A Mario game being casual!?
I'm shocked, shocked

I'm quite happy about this.
You lose your money instead, so there's greater incentive not to die, since lives are incredibly easy to horde in other Mario games.

Tell me again how Mario is better than Crash, Nintenkids

These games throw lives at you. This makes no difference.

>mario has fallen to the souls meme

...

>Game overs are a failure of the game designer.

Wow a Mario game being easy as fuck? Color me surprised

When was the last time you even got a game over in a Mario Game?

Name the last game you played with a Game Over screen.

>oh user why aren't you playing superior Japanese games?
See what you cucks encourage?

Game Overs are a dumb remnant from the arcade era, they should have been removed decades ago.

Lives are an antiquated notion from the days of the quarter guzzling house of mouse.

You can't game over in any Xenoblade game either, but they can be pretty brutal at times.

Game over's are irrelevant if a game has a save feature. They are merely an inconvenience at best.

because u wouldnt even mention crash in the last 10 years if not for the remake

Good. I think majority of Sup Forums besides the trolls can agree that game overs in a Mario game (or any platformer) are an archaeic design flaw.

Glad Nintendo did it right this is shaping to be the best nintendo mario yet

I was pretty hyped but the more I see of this game the less I care.
I can't say I'm shocked about this though. Their games are all about accessability these days and that's not a bad thing.
As long as they have difficult areas or challenges in the game for advance players everything is fine. I just hope that level to level is more exciting than what they've shown so far. The trailers all look weird and crazy but the gameplay in the desert was super slow and boring.

Miku project Mirai

>Super Mario Odyssey is the Dark Souls of Crash Bandicoot

You'd prefer that the game send you back to the menu screen, requiring you to go back to level selection and replay the part you already played through, with all the menu transitions and loading screens in between? Rather than simply be penalized a reasonable, numerable amount on the spot?

Do you like having a game waste your time, user?

Be honest, have you ever seen a game over screen in a 3D Mario game since you were a child?
The only time I can think of where this would even be a possibility is the FLUDD-less stages in Super Mario Sunshine, but they're fucking useless there because all a game-over means is that you get to do a bunch of tedious, easy bullshit to get back to the sort of challenging thing

Breath of the Wild

Game overs are a holdover from the arcade days. They serve no purpose now.

Kirby's Epic Yarn

Dark Souls is casual shit confirmed

>The game doesn't inconvenience you by taking you to the title screen

I've never dropped a game so fucking hard.

>Mario Odyssey
>Lose ten of the billions of coins you've collected when you die.

>Every other Mario
>Lose one of the billions of lives you've collected when you die.

I don't see much of a difference.

>Die in a game
>Restart at your last checkpoint or start of the level
>Get a game over
>Restart at your last checkpoint or start of the level after an unnecessary cinematic and being booted to the title screen

What's the point exactly?

But does it have some kind of super bubble that takes me to the moonie if I die a couple times in a level?

wait but what happen if you also lose all your coins? from smo's twitter, a life is 10 coins

It's no Crash Bandicoot.

>Crash

>you lose your money instead

you sure do.

Mario is baby shit, I thought we knew this?

You retards get mad over anything

Whats so important about game overs? Its just a menu screen before you get back into the actual game.

Game overs don't mean anything these days since there's save points.

That's rich coming from a fan of a company that has been relying on remakes and remasters and rereleases since the Gamecube era. Their new games don't quite attract the audiences and bring the big bux, do they?

Nsane trilogy

>Dark Souls didn't have game overs.
>Sup Forums circlejerked it for years.

starts you over at 999999 coins

Rayman Origins doesn't have a life or game over system and it's one of the best platformers of the modern age. We've already well established this doesn't have any effect on the games quality negatively, it can even make a game better.

This is a good decision.

Prince of Persia was ahead of its time.

Call me when you finish Champion's Road, the Perfect Run, the Impossible Pack and NSMBU's Challenges, you dirty casual.

I have a fix for this. Write "GAME OVER :(" on a piece of card, and every few deaths hold it in front of the TV and stare at it for a few seconds before you restart, just like you would have done if it had a Game Over screen except with less menu loading.

