i went to a petting zoo the other day and hugged a wallaby, it was the softest animal I ever held :)

this is interesting because of a cat's instincts. when the skin on the back of their neck is pinched up like that it triggers an instinctual reaction to relax and stay still. this is because when cats are newborns and their mother is carrying them it is usually with their mouth, and it is by the excess skin on the back of the neck. it just causes them to stay completely still.

you can do this on lots of cats, and it's useful for carrying one that is being an asshole. they'll stop what they're doing immediately. never considered it being useful to veterinarians.
