Why did VR fail?
Why did VR fail?
Expensive
Nogames that aren't tech demos
Expensive
No gaems
not a single game
VR is like a roller coaster. Fun for a ride or two a couple of times per year, but it gets old fast and is impractical for home use.
remember when people in this very boar where claiming VR was the future of gaming
>hey guys wanna pay $300 for a gimmick?
>no?
>ok how about $750
It instantly failed the moment they said the price point.
gimmickly games, no real application in big games
>why spend hours of hard work to make a VR game when a regular game takes 1/4 the effort
Dumb animeposter is right.
Because the porn is too low rez to get immersed in.
It's like watching a scrambled cinemax movie. Hard to go back to that.
The movement in it is really bad, makes it impractical to make games that aren't stationary shooters
wearing a helmet while standing is not vr
virtual reality should feel like reality
you should be able to bump into things, smell things, tatse things, have the sensation of falling to be considered reality
instead you are standing in the middle your room waving a fuckin wii remote and wearing goggles.
No binaural audio engine.
I member
Because vr porn is dangerously satisfying, and you can just use the psvr or gear for that
Cosmic trip
VR only RTS
Actually fun
Not even the most spoiled child in the universe will be able to convince their parents to spend almost a grand on a gimmicky peripheral.
The price is too high, combined with no games and you have yourself a flop
>poor people get burned by spending money on obvious gimmicks sold by their snake oil salesman console manufacturers
>mad when the PC equivalent happens and it's everything they were promised before packed into one
3D, working motion controls, 99.99% accurate tracking, and room-scale support. Don't worry the price will go down, but not until after the AAA must-play VR titles have already been out for ages.
It didn't fail at all you mongoloid piece of shit. Just because you can't afford a proper VR setup doesn't mean it failed
>i have unrealistic expectations because i am retarded and i obsess over anime
>my excuse for not having a VR headset is that it is not advanced enough for me when in reality it is because i am obese and live in a basement
It's true it's kind of exhausting to play if you're out of shape, but it's a great work-out tool with the right games. Rec room is a pretty well made free one.
It still is. Just because tech is at it's early stages doesn't mean that it failed. The potential for VR is real, and as long as software and hardware keeps progressing eventually it will become a household product with AAA content.
S-Shut up!
the oculus rift used to be 200$ that the fuck happened?
>AAA must play VR titles
go ahead, name them. I'll wait.
fbbp
Also not convenient enough and impairing gameplay
>Cost way too much to purchase.
>The specs required for VR were too high on a market that is already considered enthusiast >Every game that was made for VR was tech-demo levels that cost outrageous amounts.
>Screen quality is still pretty trash and looks fuzzy still.
>Not a lot of companies are making VR versions of their games.
>Bullshit proprietary stuff between oculus and the Vive split the already slim market of games. Not to mention Playstation VR being the most viable option for most.
I tried out the oculus last year with the new controller when it was launched, and while it was neat the screen quality was bad, and the controls felt awkward to use.
Hell, I am someone who could easily run VR on my PC, and I have no interest due to how gimmicky it is at the moment and the lack of any really decent games. I want it to do better, and I want the price to be reasonable, but I seeing the entire market dying out before that happens.
That looks clunky and awful
Fallout 4 vr, every future valve games, every future Bethesda game, every future croteam game, a game from gearbox, payday 2, and a few others I can't name off the top of my head.
In one year all you faggots will be able to whine about is the price, so go ahead and laugh it up now lads.
half life 3 will be VR exclusive. it has been foretold
>half life 3 will be VR exclusive
VR wasnt supposed to be used for games.
All these threads are the same
>Motion sickness
>Too expensive
>Screen to face meme
>DSP redface
>It just isn't there yet
>It always fails
>No gaems
vs.
>Motion sickness isn't that bad
>Just try it and you will like it
>You are just a poorfag
>There wasn't enough time for a whole dev cycle
>Immersion and motion controls are better than expected
>Some people with HMDs actually discussing about it
Throw in some Butthurt, Fanboyism, Pseudoscience, a lot of falseflagging and you baiting.
