Excuse is that I've been screwed by nostalgiafags before.
Sell me on playing an ancient game that isn't strictly 2d top-down retro pixelshit.
BEST RPG EVER CREATED IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND
For someone that has played plenty of rpgs but not Gothic, why is this the best what makes it so different and better from everything else?
uninstalled and refunded immediately after learning I couldn't make a character. Lol shit game.
Do the controls get any better because Gothic 1's is fucking horrid
Yes, I too love exploiting terrain and AI glitches to kill even a single mob for like 60% of the game. Truly a masterpiece.
I fucking love G1&2
Ultimate pleb filters
First off they're not horrid, they're great after you get used to them. Different doesn't mean bad. Secondly yes they're better in Gothic 2
>top-tier atmosphere and environments that feel appropriately alive and dangerous
>combat challenging with a variety of usable weapons, will make you feel like the weakling you are and an unstoppable machine as you develop
>variety of factions in both games to join and do quests with
>huge amounts of map area to freely explore and find cool shit
>very freeform levelup system that lets you assign points where you want
>get xp by smoking weed
How accurate is this?
fuck off with this german garbage
i like Gothic 2 but play more rpgs
I don't like open worlds at all. Next argument.
Someone's personal opinion which is shit btw.
>I don't like open worlds at all
Gothic 2 is the only game with open world done right.
>make graph
>claim it's Sup Forums consensus
Some high points and really shitty points
So do we ever have Gothic 2 threads when there aren't sales? You know like the EYEfags have theirs.
There's the Gothic 2 faggot threads that are just shitposting until it gets deleted if that counts
Literally fuck you and your thread. It should be about time this gets filtered as spam.

Tip for newfags
start reporting this faggot op
It's you again, hello
>no attaching to steam library
>no hours clocked on my steam profile
nah
A bit outdated (missing stuff like Divinity: Original Sin, Wasteland 2, recent Obsidian shit, Expeditions: Viking, Underrail, Shadowrun: Dragonfall & Hong Kong, Witcher 3, etc) but I'd say it's fairly accurate.
how can an unknown studio in Germany with a budget of two bratwursts create the greatest RPG in history?
they cant
What have you done in Khorinis today?
not very
but they did it the absolute madmen
that's stealing
which is illegal and immoral
shame on you
Gothic is the ultimate pleb filter, it actually challenges the player.
That's why most neo-Sup Forums 13 year olds hate it
put a couple of hours into this so far but should I be using the default controls?
ctrl lock on and the movement keys become the attack keys so you can only attack one guy and can't move at the same time, am I missing something?
Is there a modlist for this? Particularly the first game? Because it hasn't aged very well but I still really want to play it.
What makes Wake of the Ravager so much worse than Shattered Lands? Asking because I'm playing the latter at the moment and I'm enjoying it quite a lot.
>Diablo anything in god tier
Chart disregarded.
>put a couple of hours into this so far but should I be using the default controls?
I played with keyboard and mouse all the time and it was enjoyable.
And it takes a while to get good at combat. After you git gud it will be easy to hold and release LMB to attack, block, backstep, sidestep etc. It just takes practice
Is there a guide like this for Gothic 1? The game is literally unplayable right now, as in, the game doesn't even open up on my OS.
again, play more video games
I actually have both Gothic games sitting in my library. Should I play the first one or can I jump straight to second?
there aren't any mods for 1 really except for the patches that fix the game, there's DX11 mod for gothic 1 but from what i've heard it's buggy. DX11 mod for Gothic 2 however is perfectly fine.
But Gothic's ugly textures and crappy graphics are part of its charm to be honest
Already pirated it.
You should play the first one, there is absolutely no reason to skip it. But if you really want to start with a direct sequel, go ahead.
How's Gothic 3?
>Should I play the first one or can I jump straight to second?
You can jump straight to second and you won't be confused, BUT If you play 1 first you will benefit greatly from it. Especially because at one point in Gothic 2 you return to the place where Gothic 1 took place and you see how everything has changed which is really nice.
And also Gothic 1 is much easier than 2 so it would be a good tutorial for 2
Gothic 2 is much better than 1 tho and many people don't like 1 because there's lots of backtracking and fetch quests, but it's still a very good game.
And the controls are weird at first but after a while they become really enjoyable
basically to do anything you have to hold LMB and then press buttons
So to talk to NPCs, pick up items etc. you hold LMB and press W
Why does OP only mention Gothic 2 when i see most fans say that you should start with Gothic 1?
Isn't that a little disingenuous?
Because Gothic 2 is much better than 1
>Gothic 2 is the only game with open world done right.
but what does that actually mean though?
How are other open worlds not done right?
>combat challenging with a variety of usable weapons
How much variety in weapons are there? Can I use shields and heavy armor? Or Spears? And ranged weapons?
So gothic 1 is shit and should be skipped?
Most open worlds are empty and lazy with the devs just using a brush to create the landscape
In Gothic 2 however EVERY single inch of the map was handcrafted and everything placed on purpose, there's hidden stuff behind every rock, behind a tree, behind a waterfall etc which makes exploring the world so enjoyable and you see how much work went into it.
