Fallout 1 Thread

First thing, fuck nostalgia goggles - I love this game. It's still playable and good.

Second - I have a problem. Took fast shooter perk. Went for small guns and energetic weapons but have low STR. My best guns are Deagle, Shotgun and Plasma Pistol. I have Ian, Tycho and Meatdog. Level 6.
I can't kill those goddamn Deathclaws in Boneyard. Can't aim for eyes. Any tips on how to kill them or at least what equipment/level do I need?

Small guns at 100, energy weapons at 30. 9 Agility, 9 Perception, 4 Strength. Can't even properly use Hunting Rifle.

sorry Sup Forums is too young to have played this

Quite sad.

Lol why don't you just play Fallout 4 instead.

I can't think of a single case where it would make more sense to play an older release in a videogame series over a new one. Go with the times

IIRC, you don't need to meet a weapon's strength requirement in order to equip and use it. All it does is incur an accuracy penalty, which can be made up for easily with some extra skill points.

Even so, I'd just wait until you have better equipment. Since you have low strength, the .223 pistol is the likely your closest option. You can buy it at the Hub. If you have high luck, you could also probably get the Alien Blaster through random encounters; though keep in mind the time limit.

Once you get power armor, many more of the best weapons will become available because of the strength bonus it'll give to your character. All you need is a high repair skill to get a free T-51b from the Brotherhood. You're gonna need 2 Rad-Xs to do their quest and become a member, though.

If you have any more questions, here's a complete guide on absolutely everything in the game.

I love the combat in 1 and 2 so much more than the newer games

have you been to the glow yet? grab 3 radx, 2 radaway and a rope in hub and start heading south
when you arrive take 2 radx and start going down
look for keycards and watch your radiation levels, take radaway if you start hurting

at the lowest part of the facility there are several lockers filled with top tier weapons, they should be enough to take down the deathclaws

Played it over the weekend. I have to admit that it's a great lootshooter. I hate open world though. I spend 80% of time just walking. Ironically F1/2 are packed and condensed.
Imagine them if instead of using world map they'd ask you to walk trough empty locations. This is what new Fallouts offer.
I still may pick F4 on new sale.

Forgot that .223 pistol is strong as fuck. Thanks mate. May have to do some other quests before as well. Brotherhood/Glow sounds fine.

>You can buy it at the Hub
It's a unique quest item in Fallout 1. If you have lots of Luck, you might also come across the car mart encounter where you can get the ludicrously powerful BB gun, which is also a fine choice.

How to beat the robobrains after you talk to Zax?
I've got Pancor, Hunting rifle, Deagle, Minigun and Rex and Ian.
Level five, by the way.

Step up your bait fampai. Next time just call the old game ugly and outdated and praise the new one.

2 > 1 >>>>> power gap >>>>>> NV > 3 > 4

I think Fallout 4 is better

good to see someone on this board is still sane

I think there are some emp grenades stashed around the base
otherwise use the hunting rifle, shoot them once or twice, then run back to cover
or
try to bait one of them in a room with your companions and attack all at once

>Dude pop-culture references lmao

Hit them one by one
Abuse the transition area by fighting right next to it so when the deathclaw gets near you, you flee towards the boneyard, heal up and fight them again.
Rinse and repeat

I've never played FO1/2 but any time anyone brings them up, without fail, someone says something like this
>pop culture dude lmao
is it really that bad?

>Main Story
1 > NV > 2 > 3 > 4
>Sidequests
2 > NV > 1 > 3 > 4
>Combat
2 > 1 > 4 > NV > 3

F2 had so much more content it made F1 look like a demo

Incorrect
1=NV>2>>tactics>3>4>>>>BOS

I don't even have a problem with spamming F4/F5, but Rex constantly dying is annoying, I don't give a fuck about Ian, so I'll use him as a bait.

>combat
>1 and 2 over anything

2 > 1 > NV >>>>> power gap >>>>>> 3 > 4

Well Ian and Rex canonically die

>It's still playable and good.

Can we stop with the outdated meme already.

he's called Dogmeat

Yeah, in the Mariposa, and one of them I think in the Boneyard.

i played fallout 1 and 2 for the first time last month and finished them

get fucked millenial

There are some joke encounters most of which you won't ever see unless you invest in specific useless skill (exploration I think). People upset with FO2 often conveniently forget how much humour was in FO1, it had memes too:
youtube.com/watch?v=YLc1NfJDgVk

Those were just the special encounters. Fallout 2 had pop culture references throughout the entire game.

Is the Power Fist from the Gun Runners strong enough to kill super mutants with?

What are you even saying? I'd agree with you, you dumb retard. Learn some reading comprehension.

you said Fallout 1 and 2 weren't playable and good
he's saying they are playable and good

Yeah, that never happened in FO1
fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_cultural_references

It's a game with a central theme of a destroyed world that tries to rebuild itself, is it really so weird to you that various characters reminiscence about the good ol' pre-war days?

First time I played Fallout 2 was in 2010 so no nostalgia. Now it has to be one of my favourite games.

I trying to get into this game but the combat is so slow that I think I must be doing something wrong.
I have high ag and low str, using the 10mm and I can only get in one shot per round.
Does the time unit cost increase if I don't make a weapon's str threshold?

I didn't say that. I'm saying he's validating the concept of games becoming outdated by saying it like 'it's still playable and good'.

