What are some poorly received/unhyped games from last gen that are low budget and obviously flawed but with charm and personality? This is like my favorite game on PS3 and after playing all the big buzzed games on the system I realize this is the direction I need to go.

I've got you senpai, are you locked to PS3 or do you have a 360?

Pic related and Yakuza 5
See: youtube.com/watch?v=5Yl8t6o85sw

PS3 only I'm afraid, I've been thinking about getting a 360 though so if you have any recs for that system I'll definitely take them to heart.

Not specifically just that almost all of these shoddy B-games run much better on the 360.

In what fucking world is a Yakuza game low budget or unhyped?

Timeshift should also be included in with this.

Is that the one with the qte final boss? I vaguely recall raging at that for a significant amount of time.

>In what fucking world is a Yakuza game low budget or unhyped?
It took almost 4 years for an English localization. The game didn't take off in the west especially considering it released in 2015 when most people moved onto the PS4.

Haven't played either but I'm sure Timeshift or Singularity were halfway decent shooters.

I only wish Legendary was good.

Have you played Killer is dead? Is the way to go. And play some Nier, too.

Inversion, Folklore, Hellboy : The Science of Evil, Starhawk, Majin and the Forsake Kingdom, Resonance of Fate and most especially pic related.

Have fun OP theres alot to love once you start digging.

I got it from my gf. She told me that the gamestop employees where giving her some wierd looks for buying..

Can't speak for the others on your list, but Hellboy is a total load of shit.

GS employees are often thirsty self hating virgins user. They were probably just lusting after her.

Fucking Gamestop.

Folklore sucks, too. Wonderful art direction, tho.

Most of Ravens back catalogue, someone already mentioned Singularity, fuck that was great.

I miss Raven.

I think it got a free pass from me just for being Hellboy. Its really fucking rough though I totally accept that.

...

Jeah, fucking gamestop.. felt bad that they hassled her for it. But she is quiet witty, and asked them what's wrong with a sexy female protagonist that kicks ass.

It has some neat ideas.

Dude thank you I forgot I picked this up at a pawn shop the other day.

You're lying, but I believe you. What happened next, did they fuck like my chinese porn drawings?

I started playing Deadly Premonition recently, and yeah it's definitely got an undeniable charm

This game was totally fun. It's a shame that most people didn't know it even existed at the time. It had the best badass qtes in a game and captured the sense of speed like the Jason bourne movies.

I hope you enjoy Rubis game. It has no right being as fun as it is, repetitive and brown but actually quite satisfying.

If you liked Max Payne you will like this

kinda weird the guy who wrote that went on to make Guardians of the Galaxy

...

Yakuza games are Realy low budget compared to other Sega games.

They managed to shit one every year because the team makes then with love.

I don't really get buyer's remorse, but I bought Killer is Dead and Lollipop Chainsaw together and found both really disappointing.

>went on to make Guardians of the Galaxy

And real Yakuza money.

I still think Shadows of the Damned was the best Grasshopper game of the last generation.

This game is also awesome but can suffer from being 3edgy5me

Actually Shadow of the Damned should be on this list anyway.

...

>OST

I don't think that means what you think it means

>this game bankrupt Midway

I've heard good things about this game, I don't usually like horror games but reading its wikipedia page it sounds like it's up my alley.

It killed a pretty promising developer as well. Shame.

Maybe hes talking about the Yamaoka tracks?

I wouldn't say it is a horror game. Obviously (and seriously) flawed but with lots of charm is the perfect way to describe it though.

If you've seen Super, you can tell James Gunn knows what he's doing

Midway was the developer too.

IIRC despite the game being solid, it didn't sell too great, and they went way, WAY overbudget. They had no chance of making the money back, and the game hit bargain bins in record time because of it.

The Studio then, the people that made Psi-Ops made Stranglehold. I wonder where they all went.

I played through darksector five or so times.

It was really fun.

I still remember the retarded nontroversy around this one

...

Spent over 60 hours playing it.

