Where you play as a human or another animal?

What about Miasmata?

Because wild animals can't do shit, unless its like a monster.

Miasmata is one such game. It's pretty janky and weird though

Wild animals aren't truly scary since we invented powerful guns and explosives. We can burn down forests and destroy entire areas of wild lands if we need to. So it would take a talented writer to make us scared of animals. That is why there are no scary games with wild animals. Wild life is no more than an annoyance I the grand scheme of things.

There's so much potential there, too.
>Playing Far Cry 3
>raining and night ingame
>about to attack a camp, decide to attack from the water
>swim to a certain point
>look up and start swimming to the surface
>notice a silhouette of a crocodile
>pause the game and put the controller down
I didn't even know there were crocs in the game until that point. It scared the shit out of me.

Resident Evil 5

Now take away your pussy guns and imagine having to fight for your life against a wild apex predator with nothing but the XXXL shirt on your back. Doesn't seem so easy now, does it?

I don't get it, why is he running away?

It's a cheetah it's not that big, if he kicks it in the face enough times he should be fine

That thing could kill you in 3 seconds, dude

Why is that fair? Human's invented all of that shit on their own.

>sharp claws
>sharp teeth
>fast as shit
No, you'd get fucked up if you tried to fight, even a fucking cat could do some damage if it wanted to.

Dino Crisis?

there's Scratches addon, Last Visit - based on a feral cat

Not many wild dinosaurs walking around anymore, I think OP means current wild animals

If dinosaurs are in, then the king kong game is an obvious suggestion

Is this the closet we got?

>still no PC port
FUCK OFF

It take a hell of alot of work to make something we know and are used to in everyday life into being menacing enough to warrant fear inside a video game.

Like the entire bear sequence in Condemned 2. Imaging trying to spin out an entire game into that.

I wonder what happened, cheetahs are the chillest out of all big cats.

The only ones I can think of are the hound raids in don't starve and wolfs stalking you in the long dark.

Condemned 2 was shit anyway, Condemned 1 was the GOAT.

...

Games with animals as the entire threat wouldn't work unless you take serious liberties with behavior, and force the player role into being another animal, preferably a prey animal. Humans are just too capable and resourceful, and most animals avoid humans.

still wanna play it at 60fps 1080p - the boss fights were much more entertaining (also crazy crack-heads and investigation trivia)

You mean you did not enjoy screaming at people and making their heads explode? Or the retarded system of giving you massively over powered upgrades for being good at the game? Which leads directly to being better at the game and more upgrades?

God Condemned 2 was fucking stupid. Even the new voice actor they hired was worse. Everything was worse.

Literally only just remembered this game existed, but Space Station Silicon Valley is kinda related. You play as a little computer chip spider thing and take control of animals and fuck around

Sure there is.

Onl 2 games that spook me are stuff like subnautica or ark when your a low level and cant survive good. Giant creatures coming out of the darkness scares me a shit load more than a spoop I run past a couple times to get the mguffin and reach the next area.

Mostly because it leaves the reaction up to me, I might die, but maybe not if I can play well enough and manage the problem. I hate when you are "killed" because you got caught once and are then forced to replay the same segment with zero thrill because you know whats going to happen next.

Their biggest mistake was to remove flailing weapons - I genuinely tried to fend them off and it felt genuinely risky and ass-clenchingly scary, since it didn't work all the time and was the player's risk.

I mean, look at the state of the PC port for the first game.
I don't want another if it's going to be of similar quality.

Makes no damn sense either, being from the F.E.A.R. developers.

Meant to reply to

it was serviceable at the time - don't know what are you talking about

I always wanted to play that. Was it any good?

The whole cult superpower bullshit ruined it. I know they kind of implied some crazy shit was going on in the first game but they should have left it to the imagination. Serial Killer X was an awesome bad guy, they fucked him up in the second game as well.

I only played it as a kid and couldn't get past the 3rd level. It was pretty janky but definitely an interesting idea.

Depends on the situation and location.

Natural predators can be sneaky little fucks.

Boat sinks. You wash up on a secluded island with very minimal gear. There you go, I just solved the problem.

I dunno, I think those famous maneater tigers and lions were pretty scary, even if they mostly hunted women and children.

The lions that inspired "The Ghost and The Darkness"?

Yeah, thinking about it...a horror game adaptation of that movie would be pretty good if done right.

Maybe because animals are not scary.

Don't some african tribes still do precisely that using only a few sticks? You need to take a lot of shit from humans for it to even be able to be scary

Yeah, I liked that movie.

Wikipedia says that "at least 373,000 people died due to tiger attacks between 1800 and 2009". Also:
>The Champawat Tiger was a man-eating tigress which supposedly killed some 200 men and women before being driven out of Nepal. She moved to Champawat district in the state of Uttarakhand in North India, and continued to kill, bringing her total human kills up to 436. She was finally tracked down and killed in 1907.[12] She was known to enter villages, even during daylight, roaring and causing people to flee in panic to their huts.[13]

>The Champawat Tiger was found and killed by Jim Corbett after he followed the trail of blood the tigress left behind after killing her last victim, a 16-year-old girl.[13] Later examination of the tigress showed the upper and lower canine teeth on the right side of her mouth were broken, the upper one in half, the lower one right down to the bone. This permanent injury, Corbett claimed, "had prevented her from killing her natural prey, and had been the cause of her becoming a man-eater."

It doesn't need to be big to kill you. It's fast and agile with sharp claws and teeth, and it's going to go straight for your throat so you'd better make that kick count.

Kek

the Crocodiles in Resident Evil 5

>he thinks apex predators dont know exactly how to kill any other critter their size or smaller in 5 seconds.
They always go for the neck.

And you dont have enough flesh to stop them from reaching it.

I mean, you just needed 5 minutes to become a literal war god with your pickaxe, it wasn't hard to learn, you were just kind of overwhelmed at how to use it by being attacked by three dogs at the same time so it would detract from the atmosphere since the Tuurngait were not the strongest things or armed

There was also that crocodile that hunted anything that came near its lake, humans and wildlife alike, I think they even made a movie about it too

Plenty based on the ocean deep.
I'd wager that wild animals in any explored region aren't all that scary since we already know what they look like. Half of good horror is not knowing what to fear, so that's already gone.

>They always go for the neck.
Jaguars go for the head. They have the strongest jaws out of all the big cats, and their huge teeth are strong enough to pierce the skull. Boom, headbite.

by all accounts that crocodile was an asshole

I think it was in egypt or somewhere around there. It was a maneater, and it was known to fucking pursue people. asshole croc

condemned 2 bear chase is the closest thing I can think of and it was damn good

>Not many wild dinosaurs walking around anymore

>reddit spacing

>enemy pops out of confined space

Bitch, I've been posting here for over a decade. Go fuck yourself.

FUCKING NORMIES
