Witcher 3

First time playing a Witcher game. This chick Yen is meant to be the Witchers love but I just don't see anything special. This Triss girl is far warmer a person. Whats the big deal about Yen?

>another retard gets roped in by a manipulative bitch simply because she appears to be warmer

lol

Wanting girls that fawn over you is the true pleb taste in waifus and real life.

>First time playing a Witcher game
Why do people do this shit? I would never play games out of order, especially when the story is so essential.

She's just tsundere at first because she doesn't know wether their love is real or just a product of magic. She warms up a lot after you do a certain quest in Skellige.

the witcher series was too hyped up for me at the time.
Why do you think a girl that doesn't give a shit about you is a good thing?

>the witcher series was too hyped up for me at the time.
You are genuinely retarded.

Basically what this user said. In the books their love is a product of a magical djinn spell. Also, they don't have much contact with each other and are in kind of an open relationship.

Triss is literally a traitor.
Don't trust Triss.

Hope so, so far I see nothing of value in her. I', about level 18 now and I have a mission with Triss called Now or Never. How long is it before i get locked into a love interest thing? I kissed her at the party.

Yen is madly in love with Geralt though. Some banter between both of them doesn't change that.

Can somebody convince me to either purchase or not purchase this game. I've looked at gameplay and screenshots and etc. and I'm on the fence about it. Is it worth £17.

>Why do you think a girl that doesn't give a shit about you is a good thing?

>doesn't understand that a girl can be in complete love with you without them kissing your arse 24/7

Yen and Geralt are both a little bit autistic due to their solitary and distrusted lifestyles, so they both can't into relationships properly. That said, they'd each die for each other amidst the bants.

>But its a djinn spell
The djinn spell tied their "destinies", the love is its own thing. TW3 addresses this.

>Triss is warmer
Triss is a lot younger and was jealous that Yen had an emotional, "real" relationship so she promptly tried to insert herself when the two were split up. She's in love with the idea of being in love.

In TW1 when Geralt is amnesiac, she acts/dresses like Yen so as to make Geralt think she was the sorceress of his past (it's spelled out in the manual).

I met Yen for like 5 minutes. The two witchers were tracking her for over half a year with not so much as a letter telling them shes fine. The she shows up and shits on both of them and you think this points to love? Triss is obviously best.

>manual
Shit, I meant the log/codex/whatever. It says something like "I was in love with a sorceress and I think it was Triss".

Also, bitch sold you out to the Sorceresses to advance her own agenda while (likely) fucking other sorceresses.

This. Any opinion is irrelevant. Facts matters.

Oh I didn't know that. So in the previous games she grooms Geralt to be her projection of love?

name one time triss manipulates you
triss is canon, yenfags are empirically wrong.

>The two witchers were tracking her for over half a year with not so much as a letter telling them shes fine.
Geralt started tracking her BECAUSE he got a letter from her.

Yeah, she could have done something sooner (and you can call her out on this), but she was sperging out that you were banging Triss.

Yen is a shit. Triss is a cute. Don't trust Yenfag lies.

keep going with yen and you'll find out

What is the point of shitposting like this when everyone already know who the canon woman is?
Retard underage

Basically, when Geralt was split with Yen (pre-book), she seduces him and is always trying to stay close afterwards. She does this because she's enthralled by the idea of a loving, emotional, "real" relationship since all of hers are shit and she was jealous of Yen.

When he gets amnesia at the start of TW1, she jumps at the opportunity with Yen out of the way to say nothing about Yen and, yes, basically position herself to make Geralt only think about her. Many of her dialogue lines are literally things Yen says from the book so it's possible Triss is playing it up even more. It's not until TW2 that she reveals anything and by then they've been together for some time.

However, you could also argue that some of her personality in TW1 was the devs trying to stay "noncanonical" and thus Triss is just an amalgam of Yen/Philippa because she's a stand-in for all the others as the devs try to tell a similar story. That said, the polish game journal talks about Geralt thinking Triss was the sorc from his past so it's clear she's trying shit.

In the book "Lady of the lake" Geralt seemed to have stronger feelings towards Fringilla than Triss.

Triss's is soon (regardless of the party kiss). You'll know it when you see it.

ahhh I see. She kind of won my trust when she let them pull her finger nails out for me and had I played witcher 1 and 2 I'd have know something was up?

>not choosing neither
In the books books triss sleeps with lambert and yen cheats on geralt

>i'm so illiterate i can't even read the books
Y E N S H I T S
B T F O

it's worth a lot more than that. playability for hours and hours and hours

Except for that time that Geralt mentioned Yennefer's name when he and Fringilla were having sex

I really like that part. By that time in the story (of books and games), Triss clearly has some genuine care for Geralt and Ciri - she's not trying to trick you there with her offer of sacrifice. The only hint by TW3 time is that you two are broken up and she started mentioning that she had taken advantage of you (when you first meet her in Novigrad). Geralt doesn't push the issue despite knowing what she means, because he's too nice about it (something Yen mentions in the books and says Geralt might not fuck Triss up for it, but she will).

