A small console with no buttons looks sleek, a big console with no buttons just looks like a waste of space from the consumer's perspective. It's an established design philosophy. Look at the Ouya and Steam Link for reference.

Now this has potential to be scam of the decade. Some no name holding company has hold of Atari. Doing nothing but dropping hints, trying to build up hype for a long dead company and a product that will have an impossible time competing. Unless all they're doing is releasing a good looking retro console that plays their catalog of games. If they still even hold the rights to their games.

The bottom box is the standard Flashback 8, the top is a Flashback 8 Deluxe. The deluxe model is 4k capable, and also has a more premium, woodgrain look, and will obviously sell at a higher pricetag.
On top of the higher game count, the Flashback 8 is built with a wifi adapter and allows online multiplayer. The "Atari network" also allows independent developers to release their own projects built for the console.
Controllers are wireless paddles: two top buttons (action 1, action 2), four side buttons (start, select, home, turbo)
