Switch games in a nutshell

Why?
Why not? Dozens of game boxes are sold every day on eBay so it makes sense for the actual developers to want a slice of that pie. It's a genius move. The real question is why didn't anyone think of this sooner?
>Dozens
No, THIS is Switch games in a nutshell.
>Help! My games are in a nutshell! How did they get into this nutshell? Look at the size of this bloody great big nutshell! What sort of shell has a nut like this? This is crazy.
>2006
>People laugh at paying for horse armor DLC
>2017
>People defend paying for an empty box
u/Looks like we're gonna have to bust a nut.
At least the box is an actual product you can touch, display, and resell. Nintendo's clearly making a good move here, and DLC is still cancer.
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. I sure hope so.
Dude, how can you possibly equate this to horse armor? Plenty of collectors and enthusiasts would rather have the box than the game itself, and this is a good way for people who bought a digital copy to get something physical. Before you would be limited to paying full price for another copy of the game when all you want is the box itself.
Frankly, they're the complete opposite. What Nintendo is doing here is pro-consumer while what Bethesda did with Oblivion was anti-consumer.
My head actually hurts from the stupidity. If there's no game why have a box? Why not sell a poster or artbook or something that makes sense? If you think collectors have empty boxes sitting on their shelves that they're not trying to fill with a loose copy, you're fucking retarded.
From the first line I thought you were baiting, then it became less and less obvious and now I think you might actually have brain damage.
Collectors who want to buy digital for convenience.
THIS IS FUCKING GENIUS
WHY SELL THE CONTENT WHEN YOU CAN JUST SELL THE BOX TO AUTISTS WHO LOVE TO SHOW OFF?
THIS IS THE NEXT STEP IN VIDEOGAMES
because they will download the game when it is released but still want to have the box, for some reason.
>If there's no game why have a box?
Because maybe you already have the game? A game is not a cartridge or disc, a modern game is just a few billion bytes. Yet despite the shift to the objectively superior digital distribution method across the industry, many people for one reason or another still want a box. Nintendo gives you that option for a tiny fraction of the price that every other dev asks for the full physical package.
Capitalism at its finest, first there was the Ford Industrial chain, now the Nintendo baiting box !
GG Nintendo you deserve the money
>If there's no game why have a box?
The great thing about the Switch isn't buying the games, it's showing everyone in my living room that I did.
It's the console box for people who already have a Switch, but want to have something Spl2n to put on display. No different than a poster.
>No different than a poster.
It's actually extremely different from a poster.
This. Posters are much more cringey than game boxes, since with a box it doesn't look like you went out of your way to purchase merchandise based on a game. Nintendo came up with a genius way to allow us to display our favorite games more subtly.
>Nintendo came up with a genius way to allow us to pay money to display literal trash around our house
Gotta be a slow news day if that's worthy of a blog entry
>The box comes adorned with Splatoon 2 art, and it can be yours for the low, low price of ¥540 (approximately $5)
holy shit scalpers will be out in full force
>this entire post
>I think you might actually have brain damage
You underestimate the mind of the "collector". This isn't no ordinary plastic box... this is a NINTY branded box.
>How dare Nintendo do something with their products and money
>Worse than hitler and jews I tell you
YOU ARE DEFENDING THE OFFICIAL SALE OF AN EMPTY CARDBOARD BOX
but a bunch of those are ports of old PC games
YOU ARE ATTACKING THE OFFICIAL SALE OF AN EMPTY CARDBOARD BOX
>CARDBOARD BOX
where, shitposter kun?
Do you have the same regard of posters to just pieces of paper?
You are paying for a fucking box.
A hollow cube of cardboard, something you can smash with your bare hands. Its painted cardboard, bent into a box shape, and you buy it.
Who the fuck is ever going to defend buying a fucking empty box?
I am. You are correct. It's the logical conclusion of capitalism.
>put posters up on the wall
>big, high quality artwork that everyone can see
>put empty cardboard boxes on a shelf
>dude why do you have trash laying around everywhere?
dude back off it's nintendo? frankly I think it's a good thing. it's a splatoon box so it's great value. at $5 they're probably even selling them at a loss!
>sonyfags getting upset that their relig-- I mean, game company of choice doesn't let them buy game boxes without paying full price for the game itself, even if you already own the game
Rather than attacking a company for doing something right by their fans, why don't you go complain to YOUR company and convince them to do the same? Then everyone would be happy.
>>sonyfags
You are a mental case.
And nintenyrolds will gobble it up
Almost worse than dorksouls fanboys
Every WiiU and Switch game in one box? I'm in.
It's embarrassing that you guys are making this a big deal when it's not
Thats not how it works.
This thread wasn't made to defend product, but to attack it, even though it has no effect on people who plan to buy or not. literally a non issue as far as capitalism goes.
>This thread wasn't made to defend product, but to attack it
Was it? The OP has no text in it.
