Is it just me or is the opening cut-scene of this game terrible? The exposition is really confusing. Like why is a UNATCO agent explaining to the UNATCO director what UNATCO is? It made me think that UNATCO was a separate organization than the one that you work for. Who the fuck are these "old men"? Whats FEMA?
Ok, I just googled FEMA and realized I'm a massive fucking retard. BUT THE SHIT I SAID ABOUT UNATCO STILL STANDS
William Butler
UNATCO?

Too late motherfucker.

>>Fuck the writers of this game.
Zachary White
Oh yes. When I mentioned we could put him on the express list for the vaccine he was so willing it was almost pathetic.
Benjamin Flores
>BUT THE SHIT I SAID ABOUT UNATCO STILL STANDS Not it doesn't you dickhead, Bob Page and Walter Simons has nothing to do with UNATCO (Simons is the director of FEMA), the old men comment is a reference to the Illuminati remnants you wouldn't know about until you near the end of the game.
I think the government made the plague on purpose.
Hunter Clark
The two men talking are Bob Page, owner of VersaLife, and Walton Simons, newly appointed director of FEMA. FEMA corresponds to the real-life Federal Emergency Management Agency, while VersaLife is an in-universe biotech corporation. UNATCO is a UN-funded anti-terrorist organization, led by Joseph Manderley, who doesn't speak in the intro. The "old men" refer to the pld order of the Illuminati, whom you don't meet until later in the game.
How the fuck did you not know what FEMA was?
Nolan Lee
Although you think it's bad for wrong reasons, it is not a very good cutscene. It makes a lot of sense on a replay, but on your first run of the game it would have made more sense if it was more connected to JC and liberty isle.
Carson Morris
please tell me you aren't this stupid.
Jacob Kelly
DESPERATE. Your turn.

Connor Roberts
Opening is intentionally confusing. You're not supposed to really understand it on the first playthrough. You pick up that these guys are sinister, there's a virus, civil unrest, terrorism, and some threat to their power by another group, and all with the backdrop of the big hand in the MJ12 labs at Versalife.
The PS2 version cuts out the line about UNATCO (among others), removing the weirdness of the people behind the conspiracy explaining to one another what it is.
A personal appeal from Bob Page, founder of VersaLife.
Luke Hernandez
>Fantastic opening cut-scene >boring game afterwards Anybody else have this feel
Caleb Edwards
>What's FEMA?
Man, even the most braindead motherfucker would have at least heard of FEMA on the news or something, holy shit.

I had the same issue with this user, I played for a few hours and was bored. So I didn't play it for like a few months cause I just didn't have the urge to play it.
But after a few months I decided to back to it since I had no other game to play. Once I picked it up again it's been really fun and just can't stop playing.
Luis Walker
i hope not and you just gotta cope with the fact you're a fag
Nathan Lewis
Why didn't UNATCO posting take off like Baneposting? They're the equivalent of their respective media.

normies don't like playing older games where you have to somewhat think about things. normies do like big box office movies.
Jacob Miller
>He doesn't know about the secret illuminati funded UNATCO posting enacted by old men
Lincoln Murphy
Finally someone else who's played the PS2 version. I played that one first because I didn't know better. Still blew my mind. You could imagine how fucking different and weird everything was when I finally got around to playing the PC version.

Sneaking is good, most of the time you're outgunned. Do not train swimming Put one level into computer skill to allow you to hack anything in the game You can untrain your pistol skill at the beginning if you're not planning to use pistols.
Luis Phillips
no spoilers, yet there is a spoilered line

Purple UI best UI.

real talk, I just bought and played deus ex for the first time last year, and it has become one of my favorite games ever. I don't understand those people that make threads about this game just to talk shit about it.
Anthony Robinson
The prod is the best way to make a silent takedown.
Lucas Cox
me too, but I played on normal and savescummed sometimes sorry for being a faggot and a pleb guys but at least I'm playing the god tier games
Owen Gonzalez
Ditto, I played it for the first time ever just 2 years ago. The graphics are derpy lego blocks tier but in terms of game mechanics and scope there still hasn't been a more complex game to ever have been made since.
Jace Watson
Most people use spoilers for emphasis because there's no bold or italics
Hope your first day goes ok user
Lincoln Lee
The game is still really good even today.
People on Sup Forums just like to make others angry rather than talk about games they enjoy.
Xavier Perry
Filling the OP with bait is the most efficient way of starting a thread on Sup Forums.
Owen Gutierrez
Hacking is God Tier. Lockpicking close second. Choose early on if you're gonna specialize in small guns or rifles (I'd suggest rifles which are stronger and include the sniper rifle which is absurd lategame, but small guns have the crossbow which is loads of fun). Ignore Swimming and Environmental Hazards. Electronics is good but not as good as lockpicking and hacking. Heavy Guns are big, take loads of inventory space and require lots of ammo and also alert everyone of your presence, I wouldn't recommend them. Sneaking and exploring the environment is key in this game, lots and lots and lots of hidden passages and shortcuts towards the objective. Talk to everyone. Multiple times. Aim for the head/neck when doing melee from behind, higher chance of insta-K.O'eing them. When you get your first augs, the one that lets you lift higher weights is much better than the other options. Also the Self-Healing aug is incredible. Most npc's are killable when you wouldn't expect them to be (even allies) and the game acknowledges your choice.
Don't exit by the window.

meme bait thread but I've got something to say anyway Fuck opening cutscene, Deus Ex has great plot but the fucking cutscene gives everything away, you see Walton Simmons after completing like 1 mission for UNATCO so you know they are fucking evil. I guess it was supposed to be the point but they should be more subtle, the player should make the choice to leave UNATCO himself, and with that bullshit he is ready to do so right off the bat
Not really, if it's your first time playing the game by the time you meet WS in person you've already long forgotten the details of the intro.

One point in computers and the rest in pistol at the beginning. Then go with pistol all the way through. Then IDK. Pistol is god-tier. Put all the upgrades in your pistol.

Straight-up wrong. Not everyone has ADHD.
David Cooper
>Do not train swimming Don't listen to this faggot. He doesn't want you doing the patrician JC Dolphin playthrough.
Carter Anderson
JC ITS A BOMB
Carter Gutierrez
Factually correct rather. You only talk like that because you finished the game multiple times and so the intro feels spoiler like to you. It really isn't.
Ayden Clark
>do not train swimming fuck off reddit trollo
Parker Bailey
This desu fampai. The GEP gun, while huge, has great utility throughout the entire game. It's a lot better than fiddling around with LAMs or LAWs.
