I haven't seen a single Odin's Sphere thread, did I just miss the boat back in the PS2 days or what? This game is freaking gorgeous.

Am I missing anything by just playing on normal?

Also this is probably the comfiest "chapter select" screen I've seen in ages.

You didn't miss anything back in the PS2 days. The game ran so poorly on the PS2 that I'm surprised it was even released. I don't usually care about framerate, but it regularly slowed down so much that it was unplayable

>Am I missing anything by just playing on normal?
Only enemies with way too much health. I played it on normal first and then went NG+ hard mode and it was pretty fun. I can't imagine picking away at hard mode enemy hp with starting skills though. Would get tedious fast

See, that's what I heard way back when which stopped me from picking it up. Fell in love with Dragon's Crown and when I heard about the new release I was set to get it as soon as I could (which really, wasn't soon enough).

The controls feel a lot more responsive and smoother than I expected, so that is awesome.

Thanks for the advice, I'll probably do that if I go NG+

I was trying to find Odin sphere for the vita but everyone in North America is sold out it seems like. Fucking lame that I missed out us have had a short print run.

Amazon my man

OS and Muramasa are great. Beautiful visuals and music, fun gameplay with some depth, nice little story.

They don't seem to click with some people though. I guess for every person drawn in by the art style and gameplay, there's another person pushed away by it. It's either 'weebshit' because it has a cartoony style (even though it's far from generic anime), or primitive in some way because it's side scrolling.

The game becomes pretty easy as the characters gain more abilities. I'd recommend switching to hard after the first chapter or two but ultimately it's your decision. Difficulty level doesn't affect the story or trophies

I was hoping for msrp price at least but I guess beggars can't be choosers. Fucking 60-110 bucks on amazon. Fucking jews man.

I don't have a Vita so I don't know anything about it, but if it's region free, you can pick up the EU release on Ebay for $40

If any game needed a remake/remaster, it was OS. They really couldn't have done a much better job. Both DC and OSL are fantastic games. Looking forward to seeing what they do with Aegis Rim

I like the game but I would enjoy it much more if there were less playable characters. Maybe only 3. I get kinda bored towards the end.

>Looking forward to seeing what they do with Aegis Rim
I wish we'd get some freaking gameplay

I just hope they won't make us do 13 playthroughs to see the complete story.

I'm betting it won't be anything like their past games. Most of their games are action, but GrimGrimoire wasn't, so I wouldn't be surprised if this one isn't. Doesn't matter either way to me, though. I haven't been disappointed with anything they've put out

Wouldnt mind as long as each playthrough has mostly different content is and not very lenghty overall. 4 hours per route would be perfect.

I regret playing the PS2 version. It's a shame, because it could have been a good game. I'll bet the remaster is great though.

The remaster is. It completely smooths out the originals performance while also including an enhanced version that is a borderline remake

You missed two boats.

bump. not yet

I enjoyed it. the first time I had to go through those exact same seven areas.

The game is like a form of torture by Velvet.

Why is Velvet's and Cornelius' gameplay so superior to everyone else?

Cornelius and Gwen, my man. Cornelius is fuckin crazy. I wasn't feeling Mercades at all though, in the original or refined mode. There wasn't enough bullet hell shit in her story

bump

I kinda managed to be able to play Mercedes decently by the end of her chapters but she wasn't nearly as fun as the others, except Oswald, he sucks dicks

meant for

Original Odin Sphere is shit, but I heard they fixed the gameplay with the remake.

Cornelius a best, for sure. Even on the PS2 one he was fun, but in the Vita one he's insane.

Velvet and Oswald are probably the most powerful though.

We had a ton of threads for this on the week the remake came out

Mercedes has the best story, but worst gameplay. Oswald is complete shit, both in gameplay and story. I didn't think Velvet was as bad as everyone says, I had a lot of fun being spiderman

yep, more or less. they even included the original game play into a seperate mode for the hell of it.

