I just bought this because it looked kinda like old Deus Ex. What am I in for guise?
E.Y.E thread I guess.

You're in for confusing maps and endlessly respawning enemies in a vaguely 40k-esque setting.
bad translation.
try to trick your friends into buying it, this game is fun-ish on co-op
Brouzouf gains
Just rake in those Brouzouf that's the only thing you need to care about.
There is no automatic reload. When your clip is empty, you have to manually hit the R knob.
what ending did you go for the first time Sup Forums
Something that's much farther removed from Deus Ex than you'd initially think with lots of weirdness, jank and translation issues. On the other hand, the gameplay is meaty and the various superpowers are incredibly entertaining to use, the translation goofs result in some hilarious dialogue and the jank shouldn't be a problem since you played OG Dude Sex.
>translation goofs
this meme needs to stop
I already did this question yesterday but I'll make it again
I finished this game with friends and got the wrong ending
should I replay it alone?
>and got the wrong ending
There is no wrong ending, you just get them all.
Prepare to break the circle of guilt and swim in brouzoufs.
OP here.
Jesus christ I feel like I need an encyclopedia for this game. Should I just ignore the intricacies of all these stats and menus and just go with the flow?
Like during character creation I had no idea what I was doing, but I aimed for high PSI power.
the translation is accurate, that's how the original french script is written
I'm going to look for the guide pic
wait for me OP
is this open world memes or what?
...
Nah, you don't, just make sure to Research medicine as soon as you can.
don't worry about understanding, just gain brouzouf
psi is fun but might be a rough start due to how slow energy regen is in early game
just don't expect to be able to rely on it for much, always bring a gun to protect yourself when your retard clones fail
...
Also use your magazines in full, if there are some bullets left in them when you reload you'll lose them.
>see this thread
>have to download the game again and start
damn you op
No escape from cycles of reinstalling.
Much obliged anons.
This very first squad almost fucked me. I forgot how janky early source games can be to move around in. These psi clones are OP though, saved my ass.
They marketed it that way but it's actually nothing like Deus Ex. It's just garbage.
Get outta here jian or I'll break your legs.
"It's true that I killed my Mentor... and yet, I am not his murderer."
what did he mean by this?
I noticed, thanks.
What's a little annoying is how my quick-select wheel bugs out and removes the set shortcuts every time I alt+tab.
Also gotta love that transmute PSI.
Enjoy man, I wish I could experience for the first time again
It's not really all that complicated. There's a lot of moving parts but in the end it's just a bunch of different ways of increasing the same stats/getting new abilities. If the French weren't so retarded all that shit could be boiled down to a couple of menus.
how do i save dutch?
do i need to save him for any of the endings?
Heal him, bring the turrets from the start or just bring your own, hack the turret. Keeping him alive doesn't matter at all, he returns for the next mission then instantly dies.
you can hotkey every power
A few words regarding the translation.
After having looked through both the french and english text files, I can say the following :
Most of the time, the english text is an accurate translation from the french text, even though the wording is often convoluted.
People often say that the translation is bad because the dialogue contradicts itself, or gives you false information. Well, the same is true in french, and it is pretty much a part of the game/plot.
Keep in mind that the french text isn't exactly high literature, especially when adressing looters or feds; in fact, the translation is often much more flowery and sophisticated than the original.
At times, there is also some confusion because "Vous" and "Tu" are both translated as "you" in english, but nothing major.
That being said, there are a few weird cases, where the english text says way more, or way less, or something entirely different, than the french text :
For example, Mentor saying
>Va semer la mort !
meaning "go sow death among them!" becomes
>Go now, and purify these lands with their sacrificial blood!
After the purge mission, the envoy of the secreta say
>Salutations!
which is a pretty formal way of saying "Greetings !", and this becomes
>Well hello there !
Lastly, after Huan provokes you, you answer with
>Le seul accident qui me fasse peur c’est que ma tête tombe dans de l’acide et que je me retrouve avec ta sale gueule de paumé.
