Is this the beginning of the end for PS3 network?

Is this the beginning of the end for PS3 network?

who the fuck is still playing on the PS3?

I find this retarded. Isn't the point of streaming to be platform agnostic? That you don't need specific hardware to do something, it just works as long as your device is Internet-connected?

Removing support for all those devices undermines the concept of streaming.

They want you to buy their PS4 to stream. Only reason I can think of. Also I don't see PSN going down for PS3 yet. I'd say it has a few years left. Same with 360. Though who knows with scorpio.

I have games to play still on PS3 and trophies to earn.

It is retarded. They're cutting off potential customers of their subscription service.

I think Microsoft are hoping to get a good 50-75% of the Xbox 360 library working on Xbox One before they do that. Their subscription service coming soon that lets you download Xbox 360 and Xbox One games is only going to work on Xbox One.

>PS Now
ok so it literally has nothing to do with PS3 PSN. great thread.

>reading comprehension

I am, I always get the console at the end of its life so Its cheap and I can get all the good games at once.

They're removing PS Now from PS3 and Vita to better focus on PS4. This can only mean they're gradually going to fuck over the PS3 base. I hope you all have downloaded all your games and backed them up to an external hard drive.

Yeah I read about that. It's like a digital netflix. I can't see them getting that many games for BC though. Each game has to get permission from the publisher and then they need to develop a unique emulator for it. I mean I could be wrong but it seems far-fetched.

...also if your ps3 breaks and there is no online network anymore there would be no way to activate another ps3 to play those downloaded games.

>Microsoft is giving Xbone BC & keeping Xbox Live on 360 titles, Black Ops 2 got over 100k players recently
>Sony shutting down PS3's online with no BC for PS4

#4THEPLAYERS

lol the hyperbole in this thread is stronk. ps3 store/downloads/online play aren't going anywhere anytime soon. I can still fucking play psp games online ffs.

>fuck over the PS3 base
You have had 10 years to make your purchase worthwhile goy.

>PSTV

Anyone who owns one already turned into a machine for free PS1, PSP and Vita games and lost online anyway

PS Now is a dead end. Won't be long until its canned in its entirety.

Also OP, this news is over a month old and the shutdown isn't only effecting PS3's.

360 games on XB1 still use the 360 version of live though so I don't see them shutting down. It doesn't cost them much to run those servers anyways because nowadays they're just VMs. The way technology progresses they eventually can run 360 live servers off of a single physical server

>I hope you all have downloaded all your games and backed them up to an external hard drive.
This is what you get for being a digital download faggot

try buying actual game discs and you won't have this problem

PC master race wins again

The seventh gen may not have been the best but the eighth gen makes it look like dynamite.
