Horizon could use much better exploration in the same way BOTW had it, and i mean in the sense that yes, you are exploring an open world, but what you're really exploring is how that world interacts with itself and.. well, basically, you explore how to explore in BOTW. Whereas I felt the combat in Horizon:ZD is endlessly entertaining. Every single time I boot the game up something insane happens to me while I'm minding my own business galloping to check points or something. The variety of monsters is awesome, the combat feels good at range and melee, upgrades are fun to get, etc. I think if we got a sequel to either that emulated the other, we'd have a near perfect game.

Played BOTW first, loved it. Playing Horizon now. Horizon is definitely great, I am having a blast, but it isn't as good as zelda.

HZD, judging from the gameplay and story videos I've seen, appears to be hot garbage. A friend is insisting on me to play it though, so I might give it a shot. I hope the main story isn't that long so that if it really is bad then I don't have to put up with it for too long.

And you can't influence the world either, none of your choices have any impact outside of the immediate quest.
Xenoblade X doesn't have fun or well-written characters either, so don't try to use that argument.
And even the "good" sidequests just amount to fetching items or killing things. You just get to watch a cutscene with shitty voice acting and obnoxious characters after you finish it.

Every single quest in every single video game boils down to either a fetch quest, a "kill 20 monsters" quest, an escort mission, or some combination of the above. Prove me wrong.

I disagree, to me 64's controls were rather stiff for me after playing Sunshine, so I wouldn't call it a masterpiece, even though I know it's probably the most loved one here.

that's a gross oversimplification of why people hate Ubisoft open-world games - they lack any interesting locales or terrain, their missions rarely have any depth or even substance to them at all, and they are extremely repetitive - moreso than other open world games.

I didn't and wasn't planning to, the characters in XCX mostly suck, the ones that don't are only mediocre as well.

same can be said of any game, it's nearly impossible to have a task that isn't ultimately fetching something or killing something - that's why the context and execution of it is the important part, rather than the objective itself. But even then, not all quests are fetch/kill missions in XCX: some missions require you to talk to various characters in order to resolve a political problem, for example.
