Rank these from best to worst
Rank these from best to worst
They're basically all the same game though, it's really not worth comparing them.
BAA BAA
The one where Mario goes WAHOO > the one where Mario goes ITSA ME > the one where Mario goes A HERE WE GO > the one where Mario goes BLING BLING, 1UP > the one with just Luigi
I've played all of these and it's impossible to rank them because they really are all about the same.
>2D Mario is just NSMB over and over
>Kirby is becoming the same
>So is Donkey Kong
Is Nintendo trying to kill the 2D platformer
NSMB>NSMBU>NSMBW>NSMB2
I have NSLU but never played it beyond level 2 or some shit.
I played all of them.
They're the same.
DS (actually good game) >>> Wii (okay) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Wii U (shit) >>>>>>>>>>>>>[x100] 2 (garbage)
Haven't played Luigi
Literally all the same except different powerups. You really want us to rank powerups?
spotted the faggots who didn't play U. it literally shits all over the other ones in terms of level design
spotted the faggot who bought a Wii U day one.
Even though U actually isn't that bad I'm still mad as shit that these abominations helped gut paper Mario. I'd rather the series had just silently died like Wario.
DS and Luigi are actually the only two good ones.
I liked NSMB2. The coin gimmick was very satisfying. I remember most of the hate toward it started before it even came out because people were pretending one NSMB side-series game per console = Mario is COD now.
U=Luigi>DS>Wii>2
each one is enjoyable but U is clearly the best
...
Who the hell has time to make these?
>see screenshots for NSMB on the DS back in the day
>get hyped
>here it's a return to basics
>confused
>find out it's a retread of SMB's formula but with updated graphics
>"oh... okay"
>the blue shell powerup is added
>"looks like it could be neat, I guess"
>no 2 player mode and Luigi is a secret character
>"wait..."
>all the bosses are Mario Sunshine styled and are simple to defeat
>"...I didn't ask for this..."
>Bowser Jr. is the main villain
>REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!
They got slightly better as the series went on, admittedly. I think of them all, NSMB2 had the most going for it (return of Super Leaf, goal of making cash felt fun, Koopalings are back, lots of secret levels...). But the rest are trash. It took me years to finally be bored enough to beat NSMBWii and NSMBU. Never even bothered with Luigi U. The only friends of mine who play these games consistently and 100% them are all extremely casual gamers, who I guess are the intended audience for these games.
Just sucks they had to muck up the core Mario games as well, including the 3D Land/World titles. The "New Mario" aesthetic was awesome at first, but now it's just bland. It's almost clinical and deliberate in a way, like it's designed to maximize nostalgia while bleaching away any of the personality.
It was good once. Not a thousand times.
this is the Truth.
You have fucking horrendous taste. Save yourself some time next time and don't bother posting at all. NSMB and NSMBU are fucking great and 3D World is easily the best 3D Mario (though 3D Land is the weakest).
U > Luigi U = 1 > Wii > 2
People who browse Sup Forums
How the flying fuck can you think that shit? U is World/SMB3 tier. What drugs are you on?
The Kirby and especially Donkey King games are great
You mean 4?
Great and New Super Mario Bros rehashing.
>You have fucking horrendous taste. Save yourself some time next time and don't bother posting at all. NSMB and NSMBU are fucking great and 3D World is easily the best 3D Mario (though 3D Land is the weakest).
I actually loved the hell out of 3D World. I just wish they took more liberties with it instead of keeping an aesthetic that was pretty close to the "New" look.
And NSMB was trash. It lacked any depth or content beyond barebones Mario. It wasn't even challenging. Playing that game felt like a chore -- I didn't feel rewarded for beating it at all. I couldn't even play all of the worlds in a regular playthrough. It was trash.
How is any of what you are whining about bad?
The fuck are you talking about
How can you claim Kirby games are any better than NSMB games? They're even more blatant at being rehashes.
But DK has only had 1 other game so far since Returns.
What do people see in NSMB 1?
Shit >>>>> Super Luigi U > Super Mario Bros. U > Super Mario Bros. > Super Mario Bros. Wii >>>>>> Super Mario Bros. 2
>"I hate Mario games that are Mario games"
Yeah, NSMB should have been a DMC clone. Fucking Nintendo!
And it's already showing it's identical. At very least they reskinned the enemies, though they're still using the exact same attack patterns. Still find all the puzzle pieces, collect the bananas before time runs out in a single bonus room, no other playable kongs, Rambi only, final destination.
The boss battles aren't just Koopalings and it was at least new at the time as well as being the first new 2D Mario in 15 years.
