I'm going to be honest with you, the idea of playing this game with online randoms has never even once crossed my mind. I'm pretty sure RA2 is the only RTS game I ever played with randoms way back in the dial-up days so it probably gave me some kind of PTSD. It has a 15k 24 hour concurrent players peak, though, and the concurrent players chart looks pretty healthy. I don't have it installed right now so I can't check the lobbies, but I'd say online looks pretty damn alive on steam:

My childhood almost died at that time. Hopefully the HD version is great and with the latest expansion it's smooth as fuck.
