Is this gamepad/controller any good?

Is this gamepad/controller any good?

Yes it's the best one on the market

It's crap compared to the others

There's a reason xbone is the mainstream and xbox 360 used to be on pc

The build quality is garbage. The layout is generally good, but symmetrical sticks fucking sucks.

seconded best controller since the GCN

It's definitely the best PlayStation controller ever made, but the best controllers in general are Xbox controllers.

>inb4 shill
You can argue over which Corporate dick taste better all day long, but I have a PS4 and an Xbone and the Xbone controller just fits in your hand like a glove.

PS4 has the better exclusives. Just imagine playing those games with the superior Xbox controller. One can only dream.

It would be good if it wasn't so prone to getting stuck triggers and broken rubber on the sticks

Huge improvement over PS3's pad. DS3 felt really cheap.

It's fantastic, people who say it's bad don't actually own one.

Xbox 360 > Ps4 > Xbox1
The xb1 controller is to big and bulky, idk why they changed it

i dont like it. i wish the sticks were a little further up, the touchpad is dumb and the battery is shit

doesnt make much difference though, its just a controller, one to the next isn't going to make you better.

How do you want your battery life senpai?

I like it more than the xbone controller.

it's for manlets

>DS4 is the biggest controller this gen
>for manlets
I see you've never touched one

It's too small even for my tiny girl hands, what are you talking about. Although controllers in general are shit compared to handhelds where there's a whole screen between the sides.

Design wise it's great.

Build quality on the other hand..

>tiny girl (male) hands

>Although controllers in general are shit compared to handhelds
Ok you must be fucked in the head. Have fun with no palm rest, handcramps and shitty analog-to-face buttons positioning

But going back to reality for a second:
>It's too small even for my tiny girl hands, what are you talking about
I'm talking about just that. DS4 is the biggest controller this gen (WiiU's pad aside, I guess). If it's too small for your hands then the both the Xbone controller and Joycon pad configuration feel even worse.
I'm in no way saying it's a biggest controller ever (that would go for Dreamcast's, Original Xbox's Duke or Saturn's 3D controller) just that it's the biggest THIS generation

>Although controllers in general are shit compared to handhelds

hahaha what?

I like it. Touchpad's fucking gay, though.

Do they still sell the first model of the ds4? I really feel like it had better build quality than the new model they made with the Pro. New one feels cheaper and I hate that light stripe they added on the touchpad as if anyone gave a shit about the light to begin with.

Why? It's a comfy big button at it's "worst". Don't see how that's a bad thing

When it's used to its full extent It's very handy for things like wheel menus, like EDF4.1's chat functions (pic related)

>I really feel like it had better build quality than the new model
My first one I got with my launch system broke after one week of playing Destiny. And I handle my controllers with care.

i bought it for my PC works great

Got mine since launch too, still works flawlessly.
A friend of mine got a PS4 on Destiny's release and went through 3 controllers by now.

It's breaking new ground for sony since it's an actually usable controller but basically the entire centre section is fucked. The touchpad is exclusively used for what would be mapped to select on any other playstation so it's essentially just a giant version of one button that squishes the other button to a tiny and out of the way place. And you better remember that fucking "OPTIONS" means start or you're going to hit share and die while the system hangs on loading the UI to set up your fucking social media accounts. And let's not ignore the fact that they put a light on the one part of the controller that you WON'T FUCKING SEE IT

>handcramps
>needing hand-rests
Do you have arthritis or something

The best controller in the Market is the switch pro

Two words
HD Rumble

0) Switch Pro
1) XBONE
2) DS4
3) X360

My Triangle and Circle buttons are getting stuck and uncomfortable to press after not even 5 months of use. Classic Sony hardware quality.

V1 was trash the current ds4 v2 is pretty neat.

It feels like cheap shit plastic in my hands and I've had a trigger break and a brand new camo controller x button just stopped working. I feel like xbox makes higher quality controllers for sure.

Inb4 I'm a retard that holds it too hard. Why do my 360 controllers last years?

xinput configuration

>Breaks easily
>No third party controllers because of the fucking touch pad
No wonder Madcatz died.