U/L
Wii
2 = 1
It was fresh, fun to play, and had cool unique bosses.
>Canvas Curse, Squeak Squad, Epic Yarn and Robobot are all the same game.
The last console Kirby game was in 2011, 7 years before the 2018 game will release
Luigi U>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Everything else
>sequels have similarities
Those sick fucks...
I like the well varied enemies, how it introduced 3D mechanics into the 2D games (wall kicks, groundpound, etc.), the Blue Shell, Mega Mushroom & Mini Mush and the bosses were neat and not just the Koopalings repeated. I don't dislike the newer games but they didn't really evolve the gameplay enough for me to think it was a great step forward, NSMBU almost did it but it wasn't enough for me. The little twirl move in NSMBW and onward was a nice addition though to the series.
If you beat Tropical Freeze you would know you could play as the Kong separately as a reward, but of course someone's like you probably couldn't even beat Tropical freeze
>no other playable kongs
Wrong.
they arr rook same
Why are people treating NSLU as a separate game when it's just an expansion.
...
Why should they be a reward for after you've already 100% the game and there's no reason to play it any more?
Because it was also sold separately as a game probably and it's basically a whole new game with how it has every level replaced in the original NSMBU with a new one that incorporates Luigi's play style.
This is why no one likes Sonygro.
Only you lot have this mentality that change solely for the sake of change is a good thing.
>not coming back to replay games after a while
You couldn't be any more wrong about Kirby and DK
For people who want to 200% the game, obviously.
>whole new game
>same levels edited to be shorter with more enemies
Are you serious?
>NSMBU
>Boring
I swear you fucks never played it. It's easily one of the best 2D Mario games.
Literally this.
Super Mario Bros U is the best 2D Mario game since Mario World on the SNES. Yet another unappreciated Wii U gem.
I guess it's been a while but I recall the level design being relatively new, I could be wrong though.
NSMBU > NSMBWii > NSMB >>>>> NSMB2
Yup. It's fucking superb.
Wii
U
2
Luigi
Ds
DS has aged a lot. Wii was just the best overall, even if the propeller was op. U is great, but wii felt more original and fresh, and u felt rushed and slapped together for launch. 2 is actually quite fun, but the level design is really weak, but the coin gimmick levels it out, also its portable with great graphics. Luigi is just a remixed hard mode of u, but still good fun with nice challenge.
I actually do want a switch game, but not for a couple more years, and it really needs to impress. To me the series is
DS was ultra fresh, revitalize 2d platformer for that gen was novel.
Wii perfected it, with 4 player co op, wonderful visuals, and huge viewing distance. U was like wii hd, 2 was like wii portable with coin gimm8ck, and luigi was u but hard.
Very rehashed lazy series, but some damn fine platformers.
>NSMBU ( Because of the solo challenges + The four player co-op being fun )
>NSMBWii ( Because of modding! )
>NSMB ( The versus mode was a whole lot of fun if you could find a friend to play it with )
>NSMB2 ( The coin collecting minigame isn't fun and it never got a GOTY edition to prepackage the DLC )
>NSLU ( Its just the post-game worlds from NSMBU prepackaged into its own game to try to earn more money )
I literally used a warp pipe to skip two worlds and get to the end faster. Coming off all the other SMB games, NSMBU is by far the most derivative and boring game in the franchise and I had to force myself to at least finish it.
Sqeak Squad pretty much does nothing new. Canvas Curse was different but it was more a spin-off than a classic Kirby game platformer. Robobot was pretty much the same as Triple Deluxe except with the mech gimmick. It hardly adds more to the game than any new powerup that the NSMB games add to the series.
Also, as far as Nintendo/HAL is concerned, there is no real difference between home console and handheld games. So it's only been 1 year since the last Kirby game. And even if you want to treat them separately, it's been 6 years since the last NSMB.
OOOOH MARIO TIME
OOOOH MARIO TIME
OOOOH MARIO TIME
THAT FUCKING TOAD SOUND
RAA RAAH
>Because it was also sold separately as a game
If I remember right it was released as an expansion first before the physical version came out and was a limited release only for the year of luigi.
Also it features the exact same levels.
...
So to sum up your post
>it does nothing new because these don't count!
But you already 200% the game since it's pretty much just Returns on the Wii U with nothing new.
>Robobot was pretty much the same as Triple Deluxe except with the mech gimmick. It hardly adds more to the game than any new powerup that the NSMB games add to the series.
