a mobile game?

No, they are all good for now.

Trust me, 1 and 2 were just as repetitive. Lanes were still a thing in the other games, as "lanes" are a key component of map design.

>Big Mek

Thought so

What does the Big Mek even do?

Eldar sniper is fucking great. He wins the vision game on his own (his ability gives vision and has infinite range) and he can really help in the early game when you have to deal with the SM kill-team

i thought eldar sniper was broken. havent seen it in game, just people talking

Shit Tier:
> Kill-Team
> Sniper
> Big Mek

Normally I'd say the kill-team is alright, but it's massively overshadowed by Jonah "I'M NOT STUCK IN HERE WITH YOU, YOU'RE STUCK IN HERE WITH ME" Orion

Assault terminators fucking destroy all armor/knight elites.

Drop them in with Deathwatch squad nearby and hit their stunlock ability. BOOM everything is now stunned for 4 seconds also half their HP is gone.

Oh... whats that? You are running away? HAHA FUCK YOU TELEPORT STUNNED AGAIN AND DEAD.

I've killed 2 solarias with 1 Assault terminator Jonah and 4 Tact marines with plasma rifles and T3 Damage upgrade. THEY JUST MELT.

>Is it safe to say its more like Warcraft 3 with moba elements this time around?

Not really.
It borrowed the hero idea from Warcarft 3 but the game playes completely differently.

Warcraft 3 is all about farming u your hero, while building up an army and then making a decisive engagement at the end.

This game tries to be DoW2 and DoW1 at the same time by making the resource generation exponential.
You start with small number of units, micro battles for points much like DoW2 and then upgrade your resource generation and get into DoW1 style battles.
If you get into tier 3, it goes full SupCom, complete with gigantic robots.

Funnily enough,

WC3 is the least Moba like game in terms of map and combat flow. WC3 is a very fascinating game imo. There are a lot of things in the game that you can't see anywhere else. I'd say WC3 is its own beast of a game.

I think this game is a unholy combination of Relic RTS+BFME with a minute dash of MOBA staples.

I found the Eldar sniper to be very strong early game. His range is so long that people don't even notice he's shooting them. Same goes for Ranger squads.

I defended the bottom point in 3v3 against an Imperial Knight and several devastator and tac squads simply by having two Ranger squads kill all the regular marines while my Wraith elite and some Wraithguards held the attention of the Imperial Knight. By the time the enemy player noticed that all his supporting squads were gone his Imperial Knight was at 20% health

He has a traktor beam that can pull himself to scrap, allied units to himself or damage shields on enemy targets; can drop light scrap; and temporarily turn scrap into scrap turrets but they're quite shit.

I found him way too easy to fucking kill.

You get like 1 assault marine in melee with him and hes dead in like 5 seconds.

Its been the main source of ragequits from eldar players against me.

How do you even use Macha, people?

DoW3 is definitely the worst RTS I've ever played.

>Kill team
>Shit tier

Are you fucking bad? Holy shit the kill team is fucking top tier as fuck.

Grenade enemy army, homer out, teleport back in, SEND 2ND FUCKING GRENADE RIGHT BACK INTO ENEMY ARMY, ENEMY ARMY IS NOW DEAD

Guess you never played the Total War series then.

It's okay, user.
We're on Sup Forums. This is the first and the last game you played in your life.
If that at all and you're not just fishing for replies.
In that case, 4/10, good try.

That's an apt description of him.

What's a better combo Deathwatch/Jonah or Jonah/Gabriel? I'd think Deathwatch is a decent enough choice for a fast second elite to help out.

>in a world where grey goo is the perfect example of modern rts
>in a world where countless budget rts exist
>in a world where everyone was trying to copy starcraft with shit clones

Kill yourself my man

Use her to lock down groups of enemies and combo with area attacks and shit like the Ion cannon if you're playing with a Space Marine ally. That combo has obliterated my army so many times.

MOBASHIT
FUCKING
SUCKS

I played Rome 2 and Shogun.

I said of the ones I played. Grey Goo was mediocre but still better than this. I honestly tried to think of an RTS I enjoyed less. I couldn't come up with.

Why do the terminators look so fucking weird there?

Total War is not just RTS. Its 4X mixed with RTS

Yea but Jonah Orion can fucking take on the titans and kill virtually any unit in the game with STUNLOCK, CHAIN LIGHTNING, SUNBRO. The kill-team dies just as easily as a normal tac squad, which isn't saying much because whenever I run Jonah, I fucking eat kill-teams like candy.

Jonah/Gabriel definately. Kill-Team isn't tanky enough to last long, but Gabriel is. Gabriel also has the magical wonders of adding more Stunlock to your roster. And you can never have enough Stunlock.