Still one of the funniest games ever made

I played the shit out of this, I wish I could purchase it to play again, but I haven't found it in any bargain bins. I lucked out and found a KuF game though.

I wish from would revive Tenchu. I still can't believe they struck gold with the Souls series.

I really like this game even though it's extremely easy, what was the nontroversy? I don't remember.
Love Typing of the Dead, I think the reason I liked Lollipop Chainsaw so much is that everything about it (the beat-em-up gameplay, the zombie theme, the campiness) made me feel like I was playing a Dreamcast game.

Bitch took muh skull

it was back when "there are no female protagonists" was the complaint dujour, the guy in charge of development even fired back saying that the kids they tested the game with didn't care or even notice the lack of a female mc option

THQ during their final years really went out with a bang

Lolipop chainsaw, at least on Sup Forums, was massively hyped. There were threads about it 24/7

Fiddy would let his kid play the game when it was being developed and then listen to his feedback.

His kid wanted helicopters in the game, even though it was getting on towards the end of development the team had to go and put a couple of helicopter boss battles in.

Blaze of Glory.

It feels like there's no argument at all when you consider Kutaro didn't even speak. Pikarina was pretty clearly the biggest character in the game at least from a writing standpoint, even though Kutaro was the MC.

And now that I think about it, she could be controlled by a player 2, couldn't she?

>Name game wet
>Person on cover is dry

Pandemic did not deserve to die.

stranglehold is fantastic, it's a shame nobody bought it

...

Fun as fuck co-op. Edgy as it looks.

I hope you have a spare set of eyeballs cos yours are going to be bleeding after playing this.

I would argue that they may be low budget but they arent poorly recieved by any means. Yakuza is very popular in japland

lpc is brainless fun. Enjoyed the first time through but never wish to replay

I think so, the whole thing was the last nail in the coffin for the whole "people can't identify with characters that don't look like them" argument as far as I'm concerned

nah but you could controll her with the right stick and light up stuff to find secrets

i heard it came out in the same timeframe as gta 5 the poor fucker simply had no chance

Oh okay. I thought it was a thing where a second person could float her around and actually pick up stuff so the primary player wouldn't have to run around collecting everything.

I enjoyed this game but it needed to have a much smaller map. Way too much repetitive side content.

Yakuza 5 got acclaimed when it came out here which is annoying because it's the worst one in the series.

I'm about the only person in the world who liked that game.

You know of any games similar to it? I really liked the whole custom ninja shtick. Way of the samurai comes close, but that's a bit overt.

Ah, yes. The shovelware thread.

>I repeat words I've heard without understanding what they mean: the post

>tfw gromit will never be your dog

>I use ad-hominem arguments because I'm missing a frontal lobe
oh wow

Made me smile, good post

...

Earlier than last gen, but Advent Rising. It had lag issues on occasion, and there were complaints about the aiming system, but neither of those things were really an issue to me.

It gave you a great sense of power without it being too easy, story was an interesting take on human potential, and the soundtrack is probably the best video game music I've ever heard.

Maybe they meant her pussy.

>last gen
user...

it's the GOAT soundtrack

This needs a remaster for all 3.

Good luck finding a copy.
Please eat the biggest dick you can find.

I can't really call PS4/Xbone a new gen since its mostly the same with upgraded graphics and quality assurance, just like how the Pro/Scorpio is just extra frames.

By comparison PS2 to PS3 was a huge leap.

I wish it wasn't such an anti-climax. Would have been better off without Killabilly and fuckface chinaman.

Old obscure J-horror is best horror.
I just played pic related in the morning.

It received above average reviews and even sold decently, at least the first one, but it was forgotten pretty quickly. Beautiful art and a surprisingly good story. Shame, the platformimg is a bit wonky but still good.

One of two games to ever make me cry. I cried not once, but twice playing it too.

Thats fucking gay bro...

Thanks bro.

Shinobido comes to mind.

I swear this inspired Warframe, was there any dev crossover or is it just similar art design?

Shame it's on 360 only.

Acquire ported a couple of games to PC, maybe other series will make it too.

Don't forget to grow your beard and spy through windows