I disagree entirely on that, the mech isn't just some power-up. You can take control of it and gain a whole new playstyle and it can also gain it's own copy abilities with different movesets. You also have some mechanics like spinning the bolt for bosses & at the end of the game you play it Star Fox-style kind of which is new. If you're going to say something is like the new power-ups in the NSMB series mention the normal copy abilities because that's exactly what those are like. There were also side-games on the thing for a 3D Kirby & Kirby Clash which were expanded upon later sure but they were introduced there first.
Canvas Curse does count and I'd like to see more games like that and Mass Attack. But the platformers are just the same shit over and over.
>prepackaged into its own game
It was always an expansion user. The physical version is solely a collectable.
Flip that image upside down then ignore anything not on the Wii U.
Why can't they just record new voices and sound effects?
Also, do they actually think people like Toad? Everybody hated him even 30 years ago, and that was back when he was mute
...
>But the platformers are just the same shit over and over
Which brings us back to You can't just ignore all of the new mechanics and try and pass off your flawed argument.
With that said they're sequels user of course they're going to feature similar gameplay.
They're all solid games but they're incredibly lazy. They've got decent level design and the music is alright despite the BAH BAH. The issue is that they released within a relatively short timespan of each other (at least the last three did) so people felt like they were just playing the same game 3 times.
Nice image, can I save it? I can't wait to make people angry with it
By that logic it's pointless to play DCK2 and DCK3 since it's the original with nothing new I guess.
>avoid SML
woah
Actually I should add to here that beyond the gameplay each game actually does have a different plot going on in the series. They may not be deep but they are definitely something different each time with antagonists having different goals, backstories & etc. They also are somewhat connected between each game with foreshadowing (such as Star Dream being referenced in Return to Dream Land).
NSMB adds "new" stuff with each series too. It doesn't stop them from being incredibly samey too. They're not outright bad games but if you've played one, you've played them all.
It's the worst Mario game, only the soundtrack and Daisy make it worth while.
>With that said they're sequels user of course they're going to feature similar gameplay.
By the sound of things you want some kind of mechanic or rehaul that would change the game from top to bottom.
Put Super Mario Land & New Super Mario Bros. DS in Optional. You can say they're weaker than other titles all you want but they are not something to avoid, just don't go out of your way to play it.
Going from DKC to DKC2 you get
>New playable character right from the start
>New bonus room mechanics
>A new way to get to bonus rooms
>New moves
>New animal buddies
>New characters to interact with
>New collectables (DK coins, Kremkoins)
>New setting
>entirely new soundtrack that isn't just remixes from previous game
>New enemies with new ways of attacking
The only "new" Tropical Freeze offers compared to Returns "that New Super Mario Bros feel"
>recommending both the original games and their handheld remakes
>recommending all-stars
>recommending the handheld remakes at all
>NSMB in avoid despite being no worse than any other NSMB game (and actually having unique boss battles)
>Galaxy 2 in optional despite being the best 3D Mario in terms of level design
>Wario Land 1 being better than Wario Land 2
What an awful post
>>New playable character right from the start
>>New bonus room mechanics
>>A new way to get to bonus rooms
>>New moves
>>New characters to interact with
>>New collectables
>>New setting
>>entirely new soundtrack that isn't just remixes from previous game
>>New enemies with new ways of attacking
Wow, all of that is true of Returns to Tropical Freeze, too.
But more than half of that list is applicable to Tropical freeze
>new Kings with new abilities
>new moves
>new level design
>new soundtrack
>underwater levels
>new enemies/bosses
Tropical Freeze is also the hardest game in the series
just what i thought
autists
lol nuh uh
But you just said you can't play as the Kongs until you beat the game user
>Tropical Freeze
>new enemies
>instead of the Tiki Drum on fire shooting slow moving fireballs, it's an owl on fire(?) that shoots slow moving fireballs.
just because it isn't as good or long as other Mayros doesn't mean it's in "avoid" tier.
Not them, but here's the thing, you can have the other Kongs accompany you which can change DK's playstyle (you gain a Ducktales-esque Pogo Cane with Cranky for example).
As opposed to a crocodile moving left to right or a bee flying up and down?
So they're power ups, not playable characters.
I've played it and I struggled to finish. It's a slightly better NSMBW but barely feels like is new game instead of a full HD expansion pack.
If the games had amazing level design or difficulty to make up for the lack of originality then it wouldn't be so bad. Tropical Freeze didn't do a whole lot new but it made up for it in other aspects. Kirby games don't have that.
Before completing the game, yes basically, but that falls under "New moves" in those lists which is still new. It's pretty fucking fun to blast through levels with Cranky by the way, it takes a lot of skill to pull off perfectly but it's so quick & rewarding to pull off.
You can still play them separately from the start if you have two players, so they're both power ups and characters