There I just summarised every VR thread on Sup Forums ever.
It doesn't while you're playing, but whatever you want to nitpick lad.
>people who actually have an HMD discussion them
That's like maybe one in three threads and it's only after everyone has shitposted in the thread for hours.
What's with the GoldenEye map?
Can't vr have their own things?
Exactly - most who fell for the meme and actually enjoy it already gave up on these threads.
Like you said actual discussion is rare and those who wanna shit on it will never not.
It gets especially sad when they actually get frustrated.
Why do you hate fun.
You have to use both hands to shoot, how can it not be clunky to play? VR is the ultimate scam for people vulnerable to sunk cost fallacy.
VR is the fucking Jeb Bush of video games.
Wat?
VR didn't fail, it's still growing, but I don't expect the average user to know that.
Have a (You), on the house.
>daily VR hate thread
Fuck off poorfags.
>Phone VR sold the most
>its the cheapest and the worst kind of VR you can get
Pffft hahahaha
It was hilarious when it happened though.
>devkit is $300-350
>Consumer model will have a price in the same ballpark. ~ Sweaty Palmer
>literally twice as expensive at launch
>he still tried to defend it
Fucking tech-bubble rich kids. How can they be so disconnected from reality?
This
The last panels are actually VR.
The rest of them are just a screen attached to your face.
Unfortunately we will never get to see the last panels in our life time.
>actually get frustrated
It's easy to see, most of the people who shit on vr have clearly never tried a decent HMD. Either phone vr or an old ass dk1.
Really though, the tech aspects are too low (better resolution and higher refresh rates are required), and games are basically all cockpit sims, stand still carnival shoots, or such an early prototype you can't fully expect a finalized release for years.
Most people who have one actually enjoy it.
It's just frustrating to shitpost out of your ass against that when everything you have is just some kotaku clickbait article about motion sickness you can cite.
are you talking about every 8th gen console or VR?
>Fallout 4 vr
>every future Bethesda game
>a game from gearbox
This might shock you but shit games don't magically become good when played with an overpriced peripheral.
>defending your purchase this much
If you were confident in your purchase you wouldn't be defending it on an anonymous image board.
this, RE7 and Rez infinite were amazing tho
>Steel Battalion 2 was on Kinnect and not VR
tfw genetically superior and dont get motion sickness with my PSVR
feels good mayne
Do you feel threatened by my conversation with the other user, user?
Maybe hitting a little bit too close to home?
The moment Facebook bought Oculus Rift I knew that VR would die
this, like what were they thinking
Its dead in the water user. just give up on your silly dream of having vr like in your favorite childhood movies.
Nice non-argument.
VR will never be a thing until it's at The Matrix level.
why is there so much shovelware for vr?
Yeah how can people without full mental control over their inner ear even live?
It's like not being able to tie your shoes.
>tfw two intelligent enough to just enjoy with the screen on my pc
poor neet brianlets that need two monitors in their face.
I know you want that big hose in your anus, to suck out the feces user, you don't need to mention it.
It didnt for me. I am having a blast with werevolves within every day
Because hardly anyone buys VR games, so they have to make cheap, super easy to make crap to make quick money.
It's kinda like that Popcorn Arcade thing on the Wii.
No porn at launch worth the spent
For the intended penetration rates into the home console and PC market, yes those numbers are failure. That's very low adoption rates compared to active user bases.
VR is too expensive and impractical for the average end user. If you've watched Dashiegames lately, you'd know he did some stuff with true VR lately in Machinima's VR room. The fact that a WHOLE ROOM or some kinda clunky treadmill or other devices are needed for a full actual VR experience, and that headsets range into the midlow hundreds is putting it out of the average users range.
If users arent adopting it, nothing beyond ez to crank out trash gets made because investments not worth it from larger publishers/developers.
>being this mad that someone called VR a shit on a korean fingerpainting board
...
too expensive + every game is a tech demo
give it like 10 years
Tech journos are people with far more money than sense which alliws them to afford and shill useless cyber-goggles.
>Casual shitposting
>going full umad-tard
never go full umad-tard user.
