What percentage of your drive to play video games is an attempt to climb the online social structure and gain approval from strangers?

Zero. I have a Steam account and a bunch of games and I have no friends and no desire to interact with the community. Some people do, I get that, cool. But I just like to play my games.

I got a blank profile and free PSN avatar. Trophies aren't hidden but I got it set so nobody can find me. I 100% games, but I don't use guides. I don't peek at hidden achievements. Start on the highest setting, but that's how I chill.

I think achievement whores are a joke.

It's either:

It's pretty much why I play multiplayer games. I don't have any friends and my ego/sense of confidence has been utterly demolished over the years, so I do what I can to get approval from strangers. I'm absolute shit at Overwatch (can't aim, get my ass kicked 1v1, etc), but I'm great at Mercy and have spent 100+ hours as her on quickplay exclusively so I could get commendations/praise from my teammates. If they fuck/don't commend me, I tell them off then leave the match. I also used LMAOBox for years in TF2 on a separate account to make people think I was great at the game. It was incredibly satisfying and I got some items out of it, so there's that.

I play videogames first to enjoy them and feel good about myself for beating them.
If other people say my achievements are nice and I am "cool", good. If not, don't care.
