I know we shitpost a lot about Guild Wars 2, but let's forget about that for a moment. How about a Guild Wars 1 thread for old time's sake?

I know we shitpost a lot about Guild Wars 2, but let's forget about that for a moment...
I played this game a decade ago, how should I know all this shit? I reinstalled it a few weeks ago and the entire game was a barren wasteland.
all i remember was trying to make a dps ranger and it sucked, the best a ranger could do was stack a shit ton of conditions on enemies
You don't have to talk about all of these things, user. Just tell me about the fun times you had with it.
I don't remember any of that.
I remember those vista challenges and level design. I loved the level design, holy shit. I got lost in it all the time, wishing there were some sort of god mode so I could explore high-level areas without getting my shit pushed in.
Well I spent around 3,000 hours on my Necromancer, most of the time my main build was just some random blood magic shit I threw together. I made a 1v1 necro/warrior build to use against some friends though, touch spells combined with some hammer knockdown stuff, that was fun. Didn't really have a favorite hero,I don't think I ever messed around with them much because I usually played with friends and they had their hero's all decked out so we just used theirs instead.
Don't remember enough of the missions to be able to say I had a favorite. Jade Quarry was my shit for PvP. Favorite outpost was probably Fishermans Haven because I hung out there around the campfire with some friends on several occasions.
I pretty much always played the game on mute though so I don't remember any of the soundtrack.
kk lets shitpost about GW1 instead.
I don't care what WoW nostalgiafags say, but I was incredibly jealous about WoW getting group finders. Beats spending hours just idling at a hub looking for groups to clear that one obscure PvE mission. It was especially bad when Factions was released because the playerbase was thinned out.
And fuck them for not having auction houses. Also, they never had an official forum until GW2.
I remember the evolving meta of pvp, and badtouchrangers were big in 4v4 random for a long time. 4v4 random was the most fun kind of pvp in the game because you needed to be self sufficient and also be able to deal damage. I saw more build variety in one day than a year of gvg
There was embark beach for a party hub, but people just didn't use it. Heroes arguably made getting through missions a ton easier, but I do agree with you. An auction house would have also made finding stuff I need much easier, especially since there's not many people left now.
>Also, they never had an official forum until GW2.
Have you seen the official GW2 forums? The passive aggressiveness there is palpable. I wanted a place for official discussion at the time, but I've realised that official forums just aren't good places to actually discuss the games they're dedicated to.
My favourite memory is definitely holding the hall of heroes for hours when Nightfall came out and my guild was one of the first to find out that paragons are fucking broooooken. We only stopped holding it because I had to go afk for dinner. My Guild ridiculed me for ages about that.
I should reinstall this game and play through the entire campaign again one last time before the servers go down for good.
55 monk was the shit.
I've considered going through it again just for nostalgias sake, but all the people I used to play with have moved on,so it wouldn't be the same.
I never got into GvG or Heroes' Ascent, and I really wish that I did at the time. Now it's all empty.
It'll never be the same, but I'm not looking for the same, I'm looking for posterity. The game is barely hanging on at this point and I would be playing with NPC's for the most part. I doubt there is anyone making new characters and running PvE missions anymore.
GvG is the most fun I ever had in a PvP game, I can't believe they replaced it with fucking 5v5 capture the hill.
The Hall of Heroes had rotating game modes at some point and whenever the "capture the hill" mode came up everyone just killed each other because "capture the hill" is so boring and brainless.
There are still guilds around and stuff. Zaishen missions also means you'll be able to find some people to do stuff with depending on what's available on the day.
>8 districts
Didn't see that coming.
>gw2 still doesn't have GvG
nothing will ever replace the original guild wars
Surprising. Although I remember doing the Mad King simon says shit around Halloween back in the day in LA with like 100 districts, good times.
>favourite soundtrack
Don't know man, they were all pretty great. youtube.com
My favourite time was probably Under World II barrage+MM and when Factions freshly released. The deep as a trapper was pretty cool.
>they banned the guild I Swear She Was 18[GWENT] after they won too many hall of heroes matches
...
>Favourite build
Impagon on my Paragon and a custom version of Spirit Spam on my first account when I played Ritualist.
>Favourite hero
I fucking hated the introduction of heroes. The only reason I'm a little okay with it now is because the game is dead.

Spiteful Spirit. I can't remember a single situation I didn't find it useful.
>Favourite hero
Koss was my man. I know he was just a typical warrior but for whatever reason he always kicked ass with me. He became something of a good luck charm for me and my guildies
>Favourite soundtrack
presearing, duh
- 130HP Dervish
- Gwen
- Ruins of Surmia
- D'Alessio Arena
- Wtiman's Folly with Port Sledge
- Over the Shiverpeaks

It only lasted a while, but Contaigon Paragon, back when they changed some of the Paragon skills to inflict Armor Break on self. Was pretty neat until they just changed the skills to have built in -armor.
>you will never experience Guild Wars with full servers again
It was the best MMORPG
Just get 8 of your friends together and start fresh! It will be just like brand new.
Will the Sup Forums guild ever make a comeback?
Always tried to find something to replace it,but never could. Really was the best, and probably my favorite game of all time.
You obviously don't remember the guild "Inside the Vagina of Gaile[GREY]" Winning a bunch then getting banned.
>HoH call outs
The only thing I really hated about the game. What the fuck do I care if some group of random assholes won a PvP match?
same senpaitachi
no MMORPG will ever be this fun
I thought it was kind of cool when it was used to compete for the favour of the gods between the European and American districts.
>Favourite build
I really loved playing SS Rit and some of the more popular Mesmer builds. I also loved playing as Dervish (don't remember my build), Ele, and Assassin.
>Favourite hero
Kahmu, just based on design. Don't really remember having a favorite.
>Favourite mission
Probably one of the Prophecies or Nightfall missions. One that stands out is when you're escorting Prince Rurik over the Shiverpeaks and all of the endgame stuff in Nightfall with Kormir and stuff. Nightfall in general was my favorite campaign, it just had a really cool setting and story.
>Favourite PvP map
Any AB map. Best mode.
>Favourite area
Obviously pre-Searing is everyone's favorite, but I loved a lot of EotN areas too, the Charr areas were comfy and I loved the snow aesthetic. Shing Jea Island and the Jade Sea (though I'm not a filthy Suxon).
>Favourite soundtrack

I'm kind of sad though, because when I was playing the game, I really didn't appreciate the music. I used to turn it off sometimes. But now when I listen to it I adore it and get hit with massive waves of nostalgia. One of Jeremy Soule's best works.
Overall one of my favorite games of all time. RIP my lost love, my lost youth, that thing that I've lost and shan't regain. You were too good for this world, but not even GW2 can tarnish your legacy.