The whole notion that games and good games at that become outdated is fucking retarded. Especially when there are probably people (no matter how few in number they are) posting here that are older than the entire medium itself.

Is there a way to play this on my phone?

Yes, there is an application for RPG and Strategy games, I forgot the name. Just google Arcanum on android.

This list is over five times as long

>meatdog

Probably the best fallout game overall still, but it isn't as mechanically strong as 2. Better start certainly though. I played 1 long after playing 3 and NV too.
2 Could have been great but the writing and favor was so inconsistent.

1 > NV > 2 > 3 > 4 for the ones I've actually played

What is the best tabletop Fallout game?

Go into Preferences and increase the combat speed

If I recall correctly, failing to meet the requirement just makes you "unable to control the weapon" or something which wildly reduces your accuracy. The beginning just is kinda like that unless you have 10 agility and/or the fast shot trait, it gets a bit better as the game progresses.

gonna replay this, what stats should I go with?

Is there a game except Fallout and Arcanum that uses this kind of system? I dislike early D&D (later ones had things from Fallout, actually) and PoE systems, but VtM, Fallout, and especially Arcanum have perfect systems.

9 strength, 9 Endurance, punch the wastelands to death

Agility is very important

Are you having high luck?
Are you using aimed shots or just randomly blasting at the enemy?

Always aim for either the eyes (chance to blind or instagib) or groin (chance to drop and skip several turns, also gives you 100% accuracy for further shots). Try to get at least 50% stealth so you can get reasonably close to the enemies before making the first shot.

Does Arcanum play similarly to FO1-2? If so I'd be much more tempted to try it. Nothing wrong with Baldur's Gate and kin, I just enjoy Fallout more.

Yes, it's very similar

i didn't try to face the Deathclaws in 1 until i got combat armor and combat shotgun.

burst from the combat shottie point blank can usually maim a deathclaw if it doesn't kill it.

Arcanum has both real time Diablo-esque mode and turn-based AP mode, both suck because the game is unfinished.

Whenever you praise sn old game, people go hurr durr nostalgia goggles.
That's what I refered to. People are telling me my taste is bad because I just think about the fun I've had ~15 years ago.
Nope. Game is still fun.

Can you recommend me videos about RPGs and their systems, or history of RPGs?
Like Josh Sawyer and Tim Cain on GDC.

ToEE from the same studio.
Divinity: Original Sin

Reminds me to make sure I always have at least one weapon that has a burst feature, that's usually enough to kill anything you might have had trouble with elsewise.

ToEE is D&D, D:OS' system is closer to D&D than these games.

Nothing is more satisfying than having a high strength and endurance character, drugging him up, and having him punch everything to a fine red paste.

a low Int run ended up being way better than I thought it would be

The combat is considerably worse. Still a great game tho.

I only with F1 could get some F2 QoL changes.
The best example is bartering with your allies. The only way to use them as mules is to steal shit from them after giving it for free. Annoying as hell especially when your char has low Steal.

NV >>>>>>>> shit >>>>> 3 and 4 >>>>> 1 and 2

New Vegas is not only the best Fallout but the only good game that has been released in the last 10 years.

>fallout 2 is good
Stop this

Unfinished, buggy, random dice rolls bullshit the game is what it is. Fallout 1 and Vegas are the only good ones and you all know it.
2, 3 and 4 are really shit.

>1 doesn't have almost the exact same RNG as 2

Melee/Unarmed + Bloody Mess = fun and games.

Is it possible to install Fallout FIXT on F1 GOG version? Can't find anything about that over internet.

Yes

Where can I find Fallout Big Boxes in Europe for a fair price?

2 was great go eat a dick fagget

Just started the original first time ever, planning on skipping 2, 3, NV and play 4 instead, as I bough it from the sale this weekend. Anyone recommend against this?

>skipping the best games and a mediocre one for the shittiest game in the series

lmfao

Yes, 4 is the worst game in the series outside of BoS.

they are weak to fire so use a flamer

wow literally NO fucking one mentioned this before now
yall are some nut scrubbers for real

mfw they died at those spots in my playthough

I had no idea...poor Ian got roasted by the flamer mutie and dogmeat the idiot got done by a force field

at this point you should be able to buy the plasma caster from the Gun Runners, but sinc you have

>low STR

you're a bit fucked m8, go to the Brotherhood and increase your str, or go to the hub and do the question for the guy in the ruins below Bob's Iguana bits, he'll give you the Blade Runner gun, aka. the best small weapon in the game

Please elaborate why 4 is inferior to 3/NV? 2 seems just an extension to 1, and I might play this one as well.

>2 seems just an extension to 1
Thats an understatement. 2 is about 5-6 times larger than 1 and much more elaborate in it's dialogues and quests.

This.

>start new game
>leave vault and head towards shady sands
>stop halfway there because of event
>get wierd BB gun
>combat becomes easy
WWWWWWOOOOOWWWW

you'll shoot your eyes out kid!

>he thinks 2 is better than 1

>he thinks 1 is better than 2

>fast shooter
It's complete shit until you get turbo plasma rifle, but then you can outdamage anything even without crits.

>They think 4 is the worst

>he thinks 4 isnt

How the hell do you have the pancor in fallout 1?

two is the best "cavalier oblique" fallout

NV is the best 3d fallout

1 is a good place to start, the play 2, then play FNV

then just stop.
