Arguments against open world games. I'll start: MGSV
Arguments against open world games. I'll start: MGSV
Here's a better one: good level design
my mom calling me for dinner in the middle of a fight
this as true until BotW came out. First open world game with good level design.
Oblivion also had some decent level design for the stealth missions
empty ... dead ... fast travel only..
what other words come to your mind when you hear "open world"?
Fast travel.
inb4 this devolves into a Caramel shitposting thread
The king of good games converted to open world and gone shit is Mirrors edge catalyst, hands down, no contest.
>Tight as fuck gameplay
>Freedom to tackle bases/outposts from whatever direction you pleased with a myriad of strategies
>Never forced to wander or travel needlessly, can just pop in/out of the action easily thanks to the helicopter
What exactly was your problem with MGSV?
Or was it that it wasn't some themepark filled GTA shitfest?
MGSV is a brilliant example of open world done right, it focuses on what it does well and leverages the design to that end.
I forgot Catalyst even released. That series is gone for good, isn't it?
>Do I start my mission through this boring base from the north, west, east, or south?
>Oh wait, I have only two spawn points to pick and there's a perimeter around the base
>Freedom to tackle bases/outposts from whatever direction you pleased with a myriad of strategies
Too bad those bases and outposts were complete shit, with few exceptions.
>Never forced to wander or travel needlessly, can just pop in/out of the action easily thanks to the helicopter
How fucking high are you? The helicopter takes forever to get anywhere.
Sup Forums only hates open world games because the children that lost here are directionless and uncreative.
Wide open-spaces trigger them because most of them come from single-family households and the prospect of exploration reminds them that dad is either dead or straight up ditched their moms.
Most people who post here should be posting on Sup Forums. I am suprised many of you don't get lost on your way to the bathroom to dump out your piss jugs.
Sad really.
disliking open world games is just a contrarian Sup Forums opinion
>muh boring and barren
literally nobody complains about this but Sup Forums, open world games aren't even big enough to have that much empty boring space and MGSV is one of the only games that's like that but then again not even the actual levels in MGSV are memorable
I don't get why open world is the new craze. Some games are better linear, just don't make them a fucking hallway.
You know what it is, right? It's a hell of a lot easier to make one gigantic thing than it is to make several different looking levels and try to not make it a hallway, because if you're gonna go linear, it's just gonna be nothing but hallways, and we all know it. So open world is a devs excuse to be lazy and not make a GOOD linear game, I'd bet money on it
Now THIS is a good post.
The only logical solution is to end video games.
>uncreative
Are you this guy?
>literally nobody complains about this but Sup Forums
Not true, I'm in a spanish gaming forum and everyone hated MGSV too and look at open world games cautiously.
I can't think of a better example than FFXV, being open world didn't help that game one bit, it made it worse actually.
It takes literally less than 20 seconds every time.
No one cares about you and your make believe friends faggot.
uh, projecting much?
As much as BOTW is memed on Sup Forums, it really does have compact and enjoyable level design for an open world, so much so that I've memorized the entire world without the need for a map. There's almost no bullshit in that world
Why does Sup Forums still insist on making MGSV its personal punching bag? Yeah the game has flaws, not nearly to the insane levels you autists pretend they're on.
They're not my friends.
>hurr I hate MGSV XD
Good for you no one cares.
Oh fuck. Don't mention Oblivion. The Morrowind autists will come out of the wordwork...
Whereas FFXV is the most sterile, bland and barren open world this gen.
To me it's kinda personal since it was my favorite franchise and MGSV was the first game that bored me in the entire saga, even counting spin offs.
When disarmament is reached in the next 6 months, I'm going to shitpost Sup Forums every day reminding you faggots how hard you forced this MGSV is shit meme.
I never played MGSV. Can someone give me the rundown on the racist Kazuhira Miller meme? Or was he really racis?
MGSV is worse them ore of a fanboy you are, this isn't a insult btw.
Yeah thats definitely not true and you're definitely being a memeing faggot.
Peace Walker is boring as shit after about 2 hours. Snakes Revenge is complete garbage.
>bad open world game is an argument against all open world games
blimey
I guess you gotta bait hard to get a thread going eh OP?
I actually enjoyed both of those games, MGSV however is a repetitive piece of shit that lasts like 50 hours and I still haven't beat it because it bores me to dead.
Your existence is an insult to every human right now.
Those "few exceptions" are still more fucking MGS than you get in literally any other MGS game to date.
Because you're shit at it.
Look, objectively Snakes Revenge and PW are bad. MGSV has fantastic gameplay, the most vital part of what makes a game good. From what you're telling me, you didn't even get past the Kazuhira rescue(you claimed you stopped after 5 hours). You never gave the game a chance, I don't give a single shit what you think about it, I will just argue with you.
>tfw BotW spoiled you with it's climb everything mechanic
>tfw MGS5 now feels much more restrictive because you can only climb certain spots
>you claimed you stopped after 5 hours
I think you're thinking about someone else, I have 35 hours in MGSV and more than half of those I forced myself to play it.
The gameplay isn't good, level design and variety of situations is also part of the gameplay, you're just talking about the controls.
