Had to look up both games. God damn Hat in Time is taking its sweet time. Yooka Laylee took two years which is pretty good timing, especially considering the track record for kickstarter release times.

Well Yooka Laylee was made by professionals. People who know how to plan in accord with deadlines, and know how to get out a product by then.
Hat in Time is something of an amateur effort. Lot of "Whoops, we broke something." "Oh, no, we forgot this." "Oh shit our team is like 3 people and it turns out that asset generation takes way longer than we expected."

I just think it was impressive that it didn't get a year+ worth of delays like most KS projects. It did get delayed, but it wasn't as significant like most projects you hear about like Tim's, Mighty Number 9, and so on.
