You should only play the PSP version after finishing FES. Direct command is a nice addition but everything outside of tartarus is a 2D sprite and the story is told in a VN style. It sacrifices a lot of the game's impact when everything is told through portraits.

I don't understand the problem with Tartarus. I blew through each section in one visit (most times) and was free to work on personal stats and S.Links for the rest of the night.

It's not that bad once you get used to them, and they speed up combat at that point too. People are just used to gimmick bosses in persona 5 where losing control of your party would mean instadeath because you have to deliberately control everyone to build around the boss patterns/gimmick.

P3 is good if your favorite part of 5 was Mementos and you wished it was 4x longer and mandatory.
The theme of the Fool's Journey is stronger than 4 but weaker than 5's (the group in 5 have come together from a shared reason and all have themed Persona, very cool).
The plot literally doesn't exist until the very end of the game where it's all dumped on you at once, you head off to what is quite possibly the most underwhelming final boss fight in the series and get a pretty decent/moving ending.
And then one of the most touching moments in the game is undone in FES by literal magic.
And then the good parts of the ending are undone and retconned in the abysmal (canon) epilogue, which goes against everything you were told previously and introduces another never before seen enemy as the real boss and makes your sacrifice at the end of 3 feel fucking dumb.
Remember: The entire plot kicks off because a massive group of smart, well funded scientists decided to cause the apocalypse and end the world.
And literally only one of them, in the entire group, didn't want to die and kill everyone on earth.
To reiterate the scientist point. Remember all the fear about the Large Hadron Collider?
Imagine if the team had found out that the fears were real, it would create a black hole, and kill everyone on earth. They knew this would happen for sure.
And then they went ahead and did it, explicitly for that reason. Not for science, literally to kill everyone.
And only one person in the entire team disagreed with this.
(BTW: The company thar hired these scientists and then covered all this up, acting with literally zero oversight, are the good guys. And then they betray you again :^))
Well at least the apocalypse themes fit with MegaTen as a whole.

Tactics memory is off by default in the configurations and many people just assume teammate priority gets reset every battle, they should have just left tactics memory on instead. No one wants to change that shit all the time.
Why don't you play real SMT, like Nocturne or Strange Journey?

It's the exact same game but with a lower budget and gameplay improvements. Persona 3 is not nearly as good looking as Personas 4 and 5. You don't miss out on much by the game being uglier.

Persona 3 sucks half the time. Mainly because of the difficulty curves, the bullshit bosses, and the grinding.

I blew through 4 bosses at a time until i got stuck, had to grind, beat it, repeat. Not to mention i got to Nyx at level 64, when practically impossible to defeat her under 72. You can not tell me there is no grinding involved.

You only have to farm for new personas and the 1-2 levels to actually fuse them, I don't recall ever bothering to level up for boss fights. Other than that just kill 90% of the shadows on the way up and you're golden, hell I usually run past at least 50% of them.
It's even easier in 4, you don't ever have to fight regular shadows for anything except quests if you just aim for Golden Hands.