Funnily enough I owned 3 x360 controllers and two of them I broke the triggers, while I owned every dualshock and they all still work

user I'm sorry but the 360 controller is absolute ass compared to the PS4, Xb1, and ps3. Worst dpad ever.

is the PS4 controller good for retro 2D SNES sidescrollers via emulation on PC?

No the Dpad is pretty garbage compared to the previous Playstation ones.

Yeah it has a great dpad

That's interesting but I can snap a ps4 controller in half with little effort. Not so much with xbox controllers

Also you probably put a lot more stress on your 360 triggers playan all them shootan games

learn to wash your damn hands and not eat while gaming

>Symmetrical sticks
>Mushy Dpad
>Touchpad
>Light glaring off your tv
>Awful triggers

I'm not hardcore DS4 user, but I enjoy it. One problem is really bad stickers which rubber tears so easily. At least you can get extra protection for them from any gamepad/ console games store

Sure bud.

It's great if you have the hands of a 5-year-old girl. That is, it's great if you're a Jap. Anyone with man hands will start cramping 10 minutes in.

The analog sticks are in the correct position, so yes.

>Symmetrical sticks
ikr who actually has symmetrical hands

It's shit for PC. There's input lag no matter what because there's no native support on Windows so you have to go through a input wrapper.

the only reason is xinput

I just ordered a PS4, and it's my first Sony console. I'm a little concerned about the controller. I've used PS controllers at my friends' houses before and have always struggled with them, finding them very uncomfortable compared to Xbox controllers. Hopefully I figure it out with practice.

Which also works with Dual Shock 3

(you)

I prefer 360 controller just because pretty much any PC game has built in support for it and has the buttons on the interface.

If you can't get used to it within an hour, I'm afraid you suffer from crippling retardation.

>Hopefully I figure it out with practice
Yeah it's real tricky, you gotta wrap your hands around the grips and put your thumbs on the sticks/buttons, might take you a few attempts to get right

the only difference is usb conectivity

not natively

I just mean it doesn't feel right and it affects my coordination in games.

it's just muscle memory, the more you use it the more you get used to it.

It's ok. Not as good as the wiiu or switch pro and has a ridiculously low battery life but it does the job.

never had this type of problem going back to the fucking ps2/GC era, DS4 is just shit.

Joystick placement isn't ideal
I dislike how flushed the start and select buttons are.
Battery life is annoyingly short.

I wish there was a 3rd party controller that addressed this.

because you were younger and your body generated less natural oils

now you're a gross adult

>select button
What did he mean by this? Have you ever used a PS4 controller?

The best PS controller to date, not counting controller options present on handhelds.
If you want a controller for PC or something else there are better options like the Xbone controller or the Wii U and Switch Pro controllers.

fine the "share" button it's the same shit in my view

Yup. It's one of the best video game controllers ever made, along with the Xbox 360 controller, the GameCube controller, and the DualShock 2 controller.

You do know that the primary control scheme is using a stick and facebuttons, not two sticks at the same time. Playing with a symmetrical controller means your hands will be in an asymmetrical position most of the time.

The controler is good for games like FPS and Dark Souls which use the triggers as primary buttons as oposed to the face buttons, and even then I would argue that the Wii U pro is better since it has both sticks up, making it much more comfortable since it leaves your hands in a more neutral position.

>and the DualShock 2 controller
And you fucked up...

>You do know that the primary control scheme is using a stick and facebuttons
Unless you're playing an FPS. Good thing there are no popular FPS games on console huh user

You're really fucking dumb. Did you even read what the guy said?

I said that though... Still, if all you play are FPS that's fine, but then there's something called "other genres" might be a foreign concept to you, though, and those which make up about the rest of the gaming industry usually (USUALLY) benefit from an asymmetrical scheme.

>FPS
>Controller
Dude, don't go that way. You've already proven that you're dumb enough to post without even reading everything and now you're digging a deeper hole for yourself

Isn't PS4 gamepad compatible with Steam?

not with that garbage battery life and light bar, no.

