Why the fuck is this the one game they refuse to make a sequel for? Square Enix is basically the industry king of making endless sequels to generic shitgames that nobody asked for. That's understandable but still frustrating since I don't enjoy either of those series at all. I saw a friend playing Dream Drop Distance on the KH collection or whatever, and it honestly looked like it was initially supposed to be a 3D TWEWY game until they decided to rework it into a Kingdom Hearts title.

I'd be fine with a game focusing on a new cast. It's not like the Final Fantasy series doesn't do it with every game. Joshua would probably return in some way but I think the general concept of the Reaper's Game could be applied to different settings/cities. Or even just expand on the cool urban supernatural setting in some other way. Maybe the next game could follow one of the Reapers in another city.

Not at all. Just because they're not the most well known ones like the Mario games doesn't mean that people aren't aware of them. Everyone knows about TWEWY and Ghost Trick, they're both widely regarded as the best games on the DS. TWEWY was incredibly popular, especially around here. Sho was a huge meme before everyone decided it was better to hate everything or like things ironically.

The game sold 800000 copies on ds alone, and then more on iOS and Android.
It did NOT fly under the radar.
The ONLY reason there isn't a sequel is because Square Enix adopted their policy of only developing games for AAA series from now on, at least until they got their financials in order.
Hence why nearly all of their games in the last 10 years have Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, SaGa, or Mana in their names. Anything else is just licensed stuff that they published and helped develop, not actually developed themselves.
