Literally nothing. Devs are awesome and I still play the game from time to time. Only wish there were more heists like Shadow Raid.

Devs were too greedy and put a sour taste in the mouths of the playerbase.

Started as being at least semi rooted in reality. Now we have:
>Female heisters that are shit (Clover was at least believable and had a good backstory to Hoxton)
>QUIRKY weapons
>Shit male heisters that serve no purpose
And everything is fucking called "Overkill".

It went from cool, gritty-ish heisting game with some fucking great subtle story like "The Dentist" trailer shows (How Dallas is completely unhinged and feels uncomfortable as fuck without his mask and as a civ) and elements being told in the games missions themselves to fucking LOL GOAT SIMULATOR XDXDXD
The game is, simply put, over designed. They should have fucking chilled out a bit sucking themselves off naming every fucking thing "Overkill" and introducing absolute fucking bullshit nobody asked for. Fucking Goat Simulator heist, really?

It getting sillier is mostly what did it for me. Ditto with Killing Floor when they started adding silly weapons. I just don't understand why they wanted to take the games in that direction when it's different from the core.

Also to add to my autistic rant, the game has been fucked with on a meta level so many god damn times.

Nothing.

Bought their way out of their publisher who forced microtransactions, consolidated all DLC and base game into a single $45 package, embracing use of nearly any modifications in-game (outside of cheating in other people's lobbies without their permission and illegitimate acquisition of Steam achievements), and recently, actually taking the time to attempt to fix the absolute worst part of the game's engine (though four years later).

I honestly believe that most, if not all people who are still complaining about this game do not actually play it.

Like this guy with the "used to be serious and gritty" bullshit. The game's an arcade horde defense shooter. Yeah, they've decided to do strange partnerships with other developers which I can definitely agree with being a not-exactly-positive development.

Overkill references were all over the first game, too.

I do hope they tone down the silliness for their next Payday title, that definitely seems to be what most players want, but to say that it used to be different is kind of a stretch.

Bow's been out of meta for a few months. You can still make it work, but grenade launcher for days, son.

The devs split from the publisher and got all the rights to the game and rolled all the DLC and the game into 1 single package, so nothing went wrong, it finally went right

Garbage balancing. Rather than improving AI, they make bullet sponge titanium canons instead. Also adding a shit load of guns in which most are just useless

Death Wish+ balance has been a nightmare of a ride since the difficulty's addition. Weapon balance is definitely a legitimate complaint.

I personally don't mind because I play on Overkill now that I've got all achievements

There's a contract broker button on the map that lets you pick the mission, user

Contract broker? You can select any mission and difficulty you want from there, if you pay for it with offshore cash, goyim.

They replaced Hoxton for a long time and only brought the original back after a long time

You should be able to build stealth and loud into separate parts of the same build, AKA, have a tree you level up to have your stealth parts and have a tree you level up to have you loud parts. That way when you fuck up a stealth heist, most people are gonna reset, but for some people who play it with friends they can just go fuck it let's just shoot our way through the rest.

there are builds that do this user. There are skills that make suppressors do extra critical hit damage or extra headshot damage, and dodge builds (relying on low detection) were meta for a long time

More realistic than Bonnie not coughing up her entire stomach contents from some light exercise, or making more noise than an elephant having a drunken fit in a china shop during stealth, yeah.

This is in contrast to say Sydney's portrayal where she's clearly designed for people to think she's the coolest person ever, or like all the KF2 female characters, Bonnie is the stark contrast to this

they could of added to the story and better yet the characterization of the crew and their interactions with each other and those involved with crime.net, but instead we got 8 fucking literally whos with no characterization or place in the crime.net organization, 3 crossover characters who have no business being the payday world, and 1 OG hox that everyone was hyped for but nobody plays as.
rather than all these unnecessaries there could of been further development for the four guys, there's already even a good base to expand upon as pointed out, but as of yet we don't even have bants between the characters and likely won't ever because there's so fucking many of them now. in fact, the deviation from the original vision is likely the reason Ulf left. aside from tactical, tense gameplay that was there during and shortly after the beta, the writing is the main thing I'm hoping is kept pure in the third game that will likely be developed some time.

I liked this game. I put about 300 hours into it. Then one day I just got bored of it. It's probably nothing wrong with the game, it's just that I stopped digging it

I actually like Jacket being a heister honestly, since both PD2 and Hotline Miami are action crime games involving gratuitous and excessive killing with fixation on masks, although John Wick and fucking Scarface were kind of uncalled for
I will say though that some of the gang were mistakes but having more than four characters playable makes for more variety and customization and generally adds more to the game than it takes away