There's plenty of shit to discover everywhere you go.
And there's lots of environmental storytelling as well, for example you see a blood trail leading into a cave, you follow it and find corpses. Or you see a cave with lots of skeletons in it so that tells you that there must be a powerful enemy inside etc
After playing Gothic 2 you will never find an open world as good
gothic 2 is the best rpg ever made
>Gothic 1 is kinda mediocre but i play through it anyway
>Gothic 2 is amazing
thank god i trudged through 1 without giving up
It's not shit. It's still very good
But Gothic 2 is just much better
Gothic 1 is 7/10 if the backtracking bothers you, easy 9/10 if you don't mind the backtracking and fetch quests
while Gothic 2 is 11/10
yes skip that shit
Gothic 1 is 5/10, Gothic 2 is 11/10
The swamp camp in Gothic 1 was really cool tho
>Bought this game when it was new.
>It sucked.
Don't let OP fool you.
how long is 1?
nope and combats a mess too
>Gothic 1 is 7/10 if the backtracking bothers you, easy 9/10 if you don't mind the backtracking and fetch quests
actually, I find most of my favorite games involve backtracking, like RE1 and Metroid
Wake of the Ravager is buggier, has a worse story, and has worse graphics
Is Planescape worth $16?
it's really comfy
>Westernshit
>PC garbage
I don't think so, not even fro free
its a port made by SJWs just pirate it
So Gothic 2 is better than 1 and you don't need to have played 1 to enjoy 2?
How does Gothic 2's combat compare to the witcher 3?
Did they change something? That's the only way I can see it being bad
then you should give it a try, just remember that it gives a bad first impression because of the weird controls but after a while the controls become really enjoyable
And your character is supposed to swing his weapon like a retard at the beginning because he isn't trained, as you train the way you swing the sword changes as well
>How does a 2001 rpg's combat compare to a 2016 rpg's?
25-30 hours. could probably beat it in less time tho because i suck at videogames
>How does Gothic 2's combat compare to the witcher 3?
If you're used to TW3's combat then you will get raped hard in Gothic 2.
It's extremely unforgiving. But that's good, y ou die a lot in the beginning but you see yourself slowly become a badass who went from dying to everything to destroying everything in his path
>And your character is supposed to swing his weapon like a retard at the beginning because he isn't trained, as you train the way you swing the sword changes as well
I actually love that, good detail
Can you be a mage?
My autism only allows me to play as a mage
nah, just pray for them not to release an expansion like they did for BG1
of course
can you start with magic?
yes, but don't do it on your first playthrough. It's hard as fuck
You will give up.
ITS HARD AS FUCK
>How much variety in weapons are there?
Decent. Swords, hammers, axes, maces, clubs, flails, staffs, pikes, halberds, bows, crossbows.
However the catch is that they are mostly governed by the same few skills (one-handed, two-handed, bow, crossbow), meaning that their fighting style doesn't actually differ much, and in order to do optimal damage you should usually go with the weapon that deals the most. There are some situations where weapon type matters though, because, say, only a blunt weapon won't be resisted. But these are pretty rare.
With armor, the rule is that the heavier it is, the better, but since armor is tied to your faction and progression through the main quest, it's not something you have to think much about.
You'll start as a nothing, like in every true RPG.
So the answer is no. Your first task in-game is to actually seek a place to work.
I loved it back in the day but its aged poorly imo, i went back and tried to play it again and was sick of it before I even left Khorinis. It's mainly the movement/combat system that are iffy, the world, exploration and lore are still great.
Alright lads, I bought the Gothic pack earlier and now I'm gonna pull the trigger on this
Alright you've convinced me. Are there any essential bugfixes or mods I should install for Gothic 1?
seems good I guess
Get Arx libertatis for fatalis
>has a worse story
I mean, Shatterd Land's "you are an escaped slave, now fight the power with the revolution" is not exactly blowing my mind either, so...
But buggier doesn't sound good.
Thanks for the information, user. I'll think about it when I get there.
pretty sure you need to install systempack (google it) and I think I had to edit the .ini to get 1080p resolution
There's DX11 mod for Gothic 1 but I've never tried it, I've heard it's buggy tho
Brehs you might as well buy the Gothic bundle. You can't buy G1 separately, and while G3 is awful, it's not the worst game in the world. You'd only be paying $1.50 more than just G2.
G1 is def worth playing through.
...
...
GoG still needs patches and is fucked on widescreen regardless of chosen resolution without them.
If gothic 1 is good on its own, there's no reason to skip it and go straight to 2. Especially since it's a story heavy rpg. It's like starting with The Witcher 3, you could but you're missing out on important stories.
I want to get this game but im scared this is just some elaborate ruse
Just play 1 and see if you like it
I personally think it's amazing
youtube.com
Don't listen to this loser, my game is better
>wasted all the money of the sequels just to get a theme song from blind guardian
>oh no why did our games fail
wow so glad I installed L'hiver
never happened to me dunno senpai
