Are 720p monitors worth the hype?

...

Nah, HD is a gimmick right now, won't catch on for another few years.

800x600 is a fucking hyper. Don't buy them.

>1366x768

wtf m8

This board is 18+.

1280x800 master race

It sucks, I used to have an ancient 1280x1024 monitor and even that had more pixels than HD ones.

Woah, 720p is way too much. The human eye can only see 640x480.

1360x768 master race

I know you're memeing, but the human eye can probably not tell the difference between a 4K and a 1080p monitor of the same size unless they are really, really large.

Source: I'm an optometrist

>Chop off the upper half of a normal monitor
>call it widescreen
4:5 is already widely used, nobody's going to convert to this retarded shit and even if they did it wouldn't work with older games.

>really, really large
24" isn't LARGE and you can see a huge difference even between 1080p and 1440p at that size, what the fuck are you on about

You think you can see a difference.

I know, you charlatan

Bitches don't know about my syncmaster
>2048x1536@75Hz
And 85Hz with resolutions below that. CRT is the only proper choice.

Fuck I'm jelly.

I can see the difference on my 5'5 inch phone.

>WRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

You're hallucinating; it's legit a placebo.

Keep on going Neil deGrasse Tyson
>you're not ALLOWED to believe

>only 18.5" diagonal
You'll never please anyone with equipment that tiny.

You can't see the difference between your monitor and your phone?

You sound exactly like my dad.

You sound exactly like a retard.

>all this underage ITT
Everybody was excited about 720p and even 1080p was more hype than 4k now.

diminishing returns, highly diminishing returns

this, and why are 16:10 monitors so expensive now days?

>1280x1024 CRT master race

Better times, better times...

Niche market and they probably feel that they can overcharge for them since normies don't care about that resolution and they won't get any real backlash

What is the best monitor resolution for running newer console ports? What would you recommend?
Native PC games usually have no issues supporting any resolution, but I hear ports are more picky.

our eyes can't even see resolutions over 480p

>but the human eye can probably not tell the difference between a 4K and a 1080p monitor of the same size unless they are really, really large

I can, 1on1 me faggot

you're a hack

+1
fucking TV instead of proper monitor

>5:4 resolution on a 4:3 display

Check what year it is

On my 55inch television 5 ft away from my sofa the differences between 1080p, 1440p, and 2160p are all starkly obvious.

vidya gaems

>all this poorfags in this thread

>if you don't act like a retard you're below 18

Kill yourself
>user you can't see the difference between 4k and 1080p on your 24" monitor because I said so

>1680 x 1050
>16:10
>22 inches
>wonderful quality
>Hasn't broken once in 10 years
This monitor is fucking amazing

you're placebo

I still have 17" Belinea, nigger is ancient and fantastic for cs go

3460 x 1440 master race

4k took a while to gain traction because for movies and tv streaming services are the only practical way to deliver it and as for gaming 4k rigs are only just becoming affordable.

I've been exclusively using 4k for a while now on a 7970ghz and 2500k at 30fps.

Still using a 1600x900 60hz monitor and games look great. You can't fool me with your memes.

conversely many games which only rendered at 4:3 supported 1280x1024 because most displays were 4:3

>buy a 1080p monitor to develop a game
>and then play that game at 240p in software mode because your computer sucks

jej, enjoy getting a monster gpu to run games at that resolution.

The colors will fade sooner or later. Display technology won't ever advance as far as to match CRT (inb4 crappy OLEDs)

>software mode

How did that term come up anyway?
Whatever runs on a GPU is software as well.

My laptop is this resolution. I have 300+ steam games and don't notice much of a difference. Fuck spending money on a rig when I can buy games instead.

If the guy is an optometrist I'll take his word over some random asshole on the internet. My friend got a big-ass (50"+ screen) 4k tv during black friday for $600 and it looks phenomenal. If it were like my 32" 1080p tv, I wouldn't think it'd be any different than a smart tv though. It looks great at such a size because he had a normal smart tv that was slightly smaller before that one so I can compare them.

This is not funny. I still use a 5:4 1280 x 1024 and I hate 16:9. Life is hard.

>21:9 is becoming more used than 5:4

>He doesn't have 3000x2000 for glorious spreadsheet making, what PC's are truly intended for

when you're up close and can make out the pixel grid, it's a massive giveaway

FUUUUUCK. You are right. We are going even wider. Nooo, my square view nostalgia!

By the time I go 16:9 1080p people will be using 8k 21:9 480Hz. Such is life in the zone.

...

I play most of my games in 240p, but modern games get the 1280x960 treatment. Sometimes 16:9 is the only option so I just letterbox that shit.

then you should quit your fucking job

>I play most of my games in 240p
like pong and dwarf fortress ?

19 inches? the fuck man, 15" is more than enough. 16:9 is a gimmick, 4:3 will be there for at least a decade, man

CRT monitors look great on any resolution, mate.

Because it didn't have dedicated hardware for the tasks.

I remember playing sims 2 on a 21" CRT at nearly 4k resolution. I also remember how my cpu fan was fucked at the time and I put a radiator (on cool setting) next to my open case so I had more time before the cpu overheated eventually and I had to wait for it to cool down.

if my kid ever does shit like that, that'd be a paddlin'

Ubisoft, go away

>I'll trust me science man
Kill yourself. I sit 3 feet from my monitor. I can tell the difference, and anybody who can't is a retard. Hell, I even see aliasing in games still at 24" at 4k

>Hell, I even see aliasing in games still at 24" at 4k
If I switched monitors of the same size, made you trial about 30 different monitors, and made half say, 2K (just to humour you) at that size, you'd probably only guess half right, like a coin toss.

gosh i'm glad you made up a scenario where you would PROBABLY be right based on your own judgement of what he sees

It would be an objective way to test his own resolution.

The dedicated hardware would be the CPU.

They did this on LTT between 60hz and 120hz with 5 monitors and he was able to tell the difference every time.

Shit senpai, my fw900 id dying

whats a good 21-23 inch monitor that has 144hz refresh rate?

If I told you to kill yourself one more time, maybe you'd do it