The literal translation is "The only accident I'm afraid of would be to fall in a vat of acid, because then I'd have your ugly moron face." However, the ingame translation... Well, I'm sure you can guess.
cont.
I'm using X to cycle the active one and using them with mouse thumb button.
Its really annoying how alt+tabbing forces you to rebind the entire quick-select wheel though. Also this temple place is unnecessarily huge, confusing and barren, but I like the dialogue so far.
The feeling I get from this is that at times, the translation is inconsistent (while keeping in mind that the dialogue itself is inconsistent for story reasons), as if it was made by several people who didn't talk to each other; or perhaps this was done intentionally. I wouldn't put it past StreumOn to say "this dialogue is boring, put in some vague metaphors", but this does result in some dialogues that are very far from the original (in form, but not in meaning). Also, I think it's safe to assume that the translation was done "in house", by whomever of the devs happened to be best at english.
Finally, there exists an unofficial patch which claims to "improve" the english translation, but it butchers both the atmosphere and the plot by trying to "correct" anything that's ambiguous.
>It is true I killed my mentor, yet I am not his murderer"
is changed into
>Mentor, I had no choice...
which is just stupid and removes most of the games charm.
Broken legs
anyone have the infograph
>Mentor, I had no choice...
Fuck that.
The writing is really straightforward and coarse.
It's one of the things that adds to the atmosphere and originality of the game.
>Mentor, I had no choice...
>"The only accident I'm afraid of would be to fall in a vat of acid, because then I'd have your ugly moron face."
This might be more of a proper insult, but I think I prefer how ridiculously over the top moron face party mask is.
you wont understand a shit
After about 2 hours now its really grating on me, this game.
The datedness of the source engine, along with the empty levels and obtuse complexity just isn't working for me.
The setting seems interesting, but the basic combat is like playing HL2 again, and that gunplay really isn't holding up very well.
I'll show you basic.
Don't forget the greatest sin of the unofficial patch. You no longer gain brouzouf, you just confirm kills.
>You no longer gain brouzouf, you just confirm kills.
It's even worse than I thought.
thanks
Can any language buffs tell me if the voices in EYE speak a proper language or if it's just gibberish? I understand that it's a mashup of French, Chinese, and perhaps Russian, but could you actually understand what people are saying if you knew those languages or did they just string together words that sounded good?
>highly recommend EYE to a friend after picking it up in a steam sale and blasting through the entire thing in like 2 days
>"user these controls are weird."
>tell him they aren't that bad once you get used to them, or that he could just rebind them
>hasn't touched the game since he first booted it up
remind me why I'm friends with plebs again?
>buy EYE for a friend
>play for an hour before he quits and never touches the game again
>talking about EYE with another friend
>he picks it up on sale
>play through the game three times having a blast
to get all the endings
It's absolute gibberish, no matter what languages you speak. If you wanna listen closely, all the audio files are in steamapps\common\EYE\EYE\sound\dialogues.
It's a shame we can't upload wav files
If you only are 2 hours in you probably haven't unlocked any of the good shit. Upgrade your legs for fast, get dragon and the bearkiller, use your exploding katana. Did you know melee weapons alt fire is to block bullets? Have you tried bringing drones with you?
It's pretty fun to run into a room full of enemies while invisible, only to clone yourself into 4 and start hacking with your exploding katana, then telefrag your way into the next room while shooting down helicopters with your oversized revolver.
how much psi do you need to pick up cars?
~60, ~70 for the bigger trucks
The translation made the dialog lose a lot of context.
If ever there will be an EYE sequel I would not expect its dialog to be as incoherent and funny as the first game.
I absolutely love this game. I've come back to it a few times, but every time it holds my attention for a shorter and shorter amount of time.
Of course that's natural for any game and it's held my attention for far longer than I could have ever expected. I just wish there were more maps or something. Or a big modding community like Mount and Blade.
I tried to make a new map myself a while back, but the documentation was poor and it was too hard to make anything comparable in quality to the original maps.
I bought E.Y.E because I wanted to understand the memes.
I finish E.Y.E and I am further than ever to understanding.
I move fast now and that is all that matters.
Culter life.
