Le "I hate romances" Sup Forums meme

>Le "I hate romances" Sup Forums meme

Can somebody explain where this came from? Is Sup Forums just too underaged to have played Baldur's Gate 2 or something? Even one of the best written games, Planescape Torment, has romances. It was even handled quite decently with Alpha Protocol. I mean seriously, does Sup Forums have a problem with the way The Witcher handles romance?

If the first two Fallout games (my two favorite WRPGs) had romances, would they better games for it? Maybe, maybe not, but considering the quality of both games writing, it wouldn't have hurt.

So what's the deal, Sup Forums?

I've played through BG2 several times and I don't remember anything about the romances. I don't have a problem with them as a concept, but it's very easy to make them hammy and shitty. A game will rarely be worse for not including romance but it can be worse for including it.

Just my opinion.

Assuming you're serious, a large portion of the problem is how they're treated like a win state and how fandoms of certain franchises will treat them as the alpha and omega of the game ala BioWare.

I don't think anybody hates romances. In fact I'd say most people do like them, it's just that they're usually really cheesy or done very bad.

No, it's that you were a dumb teenager when you played it, and now you're convinced that shit was actually good.

The problem is that they are put in at the cost of other things. Some writers just can't enter romances into the game's narrative properly, and yet, there they are, jarring and awkward.

FIVE (5) FUCKING PAGES OF THIS SHIT

I'm aware. But that doesn't mean this can't be a decent discussion regardless.

>the problem is how they're treated like a win state

All video games are about getting a win state you pretentious faggot

Get a different hobby you worthless shit.

Not only are you missing the point, you're also wrong

Based

OP is still fuming over this post. He made like 600 threads about how he is a cuck because of that exact image.

It can't. It all boils down to "I hate X" "I like Y" every time

Well, ff videogames at least made some exploration in other aspects of romance such as anal love, threesomes (jade empire being the exception) or fantasy gangbangs the subject could be taken a little more serious.

The discussion loses all meaning when you know you're replying to an OP who has made the same thread over a hundred times. You're not gonna be the one to change his mind.

>other aspects of romance such as anal love, threesomes (jade empire being the exception) or fantasy gangbangs the subject could be taken a little more serious.

Every decent discussion I have on Sup Forums is myself and maybe one or two other guys talking and ignoring the rest of the shitposting.

Sawyer isn't a cuck. He's a homo.

>I mean seriously, does Sup Forums have a problem with the way The Witcher handles romance?
TW doesn't have romance.

It's not about him. I just throw my opinion out and see if anyone wants to discuss it.

Was this romance subplots things one of the factors for forcing diversity in games these days?

But I love le romances.

Oh I'm sorry that Stanley Parable and Gone Homo exist to sate your cock thirst for no endings (oh wait they have endings aka win states you fucking goober)

It's always shocking to check the archives and realize how much of Sup Forums is fueled by genuine autism

SUPER LIMB BASED COMBAT was a turbo autist too. I suspect he was the same guy who spammed "rainy city at night are edgy" shit.

Dunno why you're talking about those games, user, I never mentioned them
I think you should read my message again.

fuck rpg codex

I hope he adds some romance with cuck options in PoE2. Watching your romance fucking other companions must be feel weird.

>Is Sup Forums just too underaged to have played Baldur's Gate 2 or something?
The average Sup Forums poster is underage, so yes.

Just look at the recent starcraft threads and how there's a load of people asking questions since they never played it because "when it came out I wasn't born" and whatnot.

Stop posting this shit

Funny enough his other 2 obvious pasta got instantly deleted but moderation missed this one.

I like romance if it's done well. I liked Yen in W3. I guess as long as it makes me happy or entertained I'm all for it. My girlfriend is far away right now and it feels bad at times.

Romances are bad because they're creepy wish fulfillment and tend to attract some disturbed people around them. A trip to the Bioware forums should be all the evidence you need of this. They can be ok though if they're more complex than "all the chicks want the hero's dick, just complete these quest objectives to get sex" and if the main character isn't just a self insert of the player who has a real backstory. In vidya it always happens so fast and doesn't feel real. Witcher worked only because Geralt had an in depth and convincing history with Yen.

Like video games in general

>Witcher worked only because Geralt had an in depth and convincing history with Yen.

Cringe

He has a point, with yen and geralt there was a series of books building their character. The game writers didn't have to make anything, just continue it.