For what it does, it shouldn't have been more than 60$ desu. I don't know why they went so jew mode on the thing, considering the price range is so exaggeratedly inflated.
Oh this one is 750, nvm, this is 300. Goes to show that it can easily be even less.
But you clearly are mad.
The question is, why though? Why do people calling VR shit on Sup Forums trigger you so much?
>Korean finger painting board
I dont know why that tickled me.
>Requires users to devote a large open playing space of their property
>A high end PC
>Expensive VR headset
>Constant reconfiguration / updates / firmware
Then of all those users that pass the above criterea, over half of them get motion sickness from artificial locomotion, which means the only games you can play are shooting galleries and shitty problem solving puzzles.
Picking stuff up off the floor all the time isn't fun. VR sucks, I should've sold off my vive when I had the chance.
>continuing umad-tard posting
user....
Reminder that this was a reply to me that you typed out:
>I know you want that big hose in your anus, to suck out the feces user, you don't need to mention it.
You wanna keep telling me that you aren't mad? And if you are truly not mad... Why are you still here?
3.6 million is pretty low
I play my rift everyday, finishing twilight princess in VR dolphin right now, with supersampling shit looks amazing *given you have a powerful PC
> *given you have a powerful PC
And there lies the true problem.
It was to your matrix reference - you know swimming in this bubble of your own feces.
I know it's hard for you people who came over from reddit, so I don't even expect you to be witty.
But at least don't go mentally bankrupt by posting "lol u mad" when you face some shitposting banter.
>Why are you still here?
I'm a huge faggot and actually enjoy myself shitposting on burmese bitmap boards
>no games
>shooting gallery minigames
>unity asset dumps
>costs too much
>oculus exclusives/anti-competition
>poisioning the well with shit VR headsets like cardboard or gear vr
He's right though, look up the actual definition of VR, true VR requires immersion in all 5 senses. All these companies just use VR as a buzzword to sell their $700 viewfinders.
>i'm just shitposting lol i aint mad
>but i'm going to keep replying to you to prove that i aint mad
>Oh cool VR thats neat
>Okay I got the headset lets play some games
>Literally no fucking games besides indie trash
>Not a single major game series has seen a significant release on VR besides Resident Evil
If a triple A company released a major entry in a major franchise for VR it would see people flocking to it
As it is the library is enthusiast only
Sure, the games are pretty fun. But shot's boring. Where are the games I would play on my PC/Ps4 normally?
Also
>Nintendo isn't in the market yet
Admit that this is a large factor to attach rates for gimmicks.
They have a monopoly on the gimmicks market.
Thanks for the self awareness at least.
Wow, I only have to wait my entire life for VR to actually be worth it! Incredible!
>oculus exclusives
that you can play with the vive too with revive...
too expensive
oh, and overpriced games for the amount of content (e.g., $30 for 30 minutes of gameplay)
>the "VR is expensive so the games must be expensive" meme
>predicted it would be at least 10 years before vr could even begin to make it into the mainstream due to hardware and financial barriers
>all my friends and Sup Forums give me shit about it
>5 years later there's still no market for vr other than for streamers and richbois
goddamn it feels good to not be retarded
>he's still replying to me
Clearly he isn't mad.
...
not officially supported, doesn't rule out the fact that oculus is paying off developers and trying to make a walled garden
and for a while they were actively updating their DRM to prevent revive but backed off when they started dying
That's the thing though, no AAA company in the right mind is going to make a major VR game because NO ONE HAS THE EQUIPMENT
The market is barely saturated with the baseline consoles, no one is going to want to pay $750 on top of that for one game
It didn't fail. I have a Rift and it is absolutely amazing for DCS. Works great for Arma too.
However, everything else for it is hot garbage. People who bought VR headsets hoping they're be regular games on them threw away their money.
Hard drives were practical for consumers.
VR isn't, not until commercially available VR headsets can do Matrix level of VR.
idk its still a good change of pace to traditional gaming. I never thought it was going to be the main platform of gaming and I doubt it ever will be.
it's not that steep of a price even for something you might only pick up a couple times a week. get a real job and enjoy your vidya wholesomely ;>