>sony is selling 16gb memory cards for 45 amerilardbux.
>Was it? The OP has no text in it.
Yes it does; it has a period. Just like the one you're having right now.
Why are you obsessed with Sony?
>BUT SONY!!!!
What the fuck is with you retards, why must everything be about defending with you?
Any sort of explanation for why a certain product is on sale will boil down to defending it on this board.
Nintendo is selling a system with 32GB storage for $300
Enjoy paying $60 for a box when Nintendo does the same for $5.
I pay $60 for boxes all the time, they come with games inside though
like clockwork
>I pay $60 for boxes all the time
pathetic
Yes, I have also seen the first Austin Powers movie
prove it nerd
>they come with games inside though
*was selling
Now selling system that can hold a 2 tb data SD card
>a 2 tb data SD card
Hello yes, where can I purchase a 2TB micro-SD card?
Hmm? They don't exist yet? Oh, that's weird.
And I thought buying games without manuals was bad.
a 512gb sd card is like $300 itself
>Nintendies in this very thread are defending the sale of an empty box
You can't make this shit up
Who gives a fuck? It's just a game. If you take care of your shit the boxes stay with you forever while the game will provide a couple dozen hours of entertainment at most before you'll get more enjoyment out of a new one. Are you seriously trying to argue that the video game (literally just a series of 1s and 0s) is more valuable than the box? This is an insane level of mental gymnastics just so you can try to paint Nintendo LITERALLY OFFERING MORE OPTIONS TO ITS CONSUMERS in a negative light.
>There are people who actually pay for blank white paper
I really hope you don't think this is a clever analogy
>the boxes stay with you forever
This thread keeps on giving.
Shit I've bought replacement cases for actual physical media before, but this is unbridled autism
are you retard?
32GB internal storage in 2017 is not acceptable
especially when it only uses micro-SDs which are just as overpriced in terms of capacity per dollar
>someone bought an invisible "statue of Frodo wearing the one ring"
>someone bought a framed photograph of a screenshot of a Sup Forums post stating that it was art
>but somehow this is too far
IT'S ONLY NOT OKAY WHEN NINTENDO DOES IT
What's wrong with it exactly?
yes, you are retarded, AKA sonygro.
>AKA sonygro
???
we're talking about nintendo
It's never okay
Both of those previous situations are bullshit and so is this
Nintendo did it.
>game not inculded.jpg
it's okay when nintendo does it
No, that's what's right with it.
You want them to bolt a 3TB HDD to the back instead?
>If you think collectors have empty boxes sitting on their shelves that they're not trying to fill with a loose copy, you're fucking retarded
I'm guessing you don't collect.
Yes.
>he is content to own empty game boxes and consider it a "collection"
I'm guessing you call collect.
That would be good.
Just like the new content.
Can you at least still buy the physical copy of the game and get the box with it? It's pretty scummy if they only distribute the game digitally and you're forced to buy this box separately.
>B-BUT SONY!
selling empty boxes is wrong no matter which company does it.
They're not selling a game case. They're selling this box, the cardboard box that the Switch Splatoon bundle comes in.
>but Grim Grimoire at GameStop
>they put the game in their shitty generic cases instead of giving me the Grim Grimoire case
>they won't give me the case even when I offer to pay five dollars for it
>whatever, go home and print the box art and replace the gay GameStop case art paper with it
>looks tacky and dumb, throw away the paper I printed and just keep GrimGrimoire in a black disc case
FUCKING GAMESTOP
>People are actually defending this
What the fuck is actually wrong with you people
Sick burn.
For context: They're only selling the box in Japan as preorders for the game sold out in minutes. They're also selling a physical box with the game's download code inside, but only in Japan. Basically, Japan is Splatoonland.
That's even stranger, honestly. So it's for people to pretend they bought the bundle or something? What if others start to question why their joycons don't match the colours on the box?
A box company can't sell boxes to companies for shipping their products
You bought it used, numbnuts. Whoevever sold it either a) Didn't return it with the case, b) Fucked it up beyond repair, or c) Didn't have the case to begin with
Your own fault.
To be fair, that is a pretty looking box.
so you're saying only a NEET would buy an empty box.
no wonder Sup Forums is so defensive.
So why not sell a poster with the art? Who is going to display a cardboard box?
Have you ever been to Japan? Do you have no grasp of otaku culture? If something has a beloved character on it, nips will buy it. I wouldn't be surprised if the box is sold out too.
Japan isn't like your gay animes you dumb weeb
That's a box only an autismo could love.
No it's much worse
ok i read the article about it on nintendolife since it had more content than the gamestop one that only had the words "nintendo is selling an empty splatoon box" in it
it seems to be $5 and made just because the original splatoon 2 hardware bundle got sold out instantly and they made this for the collectors that missed it
No one is actively working to nuke them again over this, so nothing will change.