>Which controller is the best for all games? Let's pick this one that is suitable for only one type of them
GENIUS

You shitposted so hard you even made a fool of yourself in the post.

The Dual Shock has gone downhill generation after generation.

Xbone is by far the best and that's pretty hard to debate.

If you're looking for one for PC pic related is unironically your best bet.

It's less comfy than the ps3 controller, and works like shit on pc. Micro USB cables were also a fucking mistake. And buying the controller itself doesn't come with a fucking cable.

Controller Status: It's alright

I have a question about PC controllers. with the 360 controler out of production what is the best wired controler for the PC? wirless are shit because the USB port on the controler always wares out.

I just bought one of these last night because it was on sale

Figure for $15 anything's worth a shot

Does it have any major issues? Battery life? Latency? Do I need a wireless receiver for my PC?

PS3 controllers imo, though i'm yet to try the xboner

>Battery life?
Weeks of constant use on two AA's, it's insane
>Latency?
It works anywhere in my bedroom or my living room and they're both pretty normal sized
>Do I need a wireless receiver for my PC?
It comes with the dongle, takes up on USB slot, never had an issue with it.

>Does it have any major issues?
Depends on who you ask. In my opinion the biggest downside of the controller in my opinion is that it can't fully replace your normal controller because a few genre's like anything 2d platforming (or anything else that requires a dpad for movement), twinstick, and fighting games (not the biggest deal since you can't really play competitively on a normal controller) have a bit of trouble on the SC.
But in most cases it genuinely improves games played on a controller and is a viable alternative for a lot of PC games (I ranked pretty well in TF2 playing with the Sup Forums party van earlier today, it's also amazing for FTL or RPGS).

there is literally no differences between the two fucking retard

For PC? It's crap because all the Xinput wrappers for it will have a shitfit if you have Steam open
Get a new Xbone controller. It has Bluetooth and supporta Xinput natively so it's super smooth

They suffer the same issue as the other two. the USB port wears out after maybe a year of use. i've had it happen to 2 controlers so far. I'm so sick of the wireless meme

ps3 is fucking terrible tho, that mushy dpad and shitty triggers

Good, good. Really just bought it (+steam link) for some comfy couch rpgs, since my 360 controller is starting to wear out a bit

it may be expensive, but it's the best controller out there

Damn, maybe i'm just lucky. I bought both my ps3 controllers used, and had them for years now, but the L3 button on both are going out which forced me to get a brand new ps4 controller.

What are you talking about? Steam functionality for the center pad has numerous zones. Left side is LMB, right side is RMB, entire pad is mouse tracking, etc. Its basically the 360 with an entire suite of mouse functionality. I will never go back to the Xbox controller when playing in Steam.

Plus it's comfy as fuck.

I had trouble with the Steam Link but I love my controller.

Nononononononoononononononono
No
Why would you ever tell anyone this?

Xbox one controller is the best available right now. One Elite is god tier if you can afford it.

Not true, i use SCPTool and have literaly no problem at all.

XB1>PS4>X360

well, keep in mind I was useing them as wired controlers so they constantaly had a USB cord in them. a blutooth adaptor for PC would fix this.. but i'd much rather have wired full stop. it's defo something to keep in mind even with the ps4 controler.

>1000-150 dollars for a not totally shit dpad and 4 backpaddles and some metal shoved into it to give it a ""luxury"" weight
Literally beats tier
vs
>35-55 for two backpaddles, the trackpads, easily the most versatile method of input ever added to a controller, (Camera movement, character movement, dpad, 4 face buttons, up to 16 buttons, up to 20 buttons in a radial menu, several different settings for stick input, among other things), gyro control, every button is completely customizable including stuff like multiple inputs on one button, making them staggered, etc, haptic feedback to make sure you can know where you finger is on the trackpads+all the other buttons,

Steam controller blows Beats by Microsoft out of the water. It's literally no contest. The literal only upside to the Elite is that it has two backpaddles on each side.

>Steam Controller

lol
