Yes. Heavier on the VN side than the SRPG side but there's still a good amount of actual gameplay. Really recommended you play the first one or watch the anime for it since the final game in the series has most of the cast from the first return so it won't be as impactful if you don't know them.

Sure. The second game is even easier than the third one.
You might need to go back a couple of turns in the third game on hard (there is a mechanic in the game that lets you go back up to 50 turns and redo your actions), but Deception is just way too easy on normal.

2 is a cakewalk, so yes.
3 is too barring some really annoying maps.

It's pretty much just a visual novel. The SRPG levels are short and easy. Not much strategy to it.

The series stop being a porn game after the first, so if you're after that you might as well skip it.

Second game has more slice of life and less war and seriousness than the original game. But really it's just the first half of one big amazing game.
Things get fucking real in the third game that's coming out in autumn and it's exciting from beginning from end.

I'm a long time fan of the first Utawarerumono, and the two new games really deliver. Second game is more of a world building and character introduction and it was too much SoL for some people, but it's needed to fully enjoy the last game.

Also there are returning characters from the first game. Only small roles in the second game, but they are vital to the story in the third. Everyone returns, and everyone with their original voice actors, it's pretty awesome that they got back the original game's entire cast.
Hakuoro and Eruru gets a proper ending too.
Touka, Karura, Aruru, Kamyu, Urtori, Oboro, Benawi and Kurou all have several scenes each, especially in the third game.

I really liked Hakuoro's game, the first one. Was bummed out by the cliffhanger at the end. Its strange that I can still remember, but that only speaks of how good it was. If its anywhere like the first then I might pick up both sequels one day. I'll put it on my list right now. Made me like non-human females.

The third game actually gives a proper ending to the first game and tells you what happened after that cliffhanger. And then it ends with a cliffhanger for the new protagonist.

Mask of Truth is confirmed for a September release. Truth pretty much has the entire Uta1 cast return and even deals with Hakuoro's fate.

Gameplay wise 2 and 3 are both an improvement over the first game. 2 is way too easy though, whereas 3 is properly difficult on Hard.

Story wise they're kind of meh, not horribly bad but nothing really memorable either. Enjoyment depends on how much you wanted more of the exact same as the first game, they don't really develop the setting further and take ages to re-reveal the first game's big twists in the second game, as if struggling to decide whether they wanted to make a direct sequels or two games that can also be enjoyed by total newcomers. Be prepared for shittons, even more of SoL scenes than in the first game. Villains are also unlikable retards and the writers gave them stupid cliche woobie stories like your best JRPGs. Story wise the sequels are also clearly one game stretched into two 50 hour long games; in second game almost nothing of importance happens at all until the very end when main plot fucking finally starts moving forward and then it ends on an unsatisfying sequel hook. Third game was okay, though nothing groundbreaking and they're just content to recycle the first game's plot elements and shit.

The new protagonist is a fantastic character though. The third game also has plenty of vocal tracks which is nice, the final boss battle track of third game being remaster of first game's credits music was pretty fucking hype.
