Also, most of this is because people install their games to their system drive. In Windows, you need admin permissions for write access to the system drive. It's easier and less suspicious to dump save games into a directory that doesn't need any special permissions.

You're right, I'll never know the feel of having to put a disc in a disc tray to play games. I have something better: hard drives capable of holding my entire video game collection. Plus I get to preload them so they're installed before the game is even out and they're ready to play the moment the clock ticks over.

This is why you download Sandboxie and put your sandbox directory on D:

Now it matters not where shit installs, EVERYTHING will be in the sandbox directory.
Make a shortcut outside the sandbox directory or elsewhere on another partition that takes you straight to the sandbox list or specific sanxboxes.
Mind you, you can also use the Sandboxie Control Center too. I prefer direct shortcuts though.

I don't know of any game that has anything in My Documents as the default installation folder. A lot of games store user-specific data there, like save files, profile info, screenshots, and don't offer you the option to change the folder.

which represents "C:\users\[username]\Documents" even if you set the "My Documents" folder to be somewhere else. I had to create a syslink to keep my saves with all the others.


Also, fun fact about Shovel Knight: since I have the game both on GOG and Steam I decided to upload my Steam save onto GOG's cloud service, just to be safe.
Despite the fact that both games placed their save file in the same folder, and there was only one of them, SOMEHOW while launching the game through Steam always showed my complete file, launching it through GOG instead showed all save slots to be empty.

But Linux's file system is even stranger, it seems like everything just installs itself wherever it wants and you can't choose to install programs to a specific drive. If you have multiple drives the system becomes a mess of symlinks.