What I think is kind of bullshit is that if you do the areas in order, you're not going to see Geralt/Yen's old couple chemistry on Skellige until after all the parts with Triss.

He always liked Triss, but he didn't love her in the books. Fringilla was just a fling, though.

You are a literal cuck if you choose Triss.

>and yen cheats on geralt
Is it cheating if Geralt sleeps around a lot too? They have a messed up on-and-off relationship until shit hits the fan and they have to protect their surrogate daughter.

What kind of dumb retards starts a series with the last game?

Probably more than 50% of people who played Witcher 3. I hope you realize Witcher 3 sold way more than Witcher 1 and 2 which means most of these people never played the first 2 games. Also, a vast majority of console players probably started with W3.

i played 200+ hours in W3 before the DLC
finally got round to downloading that
still having a great time
buy it user, you won't regret it. there's kind of a hump in terms of story, if you find yourself getting a bit bored early on then persevere and keep going, the game opens up hugely after a bit.

Which is some bullshit because a game as character-driven as TW really benefits from knowing the characters' history together.

TW3 does a decent job to keep you up to speed even without the books, but you really should try to read them first too.

I chose Triss just because Yen's horrendously overdone Queen's English accent made my ears bleed.

>Why do people do this shit? I would never play games out of order, especially when the story is so essential.
The order doesn't matter. Prequels are a thing for a reason.

That's also nothing compared to what Yen went through in the books. She had to endure blunt force, harmful chemicals and magic for months but she never revealed Ciri's location.

The reason is
>muh books

Get used to it because it's the reason for most of the shit in that game.

lmaooo

Does Geralt actually love Triss? In W2 Philipa mentions the rose of remembrance he gave to Triss is dying, wouldnt that mean he doesnt really love her?

>f you do the areas in order, you're not going to see Geralt/Yen's old couple chemistry on Skellige until after all the parts with Triss.

this fucked me, i romanced triss because why not, it's fun, then in skellige realised how much bants there is between yen and geralts, but by that point i'd already sealed the deal. i only found out (by googling) what happens if you romance both after i'd finished the triss one so i was locked in by then unless i want a shit ending.

anyway i'm replaying it and choosing yen this time just to see all the bits i missed. yen reminds me of an ex gf i had so it's pretty fun to play.

Or that the magic around it is just a myth, but I think that's accurate. Geralt can't into feelings well and I don't think he did anything more than like her (a lot). Yen's the one he comes back to.

Not to mention it was after a suicide mission to try to protect Geralt and Ciri.

>complains about voice-acting
>chose Triss
That's also the voice actress' regular accent.

I'm pretty sure it's cheating that one time when she drags Geralt to her house in Vengerberg so she can secretly fuck him and her other bf at the same time.

you can find it in triss's apartment in W3 and it's dead

if i remember correctly the rose can be used to charm other people and that is how saskia was controlled in W2. some people suggested triss did something of the sort on geralt

Man, I really wish Vilgefortz had appeared in some form or another in at least Blood and Wine, maybe some kind of powerful specter who haunts Beauclair and that the quest would lead Geralt to the ruins of Stygga Castle. And I also wanted to see Cahir, Milva and Angouleme again, and for some part of Witcher 3 to have had the scene at the end of Swallow's Tower where Ciri fights Rience and the trappers with the ice skates (which CDPR said they wanted to put in the game at some point) That as a playable segment would've been amazing

Extremely fucking cheating. She did plan to break up with him (and still does) immediately afterwards, but god damn.

Geralt is also the one who, after a year of living together, randomly fucked off out of nowhere and left her before that, so he's hardly blameless.

>some people suggested triss did something of the sort on geralt
She didn't have the rose in TW1, did she?

if you reject her in W2 you get a perk called resistance to magic. the theory comes from that

I dunno, I don't like bringing dead people back too much. I'd rather see new stories than just trampling back over the old concluded one.

I wish they had balanced more segments for Ciri's gameplay (and fleshed it out more), but she was a calamitous mary sue in the books and she's only gotten more absurd now.

I would've loved to have revisited Cintra and gone into the Sedna Abyss on a boat, which isn't that far away from Skellige

Maybe I should give Yen a chance then. I have noticed the way Triss speaks is manipulative. She got pissy with me in the Now or Never mission when I went for the "maybe ill do it later " option. Was Ciri in the previous games?

It wouldn't be bringing him back exactly, more like a specter or wraith who retains some of his personality and desire for revenge. Regis came back, though not through his natural regeneration, and that was great to see him again

>first time playing a witcher game
>only talks about the waifushit

lol, proof this game is devoid of interesting content, hang yourself.

Ciri is not in the previous games (just in almost all books). However, TW1 has a "ciri-lite" character. Several of the TW1-specific characters are references to the books, as is the overall arc of the plot.

There's a very clear "point of no return" mission to go forward into the last third of the game or so. You can put off any of the romance quests up to that point - so you can leave Triss chilling while you do some Yen stuff.

Cool, never seen that. Good to know.

That's more a reflection of the person playing it, and not the game. Out of all the quests in the game, the ones that deal with romantic elements is severely outnumbered by ones that deal with monster hunting, politics, unfinished plot threads from the books, and other miscellanea.