I'd rather just play CoH2

>No sync kills
>No Paul or Brian Dobson
>No dynamic cover
>Base building

>no separate weapon color
>green eyes only
>no veteran helmet colors for terminators
>can't even make Iron Hands' hands silver

Why can't they ever make a good army painter?

Kill team+Jonah is honestly the best combo in game right now.

It just dominates early game so hard, Jonah lets regular tact marines melt enemy Gabes with his holy light ability.

Kill team is super versatile, you can get the flamer upgrade for early game so you can clear out shield bubbles or mow down infantry, and late game you can get the rocket launcher that does a huge chunk of enemy armors health.

plus the damage bonus from the grenade debuff is pretty fucking good.

Thats why you run Jonah+Kill team. It decimates enemy infantry like know ones business

> Bitching about base building
> When it's one of the core tennets of good RTS game
Bruh, the only thing wrong with base building in this game is that you can't build turrets anywhere.

I haven't played it.

1. I really hate the art style, a lot. It seriously looks like a mobile phone game mixed with League of Legends.

2. I REALLY REALLY hate the MOBA-fication of it. Dawn of War introduced a completely new way for RTS games to exist in the modern world, Company of Heroes nearly perfected it, and then it all came tumbling down.

And that's why I'm not going to bother actually playing it. Obviously, I haven't played it - my opinion is very limited in value. I don't think I've said anything that is invalidated by that, though.

why can't we just have Generals 2 bros ;(

So you're supposed to sneak her into the midst of the enemy army?
Because she dies if they look funny at her, making that kind of ass to do.

>there are people who hate base buildings in RTSs

Reminds me why I don't browse Sup Forums anymore

>a little bit of inspiration from starcraft

POST AND RATE CUSTOM COLOR SCHEMES

The developers were shit, the game was a really bad rip-off of Starcraft 2 and I gained a lot of respect for EA the day they fired the team.
For fuck's sake, they brought in a GamesReplays faggot as a balance lead... you know, someone who knows less about games than a kid in kindergarten and only ever played autistic Generals 1 MP his whole life.

You guys wanna share tips you've picked up so far that they don't teach you in the tutorial? I've only played Orkz so far:

-Build Waagh towers to maintain a supply of scrap

-PICK UP SCRAP ON ALL YOUR UNITS. Ork units are quite underwhelming without scrap and they all gain abilites and passives by looting.

-Scrap comes in 3 sizes: small, medium and large

-Gretchins can build Ork tanks from large piles of scrap during escalation phase 3 for half the price which means you can start shitting out mass amounts of tanks if you have enough Waagh Towers in your base

- Ork tanks with loot can shoot seemingly an unlimited amount of mines (that last until detonated) and are great for area denial

They just had to create DOW 1 with better graphics... I sure miss those days. Do you guys know a good rts game like that (not released a decade ago)

its boring as fuck

the UI is a goddamn mess

you can't tell what the fuck is gong on,units die too easily and you constantly lose track of where the hell they are and the minimap is shit a telling where your units are

the combat feels shit as well, melee units hitting stuff don't feel like they are hitting stuff, range units shooting at stuff don't feel like they are shooting stuff

its supposed to be better graphically than DoW2 but i sure as hell can't see it, maybe because of the shitty art design

I played this game when in childhood actually. Like for 5 minutes or so.

magneto marines deploy

base building is retarded

serves no purpose but to stop you from killing stuff

warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Steel_Confessors

Better yet, post your renderings of various chapters. Pic related are my Steel Confessors.

I'm not well versed in why it was failed, I just wanted a Generals game with better graphics. I can't spam my Chinese Infantry anymore because no one is playing the old one.

don't bother

i dislike a lot of the same stuff you mentioned but i still played it with and open mind and hoping that it doesn't suck but it sucks

I've spend 250 hours in Soulstorm and 127 hours in Retribution and so far I did not like this game. It feels more like a CoH 2 reskin.

...with shitty forced moba elements.

Your forgot that not only is it a terrible CoH2 reskin, but it's filled with really fucking shitty forced moba elements

This game has the honor of being called out for being too much like every other Relic RTS besides Homeworld so far. It's kinda amazing.

Oh, and MOBA

I don't want to be rude but

>Believing what Sup Forums posts about the game
>Believing the MOBA meme

I mean, it's free for the open beta. You could just try it out and see that it's not actually like an assfaggot apart from the whole shield gen-turret-core thing. It's a competent RTS with a lot of depth to it.

damn wasnt sure how the scrap mechanic worked, really. gonna give orks another try
