It's true outsider art: It lacks the resources, talent and the overall knowledge of the medium to compare to its sources when it comes to polish and functionality, but it makes up for that by pure enthusiasm and love for the influences it incorporates. The parts may be shoddy, but this is a case of something being more than the sum of its parts.

Really? I loved the characters and story, but had to force myself to finish the game. It would really benefit from a remake

No, design documents ruin AAA games because they cant remove a poor feature after implementation due to strict deadlines. They never have time for prototypes and iterations and just dump vomit from "game dezign document" that producer probably wrote anyway.

Played Deadly Premonition for most of the past 2 weeks (2 playthroughs, 1 to 100% completion) and it's honestly one of my top 10 favorite games. Most characters are quirky in an endearing way, and they all feature their own unique daily schedules. There are so many small features in the game that just add to my personal enjoyment of the experience (being able to shave in the house of a grieving mother that recently lost her daughter, being able to use turn signals and windshield wipers while driving, York's discussions with Zach regarding movies). The gunplay and QTEs are really my only significant complaints in the game, as the combat gets tiresome very quickly and I personally cannot stand QTEs. Despite these significant flaws, the surreal characters, dynamic and pleasant setting, interesting storyline, and numerous tiny details make this game such a unique joy to play and I really hope more people give it a shot. That being said, fuck the instability of the PC version of this game

But everything else was fantastic.
The atmosphere, the music, the characters, the dialog, the story, the twists, everything was memorable and just all around great.
It was a chore and a half to play, but it was worth every second.