Can't wait to see gameplay. At least from the walking scenes you know there'll be at least some good old fashioned side-scrolling action

Not necessarily. I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't an action game at all. GrimGrimoire was a RTS, after all, so they aren't afraid to experiment

I'm surprised it was even confirmed for localization at this point when Japan isn't any closer to getting it than we are.

bump

It's one of those games that is all-round excellent (the remake at least), but there's not really much to talk about.

Leifthrasier really set the bar for remakes personally, a very nice mechanics update, dual audio, and it even includes the original game with purely technical improvements.

Are you playing with Leifthrasir's gameplay or classic? If you're on Leifthrasir then play on hard otherwise it's too easy.

I should replay the game someday on classic and try the custom settings.

Dragon's Crown was better

The things I would do to that girl.

They're not the same game at all. Dragon's Crown is one of the best multiplayer experiences I've had, but I prefer Odin Sphere overall.

Just recently finished it on the PS4. good stuff, man. Loved every bit. Leaps and bounds better than the original PS2 version too.

I'm probably gonna start on Muramasa Rebirth and finish up the gallery Dragon's Crown. This game kinda set me on a Vanillaware kick.

Be sure to also get the dlc characters since they actually play differently unlike Momohime and Kisuke.

That's mainly what I was looking forward to. How long are their campaigns, would you say?

Inventory management isn't fun.

Slowdown made some section unplayable.

They're each 3 bosses long for their first ending, 2nd endings require refighting all the bosses from the momohime and kisuke campaigns and having the item you get after that equipped while fighting the final boss.

Oh man, I'm still missing the last two DLCs. Loved the different gameplay.

Vanillaware game's are top notch. Odin Sphere is a little boring to play after finishing it, but the other games are pretty replayable. Can't wait to see how the new game plays.

The remaster fixes both of those problems

This is easily among my favorite games, heck I even own a physical copy of the PS2 version.

The game is gorgeous, the story nice and the OST amazing too. But I can understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea.

As with any Vanillaware game, they make great stories and stunning visuals but they tend to fall short on the gameplay department as it sometimes tend to become repetitive. That being said, playing this on hard forces you to learn all of the gameplay mechanics or get rekt.

The DLCs are about 2 hours long. The neat thing is you unlock the map at the end, so you can do all the caves and story bosses with each of the DLC characters. It's basically adding another character to the game.

Man, Vanillaware has been on top of the gameplay department since Muramasa. They've only gotten better since there

Last dlc character is insanely broken. She's fun to use despite making everything a cakewalk.

I gladly got the game anyway. But I still really feel like there should have been a Wii U version.
The inventory management/crafting was always my biggest gripe with the original game. Rather than the stuff they actually addressed with the remake.

With the Wii U version you would have been able to manage your inventory and throw together potions as you ran through the levels without actually having to pause your game. There is so damn much pausing in Odin Sphere. I love the game but a second screen could have unironically mitigated this by a lot.

In before
>Wii U
>le Sony hating Nintenbro
because for some reason, wanting it on the Wii U is apparently a sin of some kind in the eyes of some.

Hey it looks like you played a lot of M:R DLCs, I have a question because sometimes I have been wanting to get em. What I liked about muramasa was the weapon tree, I'm a sucker for unlocking lots of weapons.

Do the DLC characters have some sort of weapon tree too? And how big it is?

Well it really isn't out of the question, considering Muramasa was a Wii exclusive, originally

I don't know, man. I don't think having an Ipad in your hand is the best solution to the inventory management in Odin Sphere.

It's just a game design flaw, no real need to fix it by porting it into another console.

>remake made Mercedes actually fun
Surprised the shit out of me.

Still needed either way more content, or shorter stages/stories with less overlap between characters. Or just more character variety. It turns into a chore by the time you're Velvet. Mercedes is a great change of pace in the remake but you're still retreading stages and bosses. You can only defeat the same dragon so many times before there's a total loss of tension, especially when you know he dies at another point in the story.

hell yes. I've already put 100 hours into Odin Sphere with new game plus. I love me some replayability.

They do. It's about half of the main character's tree.

You have 3 skills with all the new characters, and you basically upgrade each skill with the tree.