Under rated post.

games have being doing shit like that since before the souls games you autistic fuck

Mario has always been casual you fucking retard

There wasn't one in SM64 either.

Game Overs haven't meant a single thing since the N64.
There's literally no reason to use them in any game nowadays. Not even lives. They're useless and arbitrary, they don't even punish the players.
It's just a screen that pops up to say "Hey! Remember when dying in games meant something!?"

Over rated post.

Shantae Half-Genie Hero (but only on hardcore cuz that game is easy as fuck otherwise)

"This is the dark souls of bing bing wahoo!" - ign

oh cool nintendo fans confirmed for 12 year old reddit browsing trump retards

Aptly rated post

There was but it was fucking pointless because it just booted you back to the front of the castle so you waste more time getting back to the level.

>Hasn't actually played any NES/SNES Mario games

Some levels on SMB3 are hard as fuck you little twerp.

Then what happens when you run out of coins?

Dark souls doesn't have game overs either and people still say it's le hardcore game xd.

Literally baby tier compared to actual platformers

fun is better than difficulty and Trump is the World Leader so show him some fucking respect.

Must have a reason why they do this
But / v / always retarded as always

It was fucking difficult to get a game over in Galaxy if you didn't try hard enough

Do people think this is a bad thing?

Lives are a horribly outdated game mechanic, thank fuck games are starting to get rid of that system

but user I need my arbitrary lives system so I can feel like I accomplished something. I never finished the new rayman games because of this

actual game over screens haven't been seen in anything that isn't "retro" in ages, multiple lives too.

shovel knight didn't even have it

>bing bing wahoo!
when will this meme die.

You get so many lives in Mario games these days that game overs are basically pointless. Literally the only ones complaining about the sir people who haven't played a Mario game since the SNES era, and even then lives were handed out like candy.

You haven't even played them, but ok, I'll bite. Enlighten me.

if you weren't brain dead you wouldn't get a game over in a mario game in the first place

>thinks it'll ever die
YIPPEEE! AH HA HA!!!!

Kirby's Epic Yarn did this 7 years ago

All they mean is they're using the checkpoint system like everyone already knew. If you die you get sent back to the checkpoint and you don't keep your progress made.

Fucking roasted nintenqueers

>That's rich coming from a fan of a company that has been relying on remakes and remasters and rereleases since the Gamecube era
So Sony?

Those 12 years old have beaten you ass. Badly.

Good lord I knew this place was full of casuals, but everything about your post is frightening.

With Charles Martinet

64 and Sunshine have game overs. Why Odyssey cant get the same mechanic?

>He actually thinks lives are a good mechanic when every game autosaves a million fucking times

Game Overs didn't matter jack shit in Super Mario 64 too since lives were literally useless.

If you die you got kicked out of the painting, if you got got a game over nothing changed since you could save anytime.
You basically had infinite lives.

Game Overs in SM64 literally do nothing besides make you run back to the level... why would you possibly want that?

>Why Odyssey cant get

Shut the fuck up you stupid beaner.

I'm fine with it, since i have never got game over-screen in Mario game.

When's the last time you saw the game over screen in a Mario game, Anons?

youtube.com/watch?v=uECoK93D5uo

kek

what point was there to gameovers anyway? you'd just restart with a new batch of 1ups and continue where you were

Route C of NieR: Automata

>Getting a Game Over in a Mario game

I haven't played any platformer mario games past sunshine besides nsmb for wii so I'm very uninformed on these things

YOU DIED is the same as GAME OVER

There is actually one place lives matter in 64, during the Bowser stages.
The pipe right before you fight Bowser counts as that game's only checkpoint.

Getting thrown out of the world in sunshine and 64 always broke the flow, but I still think there should be some punishment

lul whatever you say faggot

Old games were pretty short so a cheap way to make people keep playing the same game was kicking them to the start of it with game overs.
Doesn't matter if you played perfectly but there's just that one bit you can't pass through, play the game again.

Arcades of course love this system since you could just buy a new credit instead of starting from scratch

Every 3D Mario game

Normal death: go back to checkpoint
Game over death: go back to start of level

No, it's not. You don't go back to the title screen.