I suppose. I'll admit, I didn't like Regis coming back either. The books made it seem clear that Vilgefortz had atomized his ass, but if anyone would come back, it'd be him.

NO. THEIR LOVE ISN'T.

geralt wished for yen to get whatshe wanted most. which was a stupidly open ended and manipulateable wish. that the djinn twisted by giving her geralt as a soul mate

One of her long time friends proposed to her and offered to cure her infertility, which was her entire goal in the first half of the saga. The whole point of that short story is that love is a gift that you have to repay in order to keep. Yen knew she couldn't repay Istredd's love, so she had sex with him as a final goodbye before leaving Geralt as well since he never repaid Yen's love and even refuses to verbally confirm his affection for her.

Just fuck em both. Thats what I did.

>Geralt made up the "of Rivia" part of his name
>gets into a battle where he defends a bridge with the help of the armies of Queen Meve of Lyria and Rivia
>for his valor and bravery, is officially knighted by the queen as Sir Geralt of Rivia

He wished for their destinies to be bound, so the Djinn couldn't destroy Yen without having to go beyond its scope to destroy Geralt as well.

The fact that someone, anyone, had been willing to do something like that for a solitary bitch like Yen melted her a little, so they got together (for awhile...)

>Let the bitch be while you do other stuff
Sounds like a plan.

It's a game retcon. Also, I thought the exact wish was unknown.

>immediately defects

the djinn twisted the wish and bound their souls together. so they don't love each other because of the spell, but because they ARE soul mates. the djinn altered reality. they are THAT powerful

It works just fine as a standalone game. Playing 1 and 2 before 3 is no more necessary than reading the books before 1 is.

And then you realize everything was Jaskier's fault to begin with

I don't think the game retcons it, people just get confused about how the djinn quest works in the game.

Pretty much what I said. They're bound, the love is consequent of continually falling together but not fixed or required by the wish.

>I know a woman is flighty, but to that scale?

>everything was Jaskier's fault
You could rename 90% of the books to that and it'd be accurate. Fucking bards.

He's still my bro though, so I'll still help investigate your waifu getting rekt.

I felt sort of bad for that elf that had a crush on her. He could only watch as she and Geralt fucked after the wish was granted

You are absolutely correct, my good man

when is everything NOT his fault? i men seriously, when? i thought the point of his character was to PLOT DEVICE.exe

>trissfags

youtube.com/watch?v=HmbAIRgS9x8&ab_channel=CJake3

>Jaskier, don't touch/do that!
>ABLOO ABLOO ABLOO
It still manages to be funny every time tho

This user gets it.

I don't think Ciri was his fault, Geralt landed on that one on his own.

I'd feel bad too... but nah, fuck elves.

>he doesn't know

>tfw only played TW3
>made it my focus that when I meet characters from previous games, I would send them all to kaer morhen
>sent letho and keira
>Triss goes to leave on ship
>"UHHHH I LOVE YOU?"
>read this thread

I may have made a mistake.

holy shit trissfags BTFO for life

I bought this piece of shit after listening to Sup Forums shill it for months.
Never have I been more bored in my fucking life.

>go fetch these herbs
>cringey magical shit
>inspector Geralt mode: broken leg, squashed head, dislocated shoulder, spread asshole... 'hmm, looks like the work of a matriarchal blubbergrump. better make sure im well stocked with wormcum so I can dowse my sword in it.'

>He'll never ever ever get the Yen ending now
The sad thing is that Triss goes to Kaer Morhen regardless

...

well if the princess and 'duny' weren't fucking like rabbits ciri wouldn't have happened

you might find call of duty is more your speed champ

You can still try to go for both and get the fuckup ending

Fuck, maybe they were reading some of Jaskier's fapfics to get in the mood

Motivation to replay it, user!

It's his only chance at redemption.

That is true. Any mods worth getting for when I finish my vanilla playthrough?

in that case it's geralts fault because bardo is always writing about geralts boinkings

triss fags btfo

but then again yen fags btfo:

witcher.wikia.com/wiki/The_Last_Wish_(short_story)

So is pic related the only true waifu for geralt?

I kept waiting for Isengrim to make an appearance, specially since I heard a flute playing and thought it might be him, and Dijkstra made an appearance so I thought it logical that, considering one of the scenes towards the end of either book 6 or 7, Dijkstra and Isengrim were together at that campfire, CDP would've brought them both back, but that wasn't the case. Plus, people were already bitching that Iorveth was not in 3, despite him being a stand-in for Isengrim.

>waifu
>his adopted daughter

you might find bleach is a good beverage, kiddo

He's just doing what Witchers do, you can't blame that one on Geralt

I'm sure there are some (dont have any). Only thing I'd add is that if you do NG+, you can sequence break and do the Yen scenes earlier since you're not weak as fuck at the start.

The "Enhanced Edition" mod is great, changes many gameplay-aspects especially combat.
And the Griffin Armor mod is great, it changes the look of the Armor so you don't look like a fat fucm