DLC characters don't have weapon trees, they have upgrade trees. Usually upgrade skills are divided into three types
>basic stat upgrades (like +1 to X)
>equippable accesssory (adds the types of effects you'd usually get from some swords like chance for a hit to 1-shot enemy)
>miscellaneous upgrade which change or add properties to some of your attacks, overall the best upgrades of the three

I wish there were more bullet hell sections with Mercedes

>Nintenbro
Dem wordfilters.

Mercedes was a fun character, now Velvet, I could never get used to her playstyle.

That's the only part I didn't like much about Odin Sphere. Too may recycling of bosses. I wouldn't mind if you played with 2-3 characters, but by the end it really was kinda boring to fight the same guy five times.

Worse yet, you even fight two of the last chapter bosses with two characters before even unlocking the final chapter.

Glad they didn't do that in Muramasa.

Mercedes and Ingway were best couple

Thank you guys, I will probably get the dlc pack once it goes to sale again.

>I will probably get the dlc pack once it goes to sale again.
Usually the dlc alone doesn't go on sale but rather the game+dlc

KISS FROG

The DLCs by themselves rarely go on sale though.

I think last time they were on sale was on the game anniversary, I think. Around October

IT'S JUST A FUCKING KISS. Refusing to save the guy's life (especially someone who helped you multiple times) because of muh feelings was pretty stupid.

I wanna' play these games by vanillaware so bad, but i only have pc

Funny, I actually went with Hard, and the game doesn't feel that tedious. Need to beat Cornelius' story still

I always struggle with Gonbei. I can't dodge for shit with him and his bosses are hard as shit in fury mode.

Well then buy a PS4 ya dumby

Gonbei is notoriously harsh in early game, takes until post game for him to start getting the good upgrades.

Frogs do look disgusting in real life though

Where is this from? did they draw more OS?

kind of tough at the moment. Dragon's Crown is for PS3/Vita
Muramasa is for Vita/Wii
Odin Sphere is PS4. (I don't recommend the PS2 one)

No single system to play them all on. sucks.

Actually Odin Sphere is also on the Vita, and the PS3, for that matter

Odin Sphere is on Veetur too

The sumo boss was only one of two that took ne a couple of tries to do, other being Inugami. lack of money and items is also problem.

Odin sphere is also on Vita and PS3

But weren't the characters pretty much the same on the ps2 game? I recall that the characters getting different skills on Leifthrasir

The Alfred Hitchcock first fight fucked me and a lot of people uoy

I liked muramasa better. Ninja fantasy better than high fantasy.

Nah, just fan stuff, Mercedes is pretty much thinking that though when she sees Ingway for the first time though

The Refined mode gives the gameplay a complete overhaul but keeps everything else

Muramasa is basically Japanese high fantasy though

I Like Muramasa better when it comes to combat. Too much running around though. Souls are mostly useless too. The game gives you way more than you'd ever need

Sumo boss has broken hitboxes, I remember once rolling behind him and still getting fucking grabbed.

Woops. well, there you have it. Vita's the Vanillaware system. Although he should probably just get a PSTV instead right? Unless you really need the portability.

It's not particularly that. The game ran like complete ass at certain fights on the PS2. Couldn't keep up with all the action on screen.
Plus the skill/battle system is much more streamlined in the PS4 one.

I'm not completely sure how the game is different on the newer versions, since I didn't play much after I played through the first character on the newer version.
I just heard that only things that are better are the performance and that different characters have different skills now.

Dude, combat is significantly different. The skill system and alchemy are too. Go back and play the classic mode and then try refined

Never played the original. Story was better than I expected but the gameplay got so repetitive.

I only own the original, I loaned the ps3 one from a library

They're all great, m8.

Odin Sphere has amazing atmosphere, Muramasa has the coolest combat and Dragon's Crown has that perfect "short bursts of gameplay" cycle to it. All fantastic games.

Dragon's Crown just had one issue. No Miyuki Sawashiro

>I was only pretending, ignore all those other times I got my shit pushed in

...

I loves that game, trapped in a time loop, tricking devils

Vanillaware games make me way too many screenshots
