It's fun
Call of Chernobyl is what STALKER should've been from the beginning.
liked shadow of Chernobyl
absolutely loved clear sky
never finished call of pripyat
7/10 series
>Great atmosphere
>passable gameplay
7/10
9/10 if you like the setting that much
over-rated , one of ''''''''those'''''''' games that Sup Forums likes to meme a lot about but it's ultimately mediocre with much better alternatives existing out there
Fallout 3 and New Vegas are both far better games.
SoC was great
CS was decent enough
CoP was a bit boring, but okay.
Nothing will ever top SoC's atmosphere.
that's some stale ass bait
It's true though.
>tfw doing a bunch of mission for the barkeep, the guy at the beginning village
>wait a minute, these are radiant quests!
Thanks Tod-... I mean Ivan.
I don't think the games are similar enough to warrant a comparision.
Both are good, except Fallout 3 which is irredeemable trash but I think they have two different experiences to offer, which makes them inherently dissimilar.
love all of them.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R was a fantastic game when it first came out (after it was patched to a stable state). Admittedly, it has developed a cult following over the years which may have been blown out of proportion and could potentially leave you dissapointed if you play it for the first time today. But, if you bought it when it was originally released, then you rightfully have fond memories of it and will hold it in high regard.
Meant for:
I'm thinking that Master difficulty does not make you deal more damage or make the enemies weaker in any other way.
It's a good game, with a great atmosphere.
I don't know why /k/ likes it so much for it's gunplay which is one of it's worst aspects and is a far cry from being 'realistic' which gets repeated like some sort of mantra despite being barely more realistic than Battlefield.
Rhetorical question, or just new to Sup Forums?
Sup Forums in general has had a HUGE boner for STALKER, for a literal decade now. And for a good reason, as they are damn good, super atmospheric and engaging games. There really isn't much competition in their style.
Now, if there's rookies thinking about starting this great trilogy, Consult this Starting Guide,
then see the /vg/'s huge Stalker General for more tips and links: Play in the release order. Start with no mods - only latest patch, OR get the full "Starter Pack" first; these contain bug-fixers and light visual mods that can help performance as well.
Leave big overhauls for later playthrougs. Avoid the "Complete" -mods. Always play on MASTER difficulty for best realism and atmosphere, and disable crosshair.
Don't give up in the beginning! The starting gear sucks ass and first area can be a bit boring.
>Call of Chernobyl is what STALKER should've been from the beginning.
...an empty, goal-less sandbox? Yeah, nah.
If you appreciate the setting it's amazing.
If you don't, go play Fallout or something, faggot.
A masterpiece.
Also the labs with the flying shit really spooked me.
As opposed to... an empty sandbox where the goal is to find people/things you were given no reason at any point in time to care about?
CoC tosses out the fluff and leaves you to get stalkan.
Maybe New Vegas only, but I've yet to see an atmosphere that equals that of STALKER
Only played the first game, it's good for the most part. Stealth is impossible (in b4 git gud) which kinda sucks. And the ending (CNPP) is utter trash
God tier if you are down with the Slavic worldview.
lost alpha was nice
I love the first game only because I haven't played the others, but I also love the book Roadside Picnic and the Tarkovsky film Stalker.
Stalker as a general media IP is my shit.
I just saw the movie a few days ago and while it may come off as pretentious to some I enjoyed the atmosphere and the characters
My alltime favourite game trilogy.
Currently have around 3000 hours combined in all three games.
I own all of them on steam but play on my GoG version, Call of Chernobyl or original boxed.
I know everything there is to know about the game and can't wait for the upcoming Ray Of Hope which is a modificafion that introduces multiplayer in otherwise singleplayer STALKER games. Just hoping that i could partner up with a few of irl friends and explore the zone remade.
Game has an incredibly niche community that likes this incredibly specific gameplay, no game comes close to being as fun as STALKER for me at least. Closest i could find is Arma 2 and even that bored me pretty quickly.
Bolg to death.
Agreed. there simply isn't any other movie like it, and Stalker, Writer, and Professor are all interesting foils.
Fallout 3 and NV are shit because they of the gameplay. The guns are boring, weak and everything is a level-scaling hunk of pure meat that takes one million shots to kill.
Any of you guys thinking of going out and doing the Stalker Challenge?
Did someone say Cheeki Breeki?
Maybe
SoC's still my absolute favorite game in the trilogy, even after 10 years. It has the best story, best missions, best atmosphere, and most balanced challenge. Sure its gameplay's tad more simple and straightforward than the sequels, but I don't find that to be a "flaw" exactly.
In fact, CS and CoP feel a tad more "cartoony" in comparison.
youtube.com
In case anyone doesn't know about this. Best quality version of the film
Why do people say you have to like the Slavic setting to enjoy the game?
I really hate it yet I still love Stalker soc and consider it one of my favorites video games.
>Best quality version of the film
Sure, on YouTube. But watching a movie like this on a streaming service is like eating shit when there's a chocolate bar within arm's reach.
The game is about building your hopes until you shit gets slapped viciously and without warning from the hideous, the supernatural, or your fellow man. You never truly break out of that cycle, you just do a little bit better every time (until you completely break the game, but that's a different issue).
If you like Slavic literature (particularly Gogol, Pushkin, or Dostoevsky), films, or most any other cultural work you're going to like STALKER because it's essentially more of that with a smattering of science fiction and some gun fetishism. The issue is, Slavic settings and works are particularly divisive. You usually love them or despise them, and people assume STALKER will get the same reception.
played the games a ton, now I just ironman-randomstart CoC and will continue to do so until I beat the story without dying.
>Maybe New Vegas only
It's absolute garbage without mods. Don't even think about playing until you're prepared to install some mods.
>It's absolute garbage without mods
You sir, are absolutely wrong.
Please look up the closest, high cliff, and jump off it.
Your opinion is wrong.
> Finish the lab X-i dont fucking even care anymore mission
> Get a new mission.
> Go to another lab
> mfw
Not him but I bought the game during the sale. Is it better to start vanilla or with the Complete 2009 mod?
vanilla
Vanilla, Complete makes the game way too easy.
Get ZRP (Zone Reclamation Patch), it's pretty much an unofficial patch. Then play the game stock.
Apples to oranges, user.
Apples to oranges.
The one trait both stalker and fallout share is that both get wildly better with the addition of the right mods.
Looks cool.
What are some locations to do it near?
Master doesn't seem all that hard honestly, it's not like you'd really need the ammo anyway.
Do you post online for E-Peen?
>friend recommends complete mod
>watch the mandalore review and he says ZRP is good and complete is a meme
So which is it? I thought complete was the definitive experience?
Complete is casual bullshit.
ZRP is what stalker should have came out the box with.
Hey, I'm starting out this game soon, as soon as I finish dishonored 2, what difficulty should I start as, normal? or should I go harder? heard that harder difficulty just increases weapon damage for both me and the enemies, if that's the case I might play it on hard.
Go master difficulty.
It's the best way to play.
Gunfights are short and brutal on higher difficulties as due to what you mentioned.
Enemies actually get more bullet spongy on lower difficulties.
